In "The Things They Carried", Tim O'Brien tells a story about the Vietnam War. In the story, the main character is a -year-old Lieutenant, Jimmy Cross, who leads a platoon of soldiers. The soldiers' missions are to march from village to village pointlessly, and to trash the village well. They also search out and destroy tunnel complexes in the Than Khe area. During the war, each soldier has to carry certain things; the things they carry are determined by necessity, function of rank, field specialty, superstition and are varied by mission. In addition, they also carry intangible emotional burdens like fear, grief and confusion. In mid-April, one of the soldiers, Ted Lavender, is shot in a mission to blow the tunnels. Jimmy blames himself for not performing his duties firmly, as he is thinking about his love Martha during the mission. After the tragedy, Jimmy decides to impose strict field discipline to keep the platoon together and carry out his duties as a Lieutenant firmly. This story reveals the cruelty of war. It also tells people that war may have enormous impacts on people's emotions and personal values. Furthermore, the story suggests that the emotional weight people carry may help or hurt them in life-threatening situations.

In the story, the author uses description and conversation to portray each character. The protagonist, Jimmy Cross, is a round character. The narrator tells a good deal about this character, thus we know the character's thoughts and feelings. Jimmy is portrayed as a dreamy Lieutenant. He thinks about Martha even when he is in missions; 'After five minutes, Lieutenant Jimmy Cross moved to the tunnel…and then suddenly, without willing it, he was thinking about Martha'. This shows the cruelty of war, as people are forced to separate from their love ones. Besides, Jimmy is a dynamic character, since his attitude changes throughout the story. Before Ted Lavender is shot, Jimmy leads his platoon laxly and he's always thinking of Martha. After the tragedy, he feels responsible for Ted's death; he abruptly decided that he must think only of his job in the field. In addition, he is 'determined to perform his duties firmly and without negligence'. Jimmy's change in attitude again suggests that war is cruel. Jimmy is only , but he has to bear the responsibility for his soldiers' lives. Rather than studying in a college, he is forced to grow and carry extra emotional baggage.

Besides the main character Jimmy, the author created many minor characters. Ted Lavender is one of the flat characters in the story. He has so much fear about the war, since he thinks that it's necessary to carry 'six or seven ounces of premium dope', so that he can forget he is at war. The character of Ted Lavender reveals one fact that the soldiers are afraid of the war and terrified of dying; however, they are more afraid to show their emotions. Revealing natural emotions like fear and showing basic instincts like run and hide are not valued; these means cowardice. As the narrator put in the story, 'It was not courage, exactly; the object was not valor. Rather, they were too frightened to be cowards'.

Apart from characters, the author creates conflicts in the story to carry out the central ideas. First of all, there is a conflict between the tangible weight and the intangible emotional weight that the soldiers carry. They carry tangible things such as rations and guns, which may save themselves at life-threatening situations. As all of the soldiers have extra emotional weight, for instance, fear, to carry; they bring things like good luck charm and photos to get away from the horror of war. This is ironic because the extra things they carry are not functional at war; the extra weight they put on may kill them instead.

The characters in the story all have conflicts between their internal feelings and external expressions. Even though they are terrified in the mission to blow tunnels, they make jokes on Lee Strunk about his 'rise from the dead'. Besides, they show courage and toughness in order to 'avoid the blush of dishonor'. These conflicts reach an extreme that 'Men killed, and died, because they were embarrassed not to'. Soldiers are usually expected to be brave and have courage at war, therefore, the characters in the story do things that they 'feel they have to do' in order to fulfill people's expectations.

In conclusion, "The Things They Carried" truly reflects what happened during the Vietnam War. It tells people that war is cruel and may affect a person's life physically and emotionally. Besides, people's values can be distorted during life threatening situations, which may lead to insensible decisions. Last but not the least; the story suggests that the emotional weight people carry may help or hurt them in dangerous situations.

California Pizza Kitchen Not the Taster's Choice

"Where should we eat tonight?" This is a question that is asked very often. Being in college and on a very strict budget makes this question very hard to answer. Recently my friends and I visited California Pizza Kitchen for dinner. I found that being in the situation I am currently in, that is being a "starving college student,' it is not the best place, but if you have money to spend and are not too particular with the food you want, this could be the place for you. Even though the restaurant going experience is fine and atmosphere is fine; the food is not good and the prices are too high.

The food preparation and execution was something that I was not too impressed with. Coming from a family that values the way their food tastes as well as it looks, I was not too impressed. I was somewhat satisfied with the taste of the food. The Rosemary Chicken Sandwich was pretty good but the salad I received on the side was really bad. The lettuce was not fresh and the salad dressing tasted like they were trying to make it bad. The lettuce was wilted and the croutons were stale. The appearance of the food was disappointing. The sandwich was not big at all or arranged nicely with the salad on the plate. One would expect that the chefs would try and make the food look appealing but they didn't at all. The temperature of the food was fine but the portions were too small for the amount of money I was paying to eat there. The food was not cold but the small size reduced the quality of the meal. If I had had more of a choice with the sides I could receive with my sandwich, I would have been impressed. When I asked for the sandwich it was immediately inferred that I wanted either soup or salad, and in fact, I did not.

The atmosphere at California Pizza Kitchen was not as bad as the food. The cleanliness of the table and dining area was up to par, although I found the comfort of the seating not to pleasing. The chairs were hard and wooden and did not lean back at all, which forced me to sit up terribly straight and gave me a back ache. The music and the lighting level seemed appropriate for the time in which we attended the restaurant. It was an eclectic mix of young talented artists with very mellow beats and voices. It was in the evening so the music was not too loud or irritating and the lighting was relatively bright. The dcor of the restaurant was not special at all; the only thing that happened to catch my eye was the presence of many mirrors which added a nice touch. They were located on the walls and ceiling which made the restaurant seem a lot bigger which was nice. I was only somewhat satisfied with the overall ambience of the restaurant. There could have been more decorations and artwork on the walls. I felt like the restaurant had less character because of the absence of wall art.

Buy california pizza kitchen:not the taster's choice term paper

One of the things that I unfortunately didn't take into account when choosing California Pizza Kitchen was the price factor. To me California Pizza Kitchen seems like one of those restaurants that are known for its name. Just like designer labels are liked because of their name, California Pizza Kitchen seems like a place that is liked because of its name. I feel like I am paying more to just say I am going to California Pizza Kitchen than really just paying for the food. Most of the Pizzas cost about ten dollars while the salad and soups cost close to six. If I am going to pay six dollars for a bowl of soup, it better be extraordinary! For the quality of food received, I feel that California Pizza Kitchen is overpriced. Of course it depends on what is ordered but as a whole the food costs too much. Paying six dollars for a salad that was not fresh left me with a bad feeling about the restaurant as a whole. It makes me wonder that id the salad is not fresh than the meat is probably not fresh either and that is a big problem because food poisoning these days is no joke.

If it were my choice, I would never go to California Pizza Kitchen but my friends seem to really like it. If you do go though, there are a few things that I would recommend the BBQ chicken pizza, BBQ chicken salad, artichoke dip, and the Rosemary chicken sandwich. You may get caught in a situation where you are forced to go, but if you stick to these few items, you'll be fine. The restaurant itself was not that bad but the food is not that good and the prices are too high. I was not overly impressed with the atmosphere to the point where it made up for the bad food, so I doubt I will be going back any time soon.

The effect one person can have on another can change the fate of someone's life. In the novel A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens' use of this simple concept of influence highlights various elements such as characters, images, places, or conflicts. Madame DeFarge and Lucie Manette are two examples of two characters who opposite effects on people in this novel. Through the use of influence, Dickens emphasizes the different effects Madame DeFarge and Lucie Manette have on people.

Madame DeFarge shows the element of influence through her words and actions. Whether it is her husband or a group of strangers, she has quite a negative effect on the lives of others. Madame DeFarge is shown as bloodthirsty and eager for the French Revolution to take place as soon as possible. Mr. DeFarge in the beginning of the story is reluctant to the idea of taking away innocent lives. Madame is able to change the view of her husband to something of a more negative nature because of her strong character and dominant views on the revolution.

Madame DeFarge not only affects Mr. DeFarge, but also the mob. Upon the news of Foulon's capture, a wealthy man who once declared that if people were starving they should eat grass, the revolutionary mob led by Madame DeFarge and the Vengeance, her partner in crime, sets out to meet Foulon the capture him. Upon tying him down Madame states, "'See!' cried madame, pointing with her knife. 'See the old villain bound with ropes. That was well done to tie a bunch of grass upon his back. Ha, ha! That was well done. Let him eat it now!' Madame put her knife under her arm, and clapped her hands as at play" (). Madame uses these words to excite the revolutionaries to mutilate of this man. These words change the views of the mob into a having a passion for the destruction of other opposed to no real interest at all. In turn the crowd explains, "the cause of her satisfaction to those behind them, and those again explaining to others, and those to others, the neighboring streets resounded with a clapping of hands" (). Through the power of Madame DeFarge enrages the mob to have a passion for the French Revolution. Through Mr. DeFarge and the mob, Madame DeFarge affects people to do things they would not normally do- kill. These thoughts she places in people's minds are harmful and vengeful and affect them to do things horrifying.

Differing from Madame DeFarge's negative influence on other people, Lucie Manette does just the opposite. Through her smile she brings to the room, Lucie Manette brings joy to whomever she encounters. In the beginning of the novel, Lucie Manette brings happiness to her father, Dr. Manette, life by helping him recover to better health. When Lucie first saw her father at the DeFarge's wine shop, she enlightened Dr. Manette with her love from there on. Lucie stays with her father and makes sure to meet his every need. She transforms Dr. Manette into a new person.

Lucie Manette not only affects her father in more ways than one but she always helps transform Sydney Carton into a better person. Carton tells Lucie about his troubled life and how it has amount to nothing stating that he will never live a better life than the life he lives now. Lucie, however, brings light to his speech and reassures him that he could amount to something great. Lucie question Carton with these words, "Since the state of your mind that you describe, is, at all events, attributable to some influence of mine- this is what I mean, if I can make it plain- can I use no influence to serve you? Have I no power for good, with you, at all?" (155).

With these kind words, Lucie tries to help Carton in asking him if there is any way that she can influence him to see the better things in life. Lucie brings joy to Carton's life and to everyone she sees. For Carton states how much Lucie has made him happy, "O Miss Manette, when the little picture of a happy father's face looks up in yours, when you see your own bright beauty springing up anew at your feet, think now and then that there is a man who would give his life, to keep a life you love beside you!" (156). Through these words Carton describes how Lucie influences his and her father's life for the better. Lucie Manette's positive affect on people change their lives for the better.

Lucie Manette and Madame DeFarge both affect people's lives in different ways. Lucie changes lives in a positive way, giving people a renewed strength inside of them and a reason to live. Madame DeFarge on the other hand, affects people's lives in a more negative way, encouraging them to kill and destroy human lives. Dickens uses these two characters to show the opposite effects people can have on others. Through the words of one person, someone can power another to do anything even kill .

The N.A.A.C.P.

For African Americans, the N.A.A.C.P. has been a long standing organization that fought long and hard to ensure that the voices of African Americans all over the United States would be heard. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded on February 1th, 10 by a multiracial group of activists. Initially, they called themselves the National Negro Committee. The founders were comprised of black and white leaders. Ida Wells-Barnett, W.E.B. DuBois, Henry Moscowitz, Mary White Ovington, Oswald Garrison Villiard and William English Walling were the pioneers that started it all.

The premise that all men are created equal, initiated the tireless efforts of people of all races, nationalities and religious denominations. They were united for one cause. As I was growing up, I remember hearing many things about W.E.B. DuBois. Of all the names listed as the founders of the NAACP, his stands out the most. I decided to take a look at his life and learn more about his contributions to the NAACP.

William E.B, DuBois was born in 1868. He grew up poor in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. After completing high school, he enrolled in Fisk University. From there, he transferred to Harvard University, where he graduated cum laude. In

185, DuBois was the first African American to earn a P.h.D. from Harvard. There he taught history and economics. DuBois was a strong advocate for higher education for blacks. He founded the Niagra Movement in 105. This organization would be a precursor to NAACP, which was founded in 10.

In 110, W.E.B. DuBois left the university to become the NAACP's only black officer. Ironically, he was fired from the NAACP in 148 for his outspoken views on foreign policy. The government indicted in 151 for being a Soviet agent. Eventually, he was found to be innocent of those charges. He joined the Communist Party of the United States in 161, and later that year was invited by the left-wing president of Ghana to live there. William became a citizen of Ghana where he died in 16 the eve of the historical civil rights march on Washington.

Another name that stands out for me as an African American woman is Thurgood Marshall. I can remember learning things about him and the plight for justice and equality before, during and after the civil rights movement. Thurgood Marshall was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 108. He graduated from an all black high school. At the age of 16, he enrolled in Pennsylvania's Lincoln University, the nation's oldest Black College. He finished first in his class of 1 at Howard University Law School. After a short time in private practice, Thurgood Marshall moved to New York to become staff lawyer for the NAACP. Thurgood Marshall served as director and chief counsel for the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. He won most of his cases in front of the Supreme Court. His is

most notably known for his victory in the 154 case of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. He persuaded the court to unanimously declare segregation in public schools. When I think of this, it brings chills to me. It seems quite absurd to actually be in a time and place where all men are not seen as equal. I can't fathom being in a separate school from some of my fellow students!

The unanimous decision by the courts was a precursor to the civil rights movement of the 150's and 160's. Marshall won six other Supreme Court cases which lead to the desegregation of public parks, swimming pools, local bus systems and recreational facilities. President Lyndon Johnson appointed Mr. Marshall to the Supreme Court in 167. He was the first African American member of the Supreme Court. Unfortunately, health reasons forced Marshall to step down in 11 from the Supreme Court. He died in Washington, D.C. in 1 from heart failure.

W.E.B. DuBois and Thurgood Marshall are two leaders that stand out for me when I think of pioneers who left behind a legacy that we all have a responsibility to recognize and carry on. Equality for all men and women is the ticket to everyone being free. Free from the binds of racism. As I perused the NAACP's website, I was amazed at the hundreds of contributions they have made to the plight for justice and equality. While it would be difficult to discuss all of them in a class presentation, I decided to list them at the end of my paper as they appeared in a timeline. Here is a quote from the website "The history of

the NAACP is one of blood, sweat and tears. From bold investigations of mob brutality, protests of mass murders, segregation and discrimination. While much of its history is chronicled in books, articles and magazines, the true movement lies in the faces----black, white, yellow, red, and brown---united to awaken the conscientiousness of a people, and a nation. This is the legacy of the NAACP!"

Macbeth is a well-known Shakespearean tragedy with elements that are easily identified and illustrated on tragedy throughout the play. The main aspects of tragedy that I have encountered in the play are a protagonist (Macbeth) who is of noble birth and holds good fortune approaches a tragic flaw leading him to his misfortune and death.

Macbeth, being the protagonist seems to possess a good fortune at the beginning of the play. He is an honored and valiant Scottish hero who has just won his greatest battle against Macdonwald and the Thane of Cawdor, the traitors of his king, King Duncan. The king upon hearing the news of Macbeth's victory, names him the Thane of Cawdor

No more that thane of Cawdor shall deceive

Custom Essays on English THe major

Our bosom interest go, pronounce his present death,

And with his former title greet Macbeth.

(I.II.7-75)

Macbeths courageous fighting earns him a reputation of a brave warrior. Soldiers glorify him "...For brave Macbeth-well he deserves that name..." (I.II.18). He is complimented by his colleague, Banquo "Worthy Macbeth…" (I.III.16). Furthermore he earns respect from King Duncan "O Valiant cousin! worthy gentleman!" (I.II.6). Unfortunately Macbeth's good fortune alters as he stumbles upon the three evil witches.

After this encounter with the witches the news arrives by the kings messengers telling Macbeth of his new title, the Thane of Cawdor. At first Macbeth considers if the witches' first two prophecies became real then their third prediction would become accurate and he would be king hereafter without his need to interfere with his destiny. A good illustration of this is when Macbeth speaks to himself aside after receiving the news of his new title

If chance will have me king, why, chance

may crown me,

Without my stir.

(I.III.154-156)

This is where Shakespeare begins to outline another factor of calamity in Macbeth. Macbeths tragic flaw activates after Macbeth is encouraged and manipulated by Lady Macbeth to take charge of his future and seize the throne by killing King Duncan. Macbeth was exceedingly ambitious and had a tendency to struggle controlling it. A decent demonstration of this is when Macbeth confesses to himself that it is his ambition that insists on carrying through with the unthinkable deed

That tears shall drown the wind. I have no spur

To prick the sides of my intent, but only

Vaulting ambition, which o'erlaps itself

And falls on the other.

(I.VII.5-8)

Macbeth compares his ambition to an over-eager horse rider who tries to jump onto his horse's saddle, but instead he leaps over the horse landing on the other side because of his over-eagerness. He is meaning that perhaps his ambition is beyond its genuine need. Eventually he decides that 'chance' needs some assistance, so he prepares to murder Duncan and interferes with his good fortune.

Macbeths fortune changes from good to bad. After betraying and murdering his king, his guilty conscience grows on him and he becomes fearful of his actions being discovered. He becomes paranoid about his throne and in order to protect his power he decides to murder his friend Banquo because of his knowledge. Macbeth now having two murders on his mind becomes an unreasonable man whose guilt grows as fast as his greed. His bad fortune continues as he decides to kill Macduffs family. His tragic flaw grows and he becomes more fearful of his throne so eventually he visits the three witches again to confirm his current authority. The evil witches warn him of Macduff, tell him he will not be harmed by a man born of woman and promise him that Macbeth will not be defeated until Birnam Wood moves towards Dunsinane

Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! beware Macduff;

Beware the thane of Fife. Dismiss me enough.

(IV.IV.77-78)

Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn

The power of man, for none of woman born

Shall harm Macbeth.

(IV.IV.85-87)

Macbeth shall never vanquish'd be until

Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill

(IV.IV.100-101)

Ironically Macbeth sees these predictions as positive ones. Slowly the prophecies begin becoming accurate as soldiers camouflage themselves using the branches of Birnam Wood and move towards Dunsinane to attack the Macbeth's throne. Macbeth also hears the news of his beloved wife's suicidal death. Tragedy strikes, as Macbeth's fortune continues being unpleasant.

The last and final element of tragedy is the death of the protagonist. This is well illustrated by the death of King Macbeth. The last prediction comes true and Macduff who wasn't born of a woman, instead ripped from his mother's womb, kills Macbeth. Before he dies, Macbeth says, "…it is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing."(V.V.8-0) Referring to the emptiness in his life. He knows he is going to die. He knows of his tragic downfall in his life.

Major Paper # , Orange County

Orange County is a great movie because it depicts the trials of being a teenager, the good times of teenage years, and has a happy ending like any great movie. In Orange County, Shaun Brumder, the main character, experiences different stages in his life in only a short amount of time. Shortly after the death of his friend, Shaun realizes he needs to change his life to become something great by moving away, and then he has to face the fact that he may never leave the horrible city of Orange County. Finally he realizes he is good enough and so is his family and friends to start his career in his home, Orange County.

Shaun is determined that the only way for him to make something out of his life is to get out of Orange County. Shaun spends high school only concerned about where the biggest swells of waves are and getting high with his friends. In Shaun's Junior year, Lani, a surfing friend drowned after being pounded by a giant wave. Shaun was grieving at the beach and noticed a book by Marcus Skinner resting in the sand and read it completely over the next few days. The book inspires Shaun, who previously wanted to become a pro surfer, to go to Stanford and become a writer like Skinner did. Shaun writes the story of his life, includes his friends and his crazy family and sends a copy to Stanford. The people in his life are believed to be pulling him down because his friends are losers, and his family is clingy and destructive.

Therefore, Orange County can't possibly be a place for a great writer to come from according to Shaun. His dad is unsupportive because of what Shaun's high school life had been like, and he is only concerned with his cheating twenty something blonde Barbie wife. Shaun's mom is so dependent on Shaun, the idea of him leaving causes his mom to cry and drink, which is all she ever does. Lance, his older brother in his late twenties, lives at home, and is on probation for selling drugs; however, the drugs are constantly in his room. Ashley, a wild, animal activist is Shaun's girlfriend who also is unsupportive of his new decision to change and become a writer. His surfing friends don't want Shaun to leave because then they will lose a surfing buddy. All of this convinces him to send an application to Stanford so he can leave and be taught by Skinner.

Next Shaun goes through bad scenarios that make him realize he may never leave Orange County. He couldn't believe that he would have to stay in Orange County for college, so he didn't. His high school counselor sends the wrong transcripts to Stanford, preventing the "shoe in" from getting an acceptance letter. Nevertheless he even invites prestigious members from Stanford to his home, and his family has to try and prove he is worthy enough to go to their college. Everything imaginable goes wrong, his hung over brother and hammered mom destroy this meeting. Furthermore ruining any possibility of his acceptance. It's beginning to look like fate is telling Shaun to stay at home but he does everything to ignore it, he even drives to Stanford to convince the Dean of Admissions he is right for the school. Events with this meeting also go wrong, continuing to prove that Shaun is meant to stay in Orange County. He takes a walk around his dream school that is never meant to be, and finally Shaun realizes this

Hornke

sad fact. He feels sorry for himself and gets a little depressed about the idea of still having to live with his family.

On the way to get his girlfriend and brother to drive back to Orange County, Shaun sees Skinner and stops him to talk. Skinner had read Shaun's story and tells him that it isn't finished, he wants to know what happens to all of these inspiring characters. Skinner had made the point to Shaun that if he insists of leaving Orange County, he will not be a great writer because all of his inspiration will be lost. It was then that Shaun finally saw the light. All this time he didn't want to go to Stanford just to be taught by Skinner, he wanted to go so he could run away from his life back home. Shaun now knew that it was all right to attend college in Orange County, and still become a great writer, without having to run away from his bizarre but inspirational family and friends.

Clearly Orange County is a great entertaining movie because of the lengths it goes to teach teenagers a lesson. The lesson is to deal with problem's head on and to have enough perseverance to find a way to get through it. We learn this from watching Shaun finish his Senior year in high school and go through all the experiences and changes he did. People realize that it's important not to run from whatever your problems are. Shaun shows this when he realized he didn't need to go to Stanford but he can still become a writer and live with his family.

The first piece of material I gathered was a picture via the internet.

This picture is of the River Rouge assembly plant in Dearborn, Michigan.

This picture shows the manufacturing of the fender for a Ford Motor Company

product. It also shows the facilities of the Rouge plant and how the plant

it self was state of the art.

This plant was the largest of its kind at the time of its construction.

The Ford Motor Company at the time was one of the leaders in labor

relations. This picture shows the size of the plant as well as the working

conditions in the facility.

When viewing the photograph you can see the array of pipes and collection

devices to aid in the circulation of air and the collection of dust and

other by products made in the plant.

The next component I found is another picture of the interior of the Rouge

plant. This picture is one of many conveyer belts in the plant. This belt

is moving engine parts from the engine assembly to the final assembly.

Henry Ford was a pioneer in the use of the assembly line in the automobile

industry, and the Rouge plant was the ultimate in that use of the assembly

line. This photo shows the depth of the plant, being able to manufacture

all components of the cars without having to ship parts to or from other

locations in the country.

The next collection of photographs is of the exterior of the Rouge plant.

These photos were obtained from the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.

These pictures are of the Rouge during the switch of all production, from

the Highland Park plant, to the Rouge. It was also the time that the Model

A was beginning production.

This collection shows examples of four exterior views of the plant, allude

to the many different factories within the Rouge plant. The Rouge was a

steel mill, a foundry, a power producer and, an assembly line. This all

encompassing idea helped ford relegate all aspects of the production of

their product.

Along with the exterior, the interior showed the extent of the all

encompassing Rouge plant. The interior photographs, which were also care

of the Henry Ford Museum, show more factories within the factory. For

example, the four photos in this collection display metal forming, and

metallurgical operations. These pictures included forging, the blast

furnaces, removal of slag and, even salvaging scrap from metal ships.

The interior had two collections to view and the second reaffirmed what the

first portrayed. The second collection displays more metal working

production including the hydraulic shear, which was used for sheet metal,

the open hearth ladle and the hearth building. These photos gave an

impressive direction of the inner workings of the Rouge plant.

As said before the Rouge was the largest manufacturing complex in the

nation when it was built. An aerial photograph of the plant reaffirms that

fact. The photo was taken in 10 and you can see by the photo the plant

is very impressive. The caption that accompanies the picture gives an

actual figure of the Rouges square footage, the total is 6,5,484 square

feet.

Before the Rouge plant Fords main manufacturing plant was Highland Park.

The Rouge and Highland Park were similar in the way of utilizing the

assembly line to produce the Ford product. Many collections of photos were

found of the assembly line at Highland. One collection shows the final

mating of the model T, which is similar to the final mating of the model A .

Also the one day production of the Highland Park plant, which was dwarfed

by the Rouge one day production total.

The next collection of Highland Park photos displays the typical procedures

in installing components to the automobile. Each of the four pictures

shows the installation to the car. From the engine to the tires the same

principles that were used at Highland Park were used at the Rouge plant.

The final piece of material that was compiled through the search of the

Internet and other sources was the National Historic Landmark of Michigan

web page. This page has a link to an informational page on the Rouge plant.

The plant is listed as a national landmark since 178 and a Michigan

landmark since 176. Also listed on the site is the date the property was

bought by Henry Ford and, the date all production was shifted from Highland

Park to the Rouge complex. A significant statement is given about the

Rouge on the marvel of its creation and the full integration of all aspects

of automobile manufacturing to achieve vertical integration and self

sufficiency.
