FIGHT FOR YOUR FREEDOM

"The freedom of mankind is a truly wondrous idea." Freedom has been one of the most precious things that has not easily given up by people in the history. It is really indispensible for all nations. The Carthagnians had fought with the Romans for their independence. The Turks had made a war with the Chinese to be independent. They were aware of the situation. Under those circumstances, it was impossible to regain their freedom without fighting. They also focused on the idea that they would be considered as heros by their descendants. The idea of fighting for your freedom is extremely valuable because freedom is a precious thing worth fighting for and to fight is to gain honor.

When it is impossible to gain freedom a war usually occurs. If a nation loses its freedom or independence and begins to live as a part of another nation, it will lose its characteristics, identity, and national beliefs. As a result of this, nations which can't obtain their freedom thorough discussions, conferences or other ways will probably start a war for their freedom. "Its accomplishment would be so great, so enabling to so many people."

Custom Essays on fight for your freedom

The Turkish independence war is the finest example which completely fits the idea of fighting for freedom. After the first World War, the Ottoman Empire was invaded by England, France, Italy, Russia, and Greece. These nations shared all of the Anatolia. However, the Turks have always lived independently, since the first Turkish nation The Huns. The Huns had beaten the Chinese for their independence in B.C 00's and, like their ancestors, the Turks had started a war named "The Turkish Independence War". Turkish people gave everything to the army that they had, they carried guns, bullets, and bombs to the field. At last they defeated the enemies and despite many deaths and serious injuries, they gained their independence.

Another purpose of fighting for freedom is to gain honor. Since the first war began, fighting has been considered an honorful way to die. The first war was named "Kadesh War" and it was between the Hittites and the Egyptians. For that war many Egyptian soldiers joined the Egyptian Army voluntarily. They risked their lives but they had the dream of being a hero.

Their names was written on the obelisks of Egyptian Temples. Roman soldiers went to Carthage War to die in a honorful way. This taboo hasn't changed for centuries. In the First Age you were considered a holy hero by the Pope of Cristians, in the Middle Age you were knighted by Kings when you succeeded in wars. Furthermore, there are modern examples of this fact Yaser Arafat the leader of Palestinians, Cahar Dudayev the leader of Checenia rebellion.

As exampled before, Yaser Arafat wants to become a real hero, so he doesn't accept any peace terms except war. Twenty years ago, he was surrounded by Israili forces and he had had no opportunity except going to Tunusia because he was in danger of death. Consequently, this caused a great disappointment in the Yaser Arafat's mind. Although he still wants to rescue Palestine and become independent, his main reason is to gain honor and become a hero in the minds of Palestinian people. Cahar Dudayev worked and fought very hard for his country. He was killed in a Russian assault and immediately became a hero of Checenia.

"Then battle for freedom wherever you can, and then, if not shot or hanged, you'll get knighted." Lord Byron said. If you risk your life in fighting for your freedom, you will have two chances To die or to become a hero. Idealistic people who are in favour of dying for freedom will not think twice before they fight in a war. And people who overvalue their independence will give their life for your their freedom .Many people fight for their freedom in order to gain honor and freedom.

A farm in the Hudson Valley of New York brings back Gwen's earliest memories.

Here, the fields are rolling in green, the mountains always in the horizon, a never ending stream of people going in and out of the front door and her life, a great place to live.

Gwen remembers sleeping on a small green Army cot in her parent's bedroom, at the age of four. She remembers being terrified of the skeletons in the closet, and the bad dreams that stemmed from them. Her father routinely sprayed the house with "Skeleton Spray" that smelled uncannily like Glade Country Fresh air freshener. Even to this day neither Gwen nor her older sister can stand the smell of that. On the not so rare occasion that the cute little four year old stayed up all night worrying about the dreaded skeletons, her Grandpa would come over in the morning and have a pancake fit. One day all of this changed, forcing Gwen to move away from her beloved home.

The move to Jonesboro, Georgia was an interesting one for Gwen and her sister, Danielle. In Georgia they both realize where their real home will always be. Life in New York differs greatly from the way people live in Georgia. In New York families are often seen sitting in a booth at a bar with all the bikers oohing and ahhing over the children. In these bars Gwen learned a lot about life and was sought after like a rare '54 Harley Davidson. It is there that they have all the "uncles" they could ever ask for. It is also there that they get free Shirley Temples served to them by their two bartender aunts, Val and Wendy, whenever they please. Gwen's grandmother does not approve of these outings, but this is probably because she was raised to act the way a proper rich girl should. But Gwen's grandfather does not mind at all. After all, it is not every day that he gets to see his favorite granddaughter.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Fictional Personal Narrative

To this day Gwen's friends seem shocked when she tells them about the way she grew up. None of them can believe that her parents let her do some of the things she did when she was younger or even the things she does now. They cannot believe that a biker whose name was Rooster read her bedtime stories or even that he has a PHD in philosophy. It is even harder for them to believe that Gwen has turned down her uncle and his friends of their wanting to "take care of it," on numerous occasions. Gwen has lead a very interesting and unique life with many diverse people ranging from her mafia-tied uncle, to her so-called uncle bikers, to her loveable firefighting/truck driving grandfather, to her own Army father.

Gwen does not have the chance to hang around bikers all the time now, instead she ops for her friends. They do not usually go to bars and talk, instead they go to Starbucks. She has been to Germany and eleven states, and hopes to go back someday.

Since she has moved down south she has done many great things. First baseman and pitcher for nine ten years, all-star trophies, special traveling tournament teams, marching band, these are all accomplishes that she can add to her list.

At the age of twenty-seven, Gwen has accomplished many goals in her life and many dreams have come true. She has traveled to Europe once again, while she was in college, and studied art in Paris. A law degree from Columbia University now graces the premises of her office. Now, she hopes to have her dream of being a jazz singer will come true. One can safely say that with unique upbringing of Gwen and her sisters, there will never be a situation they cannot talk or fight their way out of, never be a job they could not acquire, and that if anything ever happens, they will have the best people to call for help. Anything is possible for Gwen.

The Halifax Explosion was a bad event that happened to Canadians and it could have been avoided because the safety measures that affected the explosion could have affected if the explosion took place. Three reasons how it could have been prevented were that when the explosion took place, spectators that watched the burning of the Mont Blanc were one reason. Another reason is that the appropriate signals weren't used and the other is the narrow stretch of water near the port where the ships collided.

On Thursday, December 6, 117 between 845 and 05am, one of the most dreaded events happened in Halifax that day. During this time a French supply ship, the Mont Blanc, was burning rapidly with explosives also on the ship. A Belgian relief ship, the Imo, collided with the Mont Blanc and set it a blaze. Making the Mont Blanc a ticking time bomb before the explosion took place. The explosives on deck of the Mont Blanc were 5 tons of benzol, 00 rounds of ammunition, 10 tons of gun cotton, ,00 tons of petric acid (used in explosives), and 400,000 pounds of TNT.

One of the safety measures that could have prevented the explosion were the spectators that watched the burning of the Mont Blanc. One reason for this is that the spectators and many children gathered at the dock to watch the burning ship, which meant they were in close range. If no spectators were watching the burning of the Mont Blanc, then the death toll or number of injuries would be reduced. Another reason why spectators were a factor is that the 0-minute period between the burning and the explosion was enough time for other spectators to gather around windows at their houses. When the explosion took place, flying glass injured many spectators1000 survivors suffered eye damage.

Another reason the explosion could have been prevented was that both the Mont Blanc and Imo didn't use the appropriate flags before the explosion. One reason for this is that the Mont Blanc, the ship carrying the explosives, wasn't flying the red flag signaling that it carried explosive material and that the ship traveled very slow by the Dartmouth shore when she spotted the Imo. If the ship showed the red flag, then the Imo could have been more cautious when the Imo saw the Mont Blanc. The other reason is that the Imo, a much faster ship than the Mont Blanc, signaled that she was moving closer to the Dartmouth shore, which put her in the Mont Blanc's path. If the Mont Blanc spotted the Imo in it's path, the ship wouldn't have enough time to react and move out of the way of the Imo.

Order College Papers on Legalization on Marijuana

The last reason the explosion could have been prevented is that the ships collided in a narrow stretch of water, which was a big factor. One reason for this is that the narrow stretch of water should have been widened because than the explosion wouldn't have taken place. If there wasn't a narrow stretch of water, the Imo, the faster ship, could have had a faster time to move out of the way in a wider stretch of water. The other reason is that the Imo should have been scheduled to leave at a different time then the Mont Blanc. If they left or entered the port at different times, they would have never met each other and could have completely prevented the explosion.

The spectators watching the burning of the Mont Blanc, the appropriate signals being used and the narrow stretch of waters are considered the three main factors that could have prevented the Halifax Explosion. The Halifax Explosion will be a remembered event because it was the first man-made nuclear explosion before the nuclear age. It ended in a blinding white flash, a disintegrated French supply vessel, and a city with 5 acres of it in ruins.

The definition of the term 'archetypal hero' is a tricky one , due to the fact that, like the concept of good and evil, it is all a matter of opinion. What is highly valued by one person could be considered trash by another. To critique for a wider audience, only the most basic, crucial criteria should be used. There are three essential requirements that a character must fulfill to earn the title of hero skill, appeal, and victory.

To satisfy the requirement of skill, the character in question must possess uncommon abilities. These present themselves in three forms physical ability, mental prowess, and courage. Of the novels Anthem, The Odyssey, and Angela's Ashes, Odysseus, the hero of The Odyssey, is the only one that shows exceptional physical ability, even though it is one of the most common characteristics of heroes. The skill of Equality, the hero of Anthem, resides mainly in the field of mental prowess, shown by his great analytical and philosophical abilities. Odysseus also exhibits great mental capacity, a characteristic even more valuable than its physical counterpart. In Angela's Ashes, Frank displays the third and final option for qualification in the category of skill courage. His life was nothing short of abysmal, but he managed to survive itwithout killing himself, thereby appearing brave in the eyes of the reader, because he did something no one else could or would. For this requirement, it does not matter whether the brave action is voluntary.

The criterion of appeal dictates that the reader must favor the hero. If the reader hates the character in question, that character must be the villain, and therefore cannot be the hero. In The Odyssey, Odysseus' favor is won through the praise of other characters in the book. Several characters constantly go on about strong Odysseus, wise Odysseus, brave Odysseus. Equality is liked because of his independence. He appeals to the average reader's sympathy for the underdog, the one that has no hope of winning, but keeps on fighting anyway. If he actually had a decent chance of winning, he wouldn't be anything special. Frank's reason for popularity is his decrepit situation. He is poor, malnourished, uneducated, and has only ever seen the worst of life. For all this, Frank's audience pities him, and no one can truly dislike someone he or she pities.

By far, the most important requirement for the title of hero is victory. The hero always wins. If the hero does not win, then he or she is just another person trampled underfoot by his or her enemy. Such characters are forgotten within seconds, and most definitely do not fit the role of hero. The two ways a character can win are in the literal sense, and in a metaphoric sense. The literal sense is most clearly shown in The Odyssey, when Odysseus and his allies brutally slaughter their enemies. They had foes, and physically beat them. All the characters actions represent some concept or idea, and the character's victory is one in which the persona changes, rather than the physical situation. A good example of this concept is Equality's victory over his society. While he did physically escape from its clutches, the true battle was for his mind. When he renounced its ideology and declared independence, he won his intellectual freedom in a clear-cut victory. Frank's victory is a little of both senses, in that he managed to make his way to America, thereby achieving his goal, but also succeeded in completing his journey into manhood.

Order custom research paper on Heroes

As aforementioned, a hero must be unique, well liked, and, above all, must win. This applies to all heroes in all stories, and is clearly shown in these three books. Critics may say that there are other qualities that make a hero, and that may be true, but the core, the very essence of a hero boils down to those three criteria. Without them, there can be no hero.

This is the kind of movie that my parents would shut off halfway through and slap me upside the head for recommending in the first place. Its slow, its introspective, it features a number of scenes with no dialogue & characters simply walking about town, and ultimately, it doesnt have much to say...on the surface. Yes, LOST IN TRANSLATION has already become the early critics darling of the year and despite it being a darn good film, I for one, cant say that its anything more than a sweet homage to Japan as seen through the eyes of two lonely, conflicted Americans, each grappling with questions about their respective existence. The films soundtrack, much like the one Coppola utilized in her previously overrated directorial debut, THE VIRGIN SUICIDES, is also worthy of notice, especially the way in which the songs resonated with the material. The cinematography, the whole look and feel of the picture was also breathtaking (the golf course shot was particularly divine), with many scenes in and around Tokyo, really giving you a true sense of the differences in culture as well as the alienation felt by its lead characters. The acting was also solid, although once again, I cant agree with most others out there, who seem to be shouting Oscar! for both Murray and Johannson. I dont know what criteria others consider when acknowledging great acting gigs, but I personally need a little more than playing things straight-face as Murray does brilliantly throughout this entire film (although he did that even better in RUSHMORE, in my opinion). Johansson is also good, but again, her character, much like Murrays isnt really emotive or challenged enough to be considered as a brilliant performance, in my humble opinion.

But my main issue with the film, which like I said earlier, despite an extremely deliberate pace (read very slow) managed to hook me with its existential theme dipped in the connection between human beings, loneliness, suffering, etc..., was its bottom line, which was a courageous approach to utilize (on the surface, all were shown is two strangers meeting in a foreign city and spending some mostly frivolous time together), but not an altogether fulfilling one once everything was said and done. It reminded me a lot of ABOUT SCHMIDT in that sense, but at least with that film, I was overpowered by the time the final shot came around and understood some of what that journey must have meant, and felt like. Here, we get a resolution, but it wasnt a touching, emotional or particularly profound one...although I did love the whisper...brilliant! Then again, it took me three viewings of ABOUT SCHMIDT to fully grasp its deeper meaning, so who knows, maybe I was just a little slow on the uptake today. Having said that, if youre the type of person (kind of like my parents), who likes their movies straightforward, fast-paced, filled with obvious plot points or greater emotional impact, Im not sure if this artsy flick will sit well with you. If, on the other hand, you enjoy contemplating your existence, dont mind sitting through a slow-to-develop plot about two strangers hanging out and connecting on some level or another, buy yourself a ticket to this film and discover its more insightful meaning to you. Oh yeah, its also got some pretty funny moments featuring Murrays character, the washed-up actor, clashing with Japanese culture, in case you thought that it was just a dry drama. Personally, I had simply read/heard way too much hyperbole about this movie before my screening, so I couldnt help but feel a little let down afterwards. Hopefully, my review will lower your expectations a touch and allow you to fully enjoy the piece as it was intended. I would definitely catch it again some time, hopefully with a drink in one hand and a letter to my loved one in the other.

A Lesson Before Dying, written by Ernest Gaines is a wonderful book. The two main characters are Grant Wiggins and Jefferson, two black men. Action takes place in the 140s, when discrimination of African Americans in the U.S. was widely spread. This leads Jefferson to be sentenced to death by electrocution for no reason. Jefferson was unfairly blamed for killing a storekeeper Mr. Grope. Also, Jefferson was called a hog by the defense lawyer. This definitely caused main complication in his character during the last few months of his life. This essay discuss the most obvious differences between the two main characters of this book and the lessons they learnt at the very end of Jefferson's short and miserable life.

First of all, there are several differences between Jefferson and Grant. The first difference is in their education that determines their quality of life, status in society, behavior in certain situations and wealth. Of course, it can be argued that just parents can make their children go to school. But parents should show the possibility of different life after graduating high school. Later the child has to choose to continue education and become intelligent in life or just do as Jefferson did. We know that Grant went to school and university by himself, while Jefferson didn't, even thought both of them grew up without their parents. This fact shows the different mentality of two persons from the same background. Another feature that distinguishes them is their employment. Grant has a job teaching in black school, while Jefferson is employed occasionally on farms as a seasonal worker. Later in the book Jefferson says "You ever seen me with a car, with more than a dollar in my pocket?" Uncertainness about the future usually leads people to various ventures or even crimes, as in Jefferson's case. Actually, he didn't murdered the storekeeper, but he got into bad company, whereas Grant has a girlfriend and thinks about marriage. I think neither Grant nor Miss Emma did their job properly few years ago by making Jefferson to study hard and let him to go on the right track. The reason for this might be that Miss Emma also has a little understanding what a successful graduating can give for a man in his life.

Despite the fact that Grant and Jefferson are slightly different personalities they share some essentials similarities and character features. They have a common world outlook, because both of them are godless. Probably, this feature makes the most important event happen in this novel; it helped Grant to recover from the unprecedented defense lawyer speech about Jefferson not being a man but a hog.

Overall, these characters differences and conflicts between personalities teach both Grant and Jefferson a lesson. Grant's lesson is that he learnt to listen to people and respect their wishes, whatever they would be. I refer to Miss Emma desperate willingness to make Jefferson a man. Grant is a brave man, because he didn't leave the town and patiently put lots of effort into this matter regardless of his self-contradiction. Similarly, Jefferson recovered from depression and went to death without a big fear. Grant even made him to write a diary where he said good-by to Miss Emma.

Finally, this book demonstrated a situation where two men helped each other find out what is the most important in their lives. Grant didn't lose his standing in the town's society, while Jefferson understand that he is a man.
