In her essay "Teachers' Classroom Strategies Should Recognize That Men and Women Use Language Differently," Deborah Tannen uses the subject of gender to reveal the differences between male and female conversational styles in classroom discussions. Tannen talks about how women tend to contribute less to hostile or debate-like conversations. On the contrary, men debate more in class because the conversational style reflects their own.

Tannen observes the classroom situation, the topic of debate and its format, and men and women's attitudes toward that topic. First, she explains that as females mature, they use the language to communicate with friends, to whisper and tell secrets. Tannen says that the "telling of secrets, the fact and the way they talk to each other, that makes them best friends" (Reid 8). She states that males are often more comfortable than females when publicly speaking. They tend to gather and communicate in larger groups related to the activities in which they participate. Tannen declares that men are "expected to use language to seize center stage by exhibiting their skill, displaying their knowledge, and challenging and resisting challenge" (Reid 8). Men are more comfortable speaking in large groups of people rather than small groups of people they know well.

Next, Tannen explains how men are more comfortable and familiar with the debate format of conversation than women. She states that "women are more likely to resist discussion they perceive as hostile…they don't ritualize opposition" (Reid 84). Women do not often quarrel for amusement as most men do. Tannen also talks about how the amount of conversation from women depends on the topic of debate.

Tannen also describes the experiment she performed in her classroom. She permitted the students to analyze their own conversations in randomly selected groups of people. This gave the introverted students the opportunity to interact and discuss their point of view without embarrassment or being uncomfortable. She was able to conclude that small-group interaction is vital to any debate class.

Although Tannen thoroughly demonstrates her knowledge of the conversational styles of men and women in the classroom, this essay is unfocused, disorganized, and uncorroborated. The main idea is clear at the beginning but begins to fade away as the article progresses. The disorganization of this essay causes the reader to wander off and lose track of the main idea. Her examples are not supported with clear, factual evidence.

Other points made throughout the essay minimize the main point of Tannen's article. Despite the fact that her essay discusses the distinction of gender in debates, Tannen spends four pages describing the experiment she conducted in her classroom. The experiment was divided into three different groups based on "the degree program they were in, gender, and conversational style" (Reid 86). The experiment is interesting, but the focus on the language and cultural differences in the experiment diminished the underlying focus. Tannen neglects to mention gender with respect to the issue. In addition to the experiment, her discussion with her colleagues distracts the reader and causes the reader to become sidetracked. Usually, essay conclusions emphasize the thesis and main idea, but Tannen's conclusion drifts quite a bit from the purpose of the essay.

Tannen's article is quite disorganized. At first her discussion is about conversational styles, which reveals what should be the topic of the paper. Then, she discusses about her conversation with her colleagues. Finally, she describes her classroom experiment. This structure jumps from topic to topic, leading the reader astray from the main idea. The disorganized format of her essay is revealed through her examples and supporting evidence of her assertions.

Though Tannen has a wide knowledge of the subject, she makes numerous statements, assumptions, and generalizations that are not supported with sufficient evidence. For example, Tannen assumes the reader has experienced or participated in a classroom debate. Also, she bases her assumptions on her classroom experience only, not that of other teachers. When Tannen does support her declarations, her evidence is unconvincing, vague, or too general. Her anecdotal evidence is tediously repetitive. In addition, Tannen's conversations with her contemporaries provide examples but fail to thoroughly support her claims.

In her article "Teachers' Classroom Strategies Should Recognize That Men and Women Use Language Differently," Tannen attempts to use her knowledgeable linguistic research to describe the different conversational styles between males and females. Not only is her essay disorganized but it also strays from the main idea and fails to provide persuasive evidence enough to support her thesis.

BREASTFEEDING IN PUBLIC

Women should have the right to breastfeed in public places without feeling intimidated or embarrassed for doing so. Breastfeeding in public is one of the most controversial issues in society today. An issue which is completely misunderstood as a disrespectful act of indecent exposure, when infact it is the most natural thing in the world. Women should have the right to breastfeed in public whenever they feel it is necessary. Breastfeeding is a healthy act for both mother and child for their well being. However the way in which a nursing mother conducts herself in public can alter the act of breastfeeding from a natural necessity to being viewed as a controversial obscenity.

Breastfeeding is a precious bond shared between mother and child. It is appalling that many public places in our modern day Australia still discriminate against women breastfeeding in public. In some cases women are even asked to leave the premises because they are breastfeeding. For example a recent survey showed that the majority of Australian restaurants and shopping centres were found to be unsupportive of nursing mothers, disapproving towards breastfeeding as they thought their customers would be offended and pushed away as they would feel uncomfortable. Which seems ridiculous due to the fact that breastfeeding in public is not in anyway illegal yet is viewed as an obscenity. How can breastfeeding be an obscenity?

Exposed breasts are everywhere, all over the media in movies, magazines even in television. But put a nursing infant anywhere near those breasts and suddenly people are offended. Do people ask women to cover up during breastfeeding or to move some place more private because the person is perhaps sexualising the act of breastfeeding rather than view it as a natural, nurturing act? For to long now women have been made to feel embarrassed for feeding their child. It is quite disturbing that in this day and age mothers are being prevented from doing what is natural. For those who are that uncomfortable-turn away!

Help with essay on Breastfeedind Women

One argument is that some women infact overexpose themselves whilst breastfeeding therefore it is understandable that some people may feel embarrassed or offended by this. Secondly some women choose to feed their child up to an age where the majority feel is unacceptable, for example a toddler who beckons to his mother to be fed on the breast could be seen as offensive. By the use of the modern breastfeeding bras now available and the simple act of draping a baby blanket or shawl over the shoulder all breastfeeding can be done in a discrete manner, whether or not the mother is in public. Respect is a two way process. A bit of discretion on the side of the nursing mother would promote more support from the general public.

It is a known fact that nursing mothers should feed their child in a calm and relaxed atmosphere. The introduction of more private rooms for nursing mothers in todays society would surely create a more harmonious relationship between the offended public, on the street and also in the workplace. But at what cost? Why should the mother feel she should be segregated from everyday life? Not only as she had to endure the huge life changing effects of motherhood but now she deemed as an unwelcome presence purely because she wants to the provide her child with the best source of nutrience mother nature has to offer. It has been proven that without doubt breast milk is by far the only best source of food for baby and not only provides every essential nutrient for the infant but will protect both mother and baby against most harmful diseases.

In addition to strengthening the bond between mothers and their babies, breastfeeding offers several significant health benefits. Babies who are breastfed have lower rates of meningitis, childhood leukemia, and other cancers, diabetes, respiratory illnesses, bacterial and viral infections, diarrheal illnesses, allergies and obesity. For these reasons the American Academy of Paediatrics recommends that breastfeeding continue for at least 1 months. This at least 1 months out of a womans life she must be dedicated to provide food whenever and wherever her baby dictates. Breastfeeding offers health benefits to nursing mothers also which include the reduced risks of breast cancer and other types of cancers, as well as osteoporosis.

As a society we must support the mothers of our country who are contributing to the well being of our nation by breastfeeding. By being more accepting of the perfectly natural act of feeding, which is no different from that which we have accepted in the animal kingdom surely tolerance and common sense will prevail and the rights of the breastfeeding mother will be recognised.

Gulliver's Travels The British Satire of Society

Gulliver's Travels, by Jonathan Swift, is an exceptional example of the attempts writers have made to bring about social reform. Jonathan Swift's stories of Lilliput and Brobdinag are placed on two extremities of culture, putting human frailty up to ridicule. Through the unassuming eyes of Gulliver, the astute reader can pick up on ideas used to delineate the troubles of British law and society. To accomplish his task, Swift threads throughout his novel creative imagery, allusion, and symbolism.

Imagery is applied in Gulliver's Travels very carefully to capture the reader's attention and play on the absurdity of the situation Gulliver finds himself in. Gulliver is in a different world, a land of beings only one inch tall and the sights, feelings, and sounds of the Lillipution's daily life is shown to be a true microcosm of British life. Swift writes,"I heard one of them cry Tolgo phonac; when in an instant I felt above an hundred arrows discharged on my left hand...they shot another flight into the air, as we do bombs in Europe."(Swift 48) Immediately, it is clear that the Lilliputions have taken on the warlike tendencies of the British imperialist. The language of Lilliput, even though it is presented as merely gibberish, has a clear military purpose like the English word fire or charge. The result of the efforts of these creatures, however, is of little circumstance to Gulliver who could conceivably "be a match for the greatest armies they could bring." (48) Like the kingdom of Lilliput, Brobdingnag also mirrors Britain, only the imagery makes the setting much more dangerous. Here a single fly is a huge disturbance that can drive a person mad. "They would sometimes alight upon my victuals, and leave their

loathsome excrement or spawn behind, which to me was very visible...Sometimes they

would fix upon my nose or forehead, where they stung me to the quick, smelling very

offensively." In a world where everything is amplified, it is hard to imagine how the most

trivial of matters is suddenly a significant force to be dealt with. Swift makes his

protagonist feel exactly the same way the Lilliputions must have felt when Gulliver could

have capriciously crushed them. This stark contrast in settings serves as a learning

experience for both Gulliver and the reader.

Gulliver's Travels has gained its label as a masterpiece because of its ability to

parallel humanity or allude to its historical shortcomings. The Lillliputian government

officials for example are chosen by their skill at rope-dancing, which the Lilliputians see as

relevant but which Gulliver recognizes as ridiculous. The representatives are literally

forced to jump through hoops in order to qualify for their positions. Swift means for us to

understand this event as a satire of Englands system of political appointments. Gulliver is

in the same way forced to defend his society in the land of Brobdingnag . In the giant's

view, Britain is a warlike nation filled with unsurpassed corruption. Gulliver manages to

maintain some sense of value in his native country in the face of the kings criticisms, but

his disputes seem so transparently groundless that each argument he gives for Englands

superiority serves only to emphasize the futility of his resistance. The kings assessment of

the Europeans as "odious vermin" is left virtually untouched.

The main way that Jonathan Swift perpetuates its message is through the use of

elaborate symbolism. Gulliver's size and strength is the largest of the symbols in Swift's

Gulliver's Travels. His physical bearing and power put Gulliver in a unique position in

Lilliputian society and give him obligations and capabilities far beyond those of the people

who keep him prisoner. The extreme power Gulliver encompasses can represent Englands

position with respect to the people it was in the process of colonizing. Like Gulliver,

England had the power to squash its foes with a single fist, but it also took a great deal to

restrain from doing great harm as Gulliver does. Size is also a symbol with respect to the

moral leanings of the Brobdingnagians and Liliputians. The Brobdingnagians are humans

who have achieved a massive level of moral achievement unlike the trivial and miniscule

Lilliputians, in whom the human vices of pride and self-righteousness are exaggerated.

The Brobdingnagians have constructed a society in which those sins are curtailed as

much as possible and they are not, as they are in England, set in the foundation of

government.

The teachings of Jonathan Swift are echoed forcefully in his novel Gulliver's

Travels. Through the use of imagery, allusion, and symbolism writers have been able to

mold public opinion and make the democracy the most desirable government of the

modern world. Perhaps Swift was the spark for the burning flame of justice toady.

Evil in macbeth

William Shakespeares Macbeth is a play in which a man by the name of Macbeth, who is presented as a mature man with an uncertain character. At the beginning of the story, Macbeths character is a character with strong morals. As the play went on though, Macbeths morality lessened greatly. After killing Duncan he was very paranoid and feared the consequences that came. In comparing Duncans murder with his best friend, Banquos murder, he was much more relaxed after Banquos death. His character shifted throughout the play. Macbeth, at this point did anything to keep his crown, even so far as to getting killed for it! Evil nature was responsible for Macbeth's as well as other characters wrongdoings in the story. Macbeth fights it and loses, and therefore, gives in to it.

The play makes several points about the nature of evil. One point it makes is that evil is not normal in human nature. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have to sort of trick themselves into murdering Duncan. First, Lady Macbeth has to beg evil spirits to tear all human feeling from her, ...spirits…That tend on mortal thoughts..." (1.5. 41-4) Stop up th access and passage to remorse…That no compunctious visitings of nature …Shake my fell purpose...(1.5. 45-47). She then makes Macbeth ignore his own conscience, Yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full th milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way (1.5. 17-1). Once she has seen her husbands ambition has been inflamed, she is willing to risk anything to help him get the crown.

It is as if she were taking her heart out to make her husband king. She has been very successful of emptying herself of human feeling. By the end of the play, both characters have been destroyed from within. Fear and guilt drive Lady Macbeth mad; Macbeth sees life as an empty, meaningless parade. His famous speech upon hearing of Lady Macbeths suicide Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow...(5.5, 17-8). This speech is less an expression of grief than it is a speech about the meaningless of life.

The second point is that evil disrupts nature itself. In nature, there is a time and a place for everything. When Macbeth achieves the crown by murder, he upsets the natural order of his life along with the order of Scotland. Without the rightful, God-given king on the throne, all of society is disordered. Under Macbeths rule, there can only be chaos and evil. Even nature

Custom Essays on evil in macbeth

becomes disturbed (the Old Man and Ross discuss all the strange things that have been happening since Duncans death, ...It is dark during the day; an owl killed a hawk. the opposite of what really happens ,Duncans horses ate eachother!... (.4. 1-1). Nearly every scene contains references to unnatural actions. When Macbeth is killed and Malcolm takes the

throne, natural order is restored.

The third point is that evil is like a disease. Like a disease, evil infects its victims and makes them sicken until they eventually die. Once Macbeth kills Duncan, he is committed to a course of lying and killing as stated in the opening paragraph. His sense of right and wrong is eaten away even before he is killed. Macbeth is dying of a diseased spirit and he knows it. ...And that which should accompany old age, As honor, love, obedience, troops of friends, I must not look to have; but, in their stead, Curses not loud but deep. (5.. 4-7).

In this soliloquy, he senses that his life is over. Scotland is also infected, and Macbeth is its disease. The longer Macbeth remains king, the worse things get. When Macbeth is finally is overthrown, the country is healed.

The forth and probably the most important point is that evil corrupts an individual and their ways. This is extremely clear in Macbeth. Macbeth being sucked into evil changed drastically, "…Every minute of he's being thrusts against my near'st of life…sweep him from my sight"(.1. 116-118). At the beginning of the play, the thought of murder made him miserable. He seems to have a conscience on what he is doing is wrong. Toward the end when evil has entered Macbeths soul and conquered him, his actions reflect the evil within him through the murders that he plots and also his lying ways throughout the play. He is willing to do whatever it takes for his ambition, even go so far to kill his Banquo and an innocent family which gains him nothing! Lady Macbeth on the other hand, had some sort of evil within her from the beginning of the story. The evil within her made her go mad and caused her to die a tragic death of suicide.

Evil, unfortunately is a very powerful force once it gets a hold of you once, its extremely difficult to let go of. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth experienced a sort of evil that would never let go until they died. Since at the beginning of the story, Macbeth gained his position as king by killing the king, they thought that performing evil acts would get them higher in life. It was sort of addicting to them. They did everything violently to get what they wanted. They paid the price with time in the play of Macbeth.

Word Count 8

A Life of Strong Convictions

I remember so vividly the events that took place that day. I was awoken by the rude sunlight seeping through my shades. I started my daily routine by taking my morning shower. Once I was done, I called my mother.

"Efrain's car broke down again so Katrina is going to pick me up." I informed her.

"That's fine, have you heard from any schools yet?" she asked.

"Nope not yet, but I should soon."

"Okay well have a good day and keep me posted."

"Okay Mom I'll let you know. I love you."

"I love you too."

As I hung up the phone I heard Katrina honking the horn. I remember calling her cell-phone to ask her what she was wearing before I picked out my clothes. I don't know why it was always such an issue for me to get other people's opinions before I made a decision. I got ready quickly throwing on an old t-shirt and some tattered jeans. I slipped into my sandals, grabbed my books, and I was well on my way.

I opened the door only to find the day even hotter and more humid than the day before. I walked down the passageway to the driveway, still wet from the night before. I opened the car door to her yellow mustang and got in. Katrina was my best friend since the ninth grade. She always got good grades and was always so sure of herself. I was often jealous of her confidence. I'm not sure how it came up or why but we started talking about college again. She started ranting about her acceptance to UCF and here I hadn't even heard from them yet. Unlike Katrina,

I really wasn't sure where I wanted to go either. She got annoyed that I still hadn't decided but I insisted that she help me.

"Please Kat", I pleaded, "Please help me figure this out."

"What do you want me to tell you, Stef?"

"I don't know, what do I do?" I questioned.

"As corny as this sounds, you seriously just need to follow your heart. You need to think about what it is that you want."

"I think I want to go away." I exclaimed.

She turned to me with a confused look.

"So then what's the problem?" she questioned me.

The answer to that question was unknown even by me. We arrived at school ten minutes late as we usually did when Katrina picked me up. I hurried down the empty hallways saying goodbye to her. I was in a daze for the remainder of the day. I thought about what she told me and tried figuring out what was better for me. Going away for school was seemingly the better choice but I was still not absolutely sure.

When school was over I walked home with Efrain, my boyfriend, as I normally did. He was talking about his car as usual but I was more focused on the mailboxes ahead of me. I stared at them unable to bear the heat any longer. I arrived at my house checking the mailbox even though I knew my grandfather had already gotten the mail as he did every morning. I made my way to my room to check my status online and that's when I saw the letters.

So many feelings filled my body at that moment. I felt panicked yet ecstatic, I felt hectic yet entirely relieved. There they were, two manila colored envelopes thrown onto my dusty desk.

I decided I'd wait for Efrain to go home before I opened them. Once he left, I sat in my messy room for what seemed like an eternity, tears streaming down my sunburned cheeks due to my confusion. I ripped open the letters one at a time and was relieved to know I had been accepted to both UCF and FIU. Then all of the feelings came back. My next move was unknown. Focusing on what it was that I wanted I started to calm down.

The night was hot and humid. My family was gathering around the dinner table in celebration of my grandfather's birthday. I'm not quite sure why I was so scared to tell them but I prepared myself and announced my decision. Contrary to what I thought, they couldn't be happier with my choice to go away for school. They knew that was the wiser choice for me.

For as long as I can remember I have never made a decision and been entirely happy with the results. My whole life I have let people influence me and at the age of 16 I was fed up with jumping back and forth between thoughts of whether the decision I made was right or wrong. I can joyously express that when I make choices now, I am sure of them. Never before have I been more confident than I am today. Choosing to go to the University of Central Florida was one of the best choices I have ever made.

Going away for college instilled a sense of responsibility in me that forced me to make decisions without the assistance of others. At first I was reluctant to accept this responsibility but I realize now the importance of doing so. I no longer waste my time at a constant battle with myself. I can confidently declare that a life of strong convictions is the life I choose to live. That choice was made entirely on my part and I am confident that choice is the best one I have made yet.

In One Ear and Out of the Other

You hear it from television, you see it in billboards, stay in school. You see people

struggle through simple everyday life because they have dropped out of school or

haven't continued on with their education. As a youth I of course did not listen but now

see the importance of staying in school.

It is my freshman year in high school and I am very excited everything is different,

there are more kids and we are considered the underdogs as they say. Nothing like that

concerns me since a lot of my friends from Junior High School have accompanied me to

High School. I should have known from the start that was going to be bad business in the

end. Everything is going fine as far as adjusting to the school but right at the closing of

second quarter I fall very ill and fell behind in my studies and this started a lot of my

troubles. I got discouraged because my grades were low and it was harder than I

imagined getting them back on track so I finished my freshman year with out of 5

possible credits. Off to summer school for me with no hope, summer school only offered

courses where you could earn a half credit which was bummer for someone in my

situation.

I have finished summer school with the hope of starting off my next school year on a

good note. I have to take a lot of repeat courses the following year and I feel like I am to

smart for this, and plus these classes are boring since I've been here done that. I initially

just start cutting class which ending up turning into no school at all, my parents worked

the local shopping centers with friends. There parents had no ideal so that made it even

better we would alternate hanging out over to each others houses for we wouldn't be just

ritual of cutting school and decide to make a change for the better.

It is coming close to the end of the first quarter of the school year and I found out

about this alternative school for youth with low attendance rates and decides to get

enrolled there. This school had been designed to help troubled youth graduate on time

through accelerated classed to get caught up in classes and stay ahead.

I stayed focus on what I was there for, I put my best foot forward and successfully

completed my school year and decided to go back to my home school which is my

original school I transferred from.

I am now back in my traditional setting High School and only a few weeks into my

suppose to be junior year I realize that the alternative school setting was better for me.

All I am able to think about is all this time I have wasted being irresponsible and

immature true I am a kid. We have responsibilities like school, which is the most

important thing in our adolescence. Even though we don't discover that until we're

older.

All my friends by now have dropped out of school or attend other schools so, I am here

alone, with no distractions which are a good thing. I am trying my best to stay on track

of graduating on time. A few months before school was supposed to end I received the

worst news, which eventually affected me in the worst way. The school district was

possibly shutting the doors to the only school in the whole city that gave youths like us

that chance we needed. I didn't let that affect me coming to school since the decision

about the school was really not final as far as we knew it was gossip.

School was getting ready to begin for the next year and the doors to the alternative

school are definitely not opening back up. Once again I find myself back in the

traditional high school with no possible way of graduating on time. To make matters

worse I find out that I am pregnant. So we are a couple of weeks in school and I am not

adjusting very well and as if I didn't have enough on my mind my father of my unborn

information on obtaining my G.E.D., after taking the test I received my diploma about a

Hellenistic Philosophy Essay

Hellenistic philosophy has evolved over the years but a few modern day people and songs reflect the age-old theories of easily overlooked intellectuals. Jackson Browne and his song "These Days" reflect two major Hellenistic philosophies, stoicism and Epicureanism respectively. Browne leads a stoic lifestyle seen in his political activism and his personal response to difficult situations; he never just went with the flow. His famous song, "These Days," demonstrates the Epicurist theory; the narrator is seeking to avoid pain in his life to improve his happiness.

Stoics and Browne both believe in humanity and justice, virtue over pleasure. Browne represents the Stoistic theories because of his never-ending expression of his opinion. Zeno, the father of Stoicism believed that a person can't control outside forces but can control their own behavior and response. Jackson Browne was not the type of person to just sit in the corner and let things pass him by. He expressed his opinions and feelings with fervor and convicting emotions. He was a political activist. He opposed the Reagan administration and America's wars in Central America. Browne lived his life as a quest for truth and tried to make a difference. He spent some time in the late seventies helping with the anti nuclear lobby. Browne was a star and he used his fame and fortune for good and to elicit a positive change. Jackson challenged "the entire apparatus of deceit that lies at the core of his culture's everyday public life." He hated falseness and he refused to be like other stars who were fake to the camera. In his music he always wrote his true feelings and never wrote poser lyrics. Stoics believe in virtue over pleasure. It is most definite that Browne struggled with his political activism. He introduced thought contrary to the majority, radical ideas. But he was fighting for justice and humanity. If he had been the only one standing in an open square denouncing Reagan's administration, he only would've yelled louder. It didn't matter if he was loved my millions. All that matter was that he made a positive impact in the world through his work. His albums For Everyman and Late for the Sky speak of the courage it took for him to go against the majority. Browne lived his life in accordance to duty, truth and justice. He traveled to Nicaragua to publicize the way the United States was subverting the revolution there. He stood up for what was right. He believed in equality for all people. Stoics believed in equality and opposed slavery. Even when faced with tragedy, for example his publicized breakup with actress, Daryl Hannah, he realized that everything happens for a reason and the struggle to move on only made his stronger. In many songs he reminds people about love and that they should never forget about it because as dangerous as it can be, the real thing is worth it all. Jackson Browne is one star that is a positive role model for fans and he should never be forgotten. He is a true stoic who also believed in what is right, not what was popular.

Jackson Browne's song, "These Days," demonstrates the Epicurean lifestyle always seeking happiness. The song speaks of a person who has been through some hardships in life and is seeking freedom for them. He is seeking to be free from pain. Epicures, the father of Epicureanism, believed that everyone should seek happiness and that happiness equals pleasure minus pain. The only way to achieve personal happiness is to decrease the pain factor. In the song, Browne writes, "And I had a lover/ It's so hard to risk another these days." He is saying that he doesn't want to fall in love again because of the pain that comes with it. He is staying single in order to avoid the pain, decrease his pain factor. He may be missing out on something really wonderful but he doesn't want to risk the feelings of pain. Epicureanism was all about being happy. The deepest pain was fear. Browne writes, "Now if I seem to be afraid/ to live the life I have made in song/ well it's just that I've been losing so long." The person in the song chooses to be passive and sit on the sidelines instead of jumping into the spotlight and living a life filled with the fear of failing. Once again the character is decreasing his pain factor in order to achieve happiness. Browne always played of the work of his predecessors and here he does it with the Hellenistic philosophy of Epicureanism.

In conclusion, the Hellenistic philosophies are different there first meanings but their essence is still used and believed in today. Jackson Browne's lifestyle and music reflects the theories of Stoicism and Epicureanism. He's constant struggle for good, humanity and justice and his poignant lyrics about quests for happiness are what made him into the musical legend he is today.
