Human Weakness

The book Of Mice and Men written by John Stienbeck is a novel set in the depression. Where some people roam from place to place to get a job to make ends meet. Others like George and Lennie travel together and help each other. Some characters in this book don't get along so well with their fellow man and pounce on any chance they have to bring out the worst in others.

One thing in life humans try to do is to build themselves up by pushing others down or making sure nobody is better than them. Curley is a prime example of this because he will always picks fights that he knows he can win. If he fights big guy others say, "Oh that big guy should pick on someone his own size." If he beats up someone his size, and he knows that he is better and he wins, it makes him look like a tough good guy. It's also his illusion that he has to help build himself up. Although this is a recipe for disaster and will eventually end up worse in the long run, most people who do this feel they need to be the best. To be the best means seeking out greater weakness in others. This seems to satisfy his need to be number one.

Seeking out greater weakness in others is a trait that Curley's wife also has. Curley's wife is so lonely she puts up a front and acts like a tramp. She does this so she can cover up how insecure she feels inside. She seeks out Lennie's weakness when she talks to him in the barn about her life long dream. She preys upon Lennie's mental handicap, a weakness greater then hers, to make herself think that someone is really listening and paying attention to her. Lennie becomes so captivated with her soft hair it leads to his uncontrolled strength that kills her. Not being able to control his strength is a weakness of Lennie. The portrayal of women in this novel helps the fact that Steinbeck could think that women are the weakness of some men. Curley's wife appears to bring out the weakness in others to cover her own short-comings.

Crooks covers up his loneliness of being black and socially rejected from the bunk-house by taking advantage of Lennie. He dose this in sort of the same way that Curley's wife did just so he could have someone to talk to. By making Lennie wonder if he will ever see George again gives Crooks the upper hand. George is everything to Lennie, and Lennie never has second thoughts of George not being perfect. So when Crooks tells Lennie that George is not coming back it scares Lennie. This makes Crooks feel sharp but, when Lennie stands up to confront Crooks then Crooks seems just to want companionship and doesn't really care about being better.

It's the predatory nature of human existence to want to be the best or have others like and accept you. Sometimes people will try to do things to get themselves to be an ideal person. Good things such as gaining respect or bad things like seeking out greater weaknesses in others or pushing others down to get to the top. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

Fantasia 000 Critique

For this week I chose a new movie by Disney that came out a little while ago called, "Fantasia 000". It's really neat it was in stereophonic sound virtually computer generated. It has objects that represent the sounds of the music. It's very detailed with tone color and dynamics that made a viewer feel what is going on rather that being told the emotions by and actor. They were very successful at doing this.

I listened to it at home with a huge stereo that consists of two fifteen inch speakers with the mid range and high range tweeters. I also have a set of twelve inch speaker setting next to those with a pair of ten inch speakers behind me. I was surrounded by music and I really felt the music. There was a song named, "Pines of Rome", that had whales that flew in the clouds that I thought was pretty intense. It was a compilation of a few different movements starting with fast then it mellowed down to a legato smooth easy feeling with a infant whale strolling around the ocean depths looking for his group. The third part of the song had a strong unity feeling which builds the feeling of unity when he finds them. It's like a opera but with digital animation. All the songs were written in the 1th century and was played by the Chicago Orchestra.

One of the songs that I felt was the best out of the whole movie was, "Firebird". It had a nature person that went around with a mellow happy tone adding life to the wildlife that was dead. It was in the A B A ternary form with the last A being the prime it changed a little bit. She character of water was the nature person that spread life all over the land. She came across the land to a volcano which erupted and had the low brass pounding the melody into her, it was brutal and really represented the tone of the actions taking place. This was the B part of the song. Then came that other A part, she got picked up after being battered and torn by the devil volcano, by a deer and she started crying and that started to spread life back into the land. She gracefully moved along with the music in the same way that she was in the beginning. I got to perform this piece in marching band when I was in high school and I loved it. It was a crowd pleaser that gained respect by the audience as we performed. It sent chill's down my spine when I was able to blast that hard core rhythm of notes that just put a tone of domination toward what ever is in the path of destruction.

Write my Essay on Fantasia 2000 critique

"The Rhapsody in Blue", Had an opening in fugue where the melody repeated itself with different instruments mimicking different voices of the music It started of with a single note played on the violin and it built off that into a orchestra with sustained notes and melodies backed with rhythmic power that made the listener feel the irony of the people living in the big city of New York. All the music was classical and moving with different arrays of color and texture that you just have to hear. I actually liked the "Fantasia 000", because it is great work. It should be appreciated because of the music shaping the characters thoughts and emotions along with their feelings. The music was the words.

There are laws in America that cover every topic under the sun. In fact, there are so many that we will never know some of them exist. Although we may not ever know every law of this country, we should all be familiar with how a law is created.

A law starts out as an idea. Somewhere, someone, or a group of people, have an idea about a certain way something should be. (This does not necessarily have to be a politician. But it's helpful to know one at this stage.) If the idea sparks some interest in the mind of a congressman, he can decide to sponsor it as a bill. This means that the congressman agrees to introduce and support the bill throughout the process.

The congressman first introduces the bill in his branch of congress, either the Senate or the House of Representatives. After the bill is presented, it is assigned to a committee, which in turn assigns it to a sub-committee. The sub-committee then has hearings to determine the need, or demand, for the bill. After these meetings are held, the sub-committee votes to see if the bill should proceed to the committee, who also votes. Once the bill passes the committee it is brought to the full House or the Senate for yet another vote.

In the case of the House of Representatives, they discuss any amendments that were added to the bill and then vote on it. The bill can then be approved, or can be sent back to the committee for adjustments.

Do my essay on HOW A BILL BECOMES LAW CHEAP !

Once the bill has come to the full Senate, each senator has a short amount of time to speak his or her feelings on the matter. They can offer modified versions of the bill, or object to it completely. After all comments and views have been presented, the bill is ready for a vote.

Now let's say the bill has been passed by the House. It will now go to the Senate to be put through the same process it has already undergone in the House. To move forward to the next step, the Senate must approve it exactly as it reads. If the Senate changes the bill in any way, shape or form, it must go back to the House for approval.

Once all adjustments have been made to satisfy everyone, it is then forwarded to the President to sign. The President has most likely commented on the bill in some way by this time, indicating whether he is in favor of the bill or not. There is usually no surprise by his decision to sign or veto it. If he chooses to veto the bill, it gets sent back to Congress.

When this happens The House and the Senate then have three choices

They can modify the bill to the President's liking;

They can agree that the bill will never be passed and let it go; or

The can vote to override the President's veto

To override the veto, they need to have two-thirds of the members of both houses votes.

Whether the president chooses to sign the bill right away, or waits for it to be brought back after changes are made, it becomes a law as soon as he signs.

This can be a long and drawn out process. It was created by the founders of the Constitution, to ensure that bills are not just pushed through the system without the thought of consequences. But all the hard work can pay off when you see that the once, 'fleeting thought' in someone's mind has become a law.

IN SOPHOCLES PLAY OEDIPUS THE KING OEDIPUS REVEALS HIS MANY TRAITS

All characters in pieces of English literature portray their own character traits which makes them and the story what they are. In Sophocles play Oedipus the King Oedipus reveals his many traits. From the beginning until the end Oedipus shows us his caring, short temper, and arrogant side of himself. I say this because these are the most obvious traits Oedipus shows in the play.

In the beginning of the play when Oedipus says to the suppliants, "Whether you come in dread, or crave some blessing Tell me, and never doubt that I will help you in every way I can." (Sophocles 184) we see his caring side. He cares for the town's peoples well being. So in an act of kindness he tries to help them with their problems. At the end of the play Oedipus says to Creon, "My poor daughters, who have shared my table, who never before have been parted from their father--Take care of them, Creon." (Sophocles 141) thus again this is showing his caring side for others.

Although Oedipus is caring he also has a short temper. This is shown to us when he leaves his home in Corinth and he comes across some men, where three roads meet. These men gave him a hard time so he just kills them for no reason other than he couldn't control his temper and got mad at them. Also when Oedipus is telling Teiresias to tell him who killed the former king (Laios) his anger rises. This happens when Teiresias says, "No; I will never tell you what I know. Now it is my misery; then, it would be yours." (Sophocles 1). Oedipus responds back with a rude comment saying, " What a wicked old man you are!" (Sophocles 1) In another instance like this Oedipus threatens a Shepards life because the Shepard with holds information from him. His temper is a trait shown to us from the beginning.

Help with essay on Oedipus

Oedipus's arrogance is another trait shown to us. He is so arrogant that he can't believe that he could possibly have done anything wrong. When Teiresias accuses him of killing Laios he responds saying, "You dare say that!" (Sophocles 1) Oedipus suffers from being very vain, and conceited. No matter how straightforward Teiresias's riddles were Oedipus's arrogance wouldn't let him solve them. Finally, Teirisias told Oedipus what he meant without any riddles and Oedipus still could not accept that he did anything wrong. Teiresias simply said, "You are the murderer whom you seek." (Sophocles 1) Following his remark Oedipus shields himself by accusing Creon of trying to take his throne saying, "Are you speaking for Creon, or for yourself." (Sophocles 14) But again of course this wasn't true it is just another example of Oedipus's arrogance trying to defend himself. Arrogance is also shown many times in the play.

Throughout the entire play we are shown Oedipus's character traits. Although we may not always notice someone's traits like this we are shown his caring side, short temper, and his arrogance. This brings us to the conclusion that although everyone has many different traits Oedipus's main traits shown in the play were again his caring, short temper, and arrogance side of himself.

Isaac Newton

Isaac Newton was born on Christmas day in 1642. He was also born premature and wasn't expected to live. His father died three months before he was born, leaving his mother alone to raise him. His mother remarried to Barnabas Smith. He was a rather wealthy man and he forced his new wife to leave her son with his grandparents while they go live in South Witham. For everything that's happened since his mother's remarriage, he's been keeping a diary explaining the hatred that he feels for his stepfather. While he was with his grandmother he would spend the day in his room making kites and other mechanical devices. When he turned ten, his stepfather died and his mother returned to live with him. After much persuasion he decided to attend Cambridge University where all his inventions took place.

He decided to figure out theory for gravity when an apple fell on his head in the summer of 1666. Being only 22 years old he was attending college. During his past years at Cambridge University, Newton had made an extraordinary breakthrough in physics and mathematics. This mathematical genius had studied the work of every notable mathematician in the world. Also he made discoveries in the study of light. He shaped a piece of glass into what we call a prism that can split light from red to violet. He created what we now call a spectrum with cardboard and glass. When this happened he discovered that the sun produces the following colors: violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. What he learned from this was that when looking through the prism you can no longer see the white light it becomes tinted.

Newton's discoveries in optics were quite spectacular. His discoveries explained why bodies appear to be colored. It allows people to determine the chemical composition, temperature, and even the speed of such hot, as a distant star or an object heated in a lab. He discovered that sunlight is a mixture of light of all colors. A green sweater illuminated by sunlight looks green because it reflects the green light in the sun and absorbs most of the other colors. The study of light led him to building a new type of telescope in which a reflecting mirror is used instead of a combination of lenses.

He realized that an object of the same force pulls an object to earth and keeps the moon in its orbit. The force by which the earth attracts or pulls a large rock is greater than the pull on a small pebble because the rock contains more matter. The earth's pull is called the weight of the body. This theory helped explain why a rock weighs more than a pebble.

He also proved that many types of motion are because of one kind of force. He showed that the gravitational force of the sun keeps the planets in their orbits, just as the gravitational force of the earth attracts the moon. The falling of objects on earth seems different from the motion of the moon because the objects fall straight down to the earth. The moon moves in a circle around the earth. He showed that the moon falls just like an object on earth. Newton calculated how much the moon falls in each second. The moon is 60 times as far from the earth's center as any other object. Now you understand how an apple can change the world.

January 4, 00

It's hard not to get a resolution push for on New Year's ever. There's that logic of rebirth and the guilty awareness that you ate your own weight in chocolate during the holidays. Sure, last year's resolution didn't make it past the fifth of January but each year you tell your self things will be different.

Most of us don't have a clue how to make a practical resolution, which is why most of us fall short to keep the ones we make. I have set goals to high for myself, and then wonder why I never reach them. So this year I have decided to either stop setting goals, which is never a good decision, or make resolutions that are reasonably easy to keep. If you are the type who makes, but never keeps, New Year's resolutions, here are a few do and don'ts I have tried over the pass few years.

First, I don't discard the idea of setting resolutions because I have broken them in the past. I later decided I may need to simply re-adjust the type and number of goals I am setting for myself. In the past, I've kept my list to no more than ten items that leads me into my next tip.

Second, I don't make too many resolutions. Pick one or two subject matters such as career advancement, stop smoking, paying bills or better eating habits. There is no rule that says you have to cover all areas you'd like to change in your resolutions.

Third, I don't set resolutions whose success is based upon issues beyond my control. Saying "I've decide to pay all outstanding household bills" depends not only upon my own plan, but also upon outside factors (the offered overtime on my job or a part time job), which neither of I have total control.

Fourth, I try to be realistic. A resolution to run a lengthily by year's end is likely out of reach for an inexperienced exerciser. Likewise, resolving to stop all of my unhealthy habits at once is likely to fail. I try to pick a safe, within reach goal with a realistic time frame.

Fifth, I try to set goals based upon my own wishes, desires, and dreams, and not those of the public or those persons close to me. Though this seems obvious, many people waste time trying to meet society or people's expectations. I do plan a reward for myself when each resolution is met and this keeps me focused and in control.

Sixth, I do plan intermediate goals if it helps me maintain control. I will decided where I would like to be in two or three months, and check myself then. Achieving these smaller or intermediate goals also gives me a sense of completion and motivation for the larger goals.

In conclusion, it has also been very nice to buddy up with a friend who shares the some of the same goals. I reign as the undisputed queen of the broken resolution when it comes to loosing weight and exercising. Oh sure, my resolution stood firm for a few weeks, and its memory returned throughout the year, mostly to make me feel guilty and hopeless. But I never did anything about it because I didn't follow through with my plan.

Nobel Gases

Also known as inert gases. They are the last group, i.e. group 8, in the period table. As they belong to the same group they have the same physical and chemical properties. They have a stable electronic configuration by having an octet in their outermost shell, under normal condition they are odorless, colorless, tasteless monatomic gases. All of them has a closed subshell, a p subshell which is tightly bound (for helium, it has only s orbital). They are chemically inert and so dont form chemical bonds with other atoms. They are only VanderWaals forces of attraction between them. As they dont have have any valence electrons they have have high ionization energies and poor conductivity. With low boiling points, they are gases at room temperature.
