The recent idea of cloning has stirred up a lot of debates and conflicts between different people. These debates arise because there are advantages and disadvantages to the idea of cloning. What I will do is look at some of these "pros" and "cons" of cloning.

The first group of advantages is medical - first I will look at the fact that by copying an individual it can provide a donor of bone marrow for transplants. The clone could be made up with the proper makeup necessary in order to have a successful transplant. This would be an advantage because having 'natural' children can't guarantee a match. Another pro of cloning is that it can be done for infertile couples, or in situations where one parent has a genetic disease that can be passed on. Also the knowledge of cloning can lead to further development of new medicines for humans/ animals. Finally, by cloning we can eliminate certain defects/diseases, for example like diabetes.

Along with medical advantages there are emotional advantages to parents who have lost a child and now can clone a new one.

Another pro would be economic - both to the people it provides jobs to and also that scientists would be able to use cloning for a mass production of animals like cows for example to produce more products like beef, cheese and milk. So they wouldn't have to use as much natural animals. The final pro would have to be that we could prevent the extinctions of certain animals.

Order custom research paper on Pros + Cons of Cloning

While there are quite a bit of advantages to cloning there is an immense number of disadvantages. First we have to look at the fact that it took 77 attempts to clone Dolly the sheep, so this shows us that we are not yet ready.

There are ethical and moral problems such as we are violating animals and humans by making them specimens. People see this as inhumane, and this is what cloning relies on. The question seems to be whether or not we should be playing G-d and tampering with nature.

Cloning is a very expensive process; there will be a lot of bribing going on, for example the rich will bribe scientists to make the 'perfect' child. People might turn against each other and it will be bad for the society. This would be the case because it might lead for there to be a 'superior' race.

The main con is that there are two copies that would exist. The difference is that one would be natural and the other wouldn't be the real thing. It wouldn't be your very own that was naturally created the way it was meant to be - unique.

A major con would also be the question that is what would happen to the clones that 'go wrong'? Do they simply destroy them, are they not alive?

The final con is that if we can advance to such things as cloning, the world has more advancement. This advancement, I think, is very bad for us. While new technologies help us in many ways, it also slowly makes things worse for us in the future.

I can sum up this assignment by saying that with every advancement, where there are advantages, you will always find the negative side.

When terrorists attacked the world trade center, it changed Americans into vengeful people. People wanting nothing more then revenge for terrorists horrible hate crimes. And this was an event that won't be quickly forgotten because it is something that changed peoples though and ideas about others different from them. And this related to the novel, "Night" in that Elizer's life changed greatly after his experience in that he's lived a life of many lifetimes, in that he's seen things that people's mind were not meant to see. And some of these events drove individuals insane in that their minds could comprehend what was going on. Elizer has also lost all innocence through his experiences, in that as soon as he arrived at the death camp he had to immediately stop acting like a helpless child and more like a strong individual. But how did Elizer change and was it a good or a bad change.

Elizer grew up in a community where religion was a very important part of life, and he based his entire life on learning the ways of the lord and following the ways of the lord. But through his experience in the concentration camps, Elizer lost believe that God even and existed. His believes were lost in that his mind couldn't comprehend the horror of it all. And maybe it was that Elizer didn't want to believe that this was actually happening and tried to blame God for his pain and agony, and just lost believe in every thing. And this is apparent in even today, in that people blame higher powers in hope to escape their pain and agony that is tormenting them.

Elizer also changed in that he grew more compassionate with his father, and more loving towards him. This is apparent in that they stuck together throughout the entire ordeal, and they always lent each other a helping hand. And this relationship was most likely what helped them through this horrible ordeal, in that all they had was each other. But they weren't always as close, in that Elizers father, before this, was more concerned with the community's needs instead of his family's needs. Elizer barely saw his father and didn't really have the greatest relationship with his father. And it's sad that it took a horrible situation like this to bring a father and son together. But its true that horrible situations make people realize actually how much they love someone, and how scared people are of dying and facing the pain of losing someone.

Elizer not only changed in this situation, but he also matured. In this I mean that the images he saw, and the struggle to stay alive made Elizer seem like he had lived many life times. But was still living in a child's body. And to always be fighting for your life is a stress that is incomprehensible to any person with a normal life.

Write my Essay on NIGHT for me

So all in all Elizer's life changed incredibly, and he experienced something that will not be forgotten. He lived through hell and told about it. And did it change his life for the good or the bad? The answer would have to be it changed his life for the worst in that he lost believe, and so many other things, but it can be said that this event made Elizer a strong individual and hopefully his story will never be forgotten.

Ged, the main character and hero in A Wizard of Earthsea, is a diverse and constantly changing man. He is also known as Duny and Sparrowhawk is a wizard on the fantasy world of Earthsea. He was born on the island of Gont and has the potential to be the most powerful wizard ever. His best friend is Estarriol, or Vetch who lives in the town of Ismay on the island of Iffish. Ged was schooled by Ogion, a wizard of Gont, and on Roke Island at Roke School.

In the first section of the book Ged is a mid-teen. He is very full of pride and is a bit power-hungry, impatient, and determined. A witch teaches him miniscule, not very complicated spells in his village, Ten Alders and when he over-exerts his power trying to save his village from attack Ogion who he follows to learn to be a wizard cures him. But Ogion does not teach him spells, so he shows that he is power-hungry and impatient and goes to Roke to become a mage. At Roke he meets Jasper, his rival, and his pride intervenes and he becomes determined to be better than Jasper and beat him. Overall, in the first section Ged seems to be a normal person.

In the second section of A Wizard of Earthsea Ged changes a little bit. He still has a monstrous amount of pride and is still very determined, but he loses his power-hunger for an eagerness to be out of any kind of spotlight and he trades his impatience for maturity, and also begins to trust his instincts. After a lot of determined work by Ged he confronts Jasper and they show their power. Ged makes the biggest mistake in his life and raises the dead because of his pride again. With the raised dead came a shadow and the shadow almost kills him he is left scarred and very changed. No longer power-hungry after he graduated he goes to a small village called Low Torning to work instead a castle or palace where he would be much more prized. He fights a dragon there and trusts his instincts that he knew the dragon's true name (so he could have power over it) when if he were wrong he would probably lose his life and many others. All in all, Ged changes a lot in the second section.

In the final section Ged is much wiser, solemn and then happy, and determined, but his most of his pride has been lost. After a couple of shadow-encounters, a grueling hawk flight, and a near death experience on the waves Ged's pride seemed to slip away as he learns that it has caused him all these close-calls. Ged is still very determined as he has been all throughout the book. He knows that he can't keep avoiding the shadow all his life and he must confront the shadow once and for all. He is now much more solemn, he is like a man who knows his destiny or someone who has to do the seemingly impossible (that is what he is) and then after he beats his shadow he is very happy for the first time in a while. He now knows much more about the world and much wiser in the ways of light and dark.

In conclusion Ged of Gont is a constantly changing, diverse character. Even though I didn't really love A Wizard of Earthsea I think Ged is one of the most developed complex characters I've ever read about in a book.

Classes at school aren't supposed to be that boring. Yet in my history class I couldn't keep myself from dozing off once in a while. I was startled when somebody else coughed, I didn't know that anyone else was awake. If there was ever a need for a cup of coffee it was right now. I tried sitting up and paying attention to the lecture on World War II. I glanced at my watch only to realize that there was still a whole hour of class left. How was I going to stay awake for one hour?

The only thought going through my head at the time was the Federer versus Phillopoussis match that was going to be played that night. The whole match seemed to be playing in my head. As time wore on I began to see Federer the local boy and my personal favorite tennis player in a sticky situation. He was two sets down with a score of 5-5 in the rd set. All of a sudden I began to see myself in that predicament, two sets down against Phillopoussis, a worthy champion in his own right, serving on center court in front of a packed house of more than 500 people. The atmosphere was electric. Perhaps the most nervous situation occurred each time I was about to serve. There was pin drop silence from a throng of 500 people. The pressure was immense and you sort of realized at that time that each and everyone one of them was focusing on what you were doing.

After narrowly holding serve, I broke the very next game and took the rd set 7-5. I don't know if I was just getting used to the pressure or if a large number of people took a toilet break, but my game seemed to be for the first time in this match, going right. I began to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Slowly, inch by inch, the crowd behind me, I began to claw my way back into the game and when in the final set I heard the chair umpire call out "game, set and match Federer" I was ecstatic and relieved. My heart was beating at a rate of knots. I wasn't very good at lip reading, but when I looked up at the commentary box I could read what John Mcenroe was saying "and that completes one of the greatest fight backs in Wimbledon final's history". Everyone were on their feet, even the queen of England who had made her gracious appearance on center court was applauding my performance. The words that I said to my opponent were so muffled by the roaring of the crowd that neither of us heard it.

When I sat down on my chair on court I began to look back at all the legends, the Bjorn Borg's, the John Mcenroe's, the Pete Sampras' who had had the honor of winning this prestigious trophy and it was a privilege to have my name printed along side theirs as 'Wimbledon champion'. In fact a tear rolled down my cheek.

Write my Essay on WIMBLEDON cheap

Suddenly a question popped into my head "how did the allies attack Hiroshima and Nagasaki?" I was brought back to the harsh reality by my teacher who was apparently asking me this question. I could only manage a glum ' I don't know' look on my face as I was diminished from a local boy legend of tennis to a below average history student who couldn't quite pay attention to what was going on in class.

The play Antigone, by Sophocles, shows courage and strength. "Impossible things should not be tried at all" is a discouraging quote stating that one should not work for something that he or she is not capable of doing. The impossible can become possible in many ways.

By walking on the Moon, our society has shown the world that the impossible can become possible. For example, it was a big risk when NASA sent their first astronaut into space. This proves that if one can set his or her mind to a certain goal, they can accomplish anything and make the impossible possible by just trying; by taking risks one can get farther in life and succeed. This explains that humans have evolved to a better existence. In addition, when Armstrong walked on the moon it became a worldwide event. This reveals that going for those dangers of life can improve not only the society, but also the accomplisher as well. This proves that our world has become better because of the people that make the impossible possible. Eventually, in the future, our civilization will keep advancing and overcome what today has already accomplished.

Trying to make the impossible possible has its consequences. For example, trying to jump into Niagara Falls. This shows that it can be possible, but dangerous by resulting in death. This verifies that impossible things cannot always be possible. In addition, people today face the danger of impossible things. This confirms that even though it is said to be impossible, it can eventually be made possible. This explains why the world is so advanced and developed today. Everyone can learn from their mistakes.

Through Antigone the impossible is trying to become possible. For example, Ismene refuses Antigone to give Polyneices a proper burial because it is against the law. This shows that Antigone is willing to risk her own life for the sake of her brother to find peace. This proves that the impossible, breaking the law, can still be carefully committed. In addition, when Antigone and Ismene fight about Polynieces' burial, Ismene claims that Antigone cannot do it. This makes Antigone want to risk it even more to show her sister. This shows that Antigone is not afraid of danger even if it is death; she does not fear the impossible. Even though Ismene, in a way, wants to help Antigone, she cannot face the chance of getting caught.

Through out the play, overcoming impossibilities is the obstacle. Making the impossible possible has its consequences. Learning from our mistakes is one of the reasons why the world is so advanced today as opposed to Greek times. Walking on the moon was one of the impossibilities that helped the world advance. Since the 60's we have come so far, imagine what we can do in the fifty or so years.

My dreams and hopes for the future.

Good afternoon everybody. You already know, my name is Alex.

I was absent the class last Thursday that I couldn't have to give this speech. So, I'm standing here right now.

I have been living here in Seattle for the past two months. I came here to be with my parents as they are both getting old. It was not an easy decision for me to leave Taiwan, but I am sure that many people here had done the same.

Order Custom Essay on My dreams and hopes for the future.

Before I came here, I worked in the Taiwan television industry as a producer of many local television programs. It is a job that I had been doing for 0 years. There are many advantages to working in this industry. For example, I have met and become friends with many television and movie stars, and I have had the opportunity to travel to many places. But there are many disadvantages also. I have often had to work for days without any sleep, just to meet deadlines to get the show out. As the saying goes, ¡§the show must go on¡¨. But now that I am here, I find that I have a lot of time and not a lot to do. This is why I am happy to be in this school studying English. It gives me something to work on and keeps me busy.

When I thought about the subject of this speech, I though about how many of us have had the dream of being a star at one time or another in our lives. In my country a very popular pastime for people is to go to the local KTV, or karaoke as it is known here, where they can live that dream for a little while. But what I enjoy more is the behind the scenes work that takes place to make people stars. Maybe it's because of my work, but that after watching a movie I usually find myself talking to friends about camera angles, or how a scene was edited. We may not always agree on if a certain movie was great because of its story, or the actor's performance, but we can usually agree on if a scene was filmed beautifully, or if the color was just right. I guess that is why people say, ¡§a picture says a thousand words¡¨.

Being here in America, the home of Hollywood and some of the biggest and the best movies in the world, my dream, and I suppose the dreams of everyone else in my line of work, is to be able to work with the best in the industry, People such as Steven Spielberg or George Lucas, for example.

I'm guessing that everyone would love to have a chance to work with the best in their field, whatever that may be. The important thing is how we can achieve that dream. For me, the first step is to take this opportunity to improve my English, and be able to just watch a Hollywood blockbuster without having to read the subtitles.

Someone once said ¡§that all journeys, no matter how great, begin with the first step.¡¨ I am now one step closer to my dream.

Thank you everybody for have patients to listen my speech. Thanks.
