Age discrimination is an employment problem that is becoming more evident as economic conditions weaken. Employers who think they can eliminate older workers from their workforce and save costs of retirement programs, and higher salaries have been enlightened otherwise by the growing number of lawsuits that have been won over age discrimination. and that the age limitation was a BFOQ. The court determined that mandatory retirement based solely upon age is arbitrary and that chronological age alone is a poor indicator of a person's ability to perform a job.


The ADEA provides protection for older workers by deterring employers from stereotyping the older workers ability to keep up with a fast paced work environment, or the ever-changing workplace. In the case of Parrish v. Immanuel Medical Center F.d 77 (8th Cir. 16) the plaintiff sued her employer and received damages of $4,46.0 when she was not allowed to return to her normal job as a registrar after suffering a short illness. Parrish's employer alleged that Parrish was slow and incapable of adjusting to a new computer system although it was evident that she along with several younger employees in her department were all experiencing a learning curve with the employers new computer systems and Parrish was the only one who was taken out of her position. Revolution is the most powerful move that a group of people within a country could ever make. A revolution is usually sudden, noisy, confusing, and frightening; it is what people do when they have reached their tolerance limit under a certain group or government. The pigs seemed to assume leadership right away because they were more intelligent than the other animals. After a revolution a society constructs rules or commandments to obey so that the society is organized. In Animal Farm the pigs constructed the seven commandments, which were to be closely followed by all of the animals. The beginnings of all revolutions are positive and progressive.


After a new society has settled, gradual changes start taking place, and in the end everything is the way it was before. The first change is that no one can really agree on a certain leader. There is arguing between the dominant leaders about who is in charge, and who is to make decisions. Finally there is one leader left, because he was smart enough to overthrow the other(s). In Animal Farm, Napoleon and Snowball never could agree with each other. Each wanted to be the dominator, but neither could accept working together. In the end, Napoleon gets his trained dogs to chase Snowball off. Next, the new leader of a society starts taking more blessings than needed for himself, while the society gets less than him. The leader uses the persuasive powers of others to allow himself, and others like him to get away with such things. This happens in Animal Farm, when Napoleon takes the milk and apples away from the other animals and uses them for the pigs. Furthermore, Squealer, a pig with persuasive skills, tells the other animals that this is okay because the pigs need better food, due to the hard job they have. The leaders get lazy and stop working, but continue to make the others work hard. Traditions of the society stop. Trained government agents are used to make people back off if they protest or suspect wrong doing in the society. For example, if the animals didn't want to do something, the pigs would say "If you don't do this, Jones will come back." Traditions, such as no work on Sundays, committees to improve the society, and special group meetings were stopped. Also, Napoleon's trained dogs would always keep an eye out for troublemakers within the society. Eventually, the leaders of a society start trading with the enemies to get needed supplies. Harsh conditions are once again thrust upon the society, but not the rulers. The dominators start breaking the rules, and then bending and changing them; as a result they get what they want. Finally the leaders start forming relationships with the original enemies and they become leaders together over the society. Toward the end of Animal Farm, the pigs start trading with humans to get needed supplies. They reduce the rations of food for the other animals and they also make them work harder. The pigs disobey the commandments and then change them to make it look as if the pigs had been right in the first place. They start practicing all of the things that humans did. In the end, the pigs and the humans come together to form one ruling power over all the animals. These are the gradual changes that start taking place after a new society has settled.

That qualification did not find its way into the prospectus for last years rights issue. Reynolds has been at loggerheads with the tax office in relation to fringe benefits tax and disallowance of claims for deductions in relation to employee benefit plans.

The overall tone of this poem depicts women as slaves rather than companions; implying that a woman's place is in the kitchen "Ah but men don't slice onions in the kitchen, seldom see what is invisible." (Roberts, pp.70)


Marge Piercy author of A Work of Artifice, writes about a young bonsai tree that collapsed when lightning struck it, "on the side of a mountain till split by lighting." (Roberts, pp.7) A man then picks up the tree and brings it home. The man raises the tree. He keeps clipping and binding the tree so that it will grow to be only nine inches tall. This tree has the potential of growing up to 80 feet. The poem then shifts to talk about how women had been "pruned" (Roberts, pp.7), by "binding their feet, curling their hair and somehow crippling their mind." (Roberts, pp.7) Much like when women could not vote, get an education or even have an every day job. Women were made to think or persuaded to think that they were the smaller and weaker being. Viorst writes about a woman in a marriage, being opposed to speaking of the marriage as a burden or bondage, she makes it seem like it is a healthy relationship, one where both she as well as her husband sacrifice for each other. When I think about what has shaped my life, I realize there are many things. My immigrant parents and the way they raised me has shaped me into the person I am today. The environment I live in has produced opportunities such as attending college and getting to travel and see the world. As I really think and look back at my life, however, one experience in particular has irreversibly changed me and my outlook on life. This life changing time was my rowing career.


I attended a Catholic College Prep School. In the very first weeks of my freshman, year I was introduced to the sport of rowing. Before this time, I hadn't heard of or seen much about the sport, so I was somewhat hesitant. One of my friends had been rowing for about a year already and she tried to inspire me to try it out, so I did. My obsession with the sport sparked instantly. Without any rowing experience at all, I tried out and made the team. I had no idea that this would be the launch of a now unforgettable, lifelong passion.


As my novice season progressed, coaches and parents said I developed into "one of the most talented freshmen the crew team has seen in years." My excitement and enthusiasm seemed to grow as quickly as my strength. In the following months my novice eight person boat won a few races as well as lost a few. The outcomes of the races weren't nearly as impressive as the leader that I saw my shy, timid self turn into. The end of the season rolled around and with it came the end of the school year. I was happy to relax and enjoy my summer, but I was also eager to start a new rowing season. I was filled with determination and drive to make the upcoming season a winning one.


As the summer ended another crew season began. I, along with thirty other returning freshman, were now sophomores and no longer on the novice team. The next month was filled with grueling, daily, four hour tryouts for the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. I was really happy with the progress I was making, but now surrounded by many more experienced and older rowers, my competition was stiff. Nonetheless, my hard work continued day after day because I had my eyes on making that Varsity boat. After the month of tryouts, the line-ups for the upcoming races were posted, and I made that esteemed boat.


My time in the varsity boat was nothing like I had ever imagined it. I was rowing with junior and seniors that had traveled the country competing against other teams. They had such maturity and a high level of understanding for this sport. They were quite tough and intimidating, but took me under their wings and taught me so much. While my coaches prepared me physically for the changes and demands I was facing, my older teammates prepared me mentally. They taught me about attitude and mental strength. They taught me that so much of sport is mental and not just physical. I learned that your body has limits but you mind doesn't. If I really wanted to reach my goals as a rower, I had to first and foremost prepare myself mentally, and tell myself I was capable of anything.


My team and I were learning so much and it showed. It was visible in our practices and most of all it was visible as we competed against other teams. The fall season had ended much more successfully than the last. Our boat had become one entity, one unit. We couldn't wait to get the spring season under way because we knew that with more work came potential to become one impressive, note-worthy boat.


Soon enough, the work started once again and we had one objective that was above all, to win the Midwest Scholastic Championship. The season progressed and our coaches were pushing us to limits I never thought humanly possible. The work load started to rapidly increase and at times I questioned what I had gotten myself into. It was at these times of doubt when I truly learned the most about myself, my work ethic, and my life. While growing up I heard many times that to make your dreams and aspirations come true you have to believe in yourself- nothing instilled this in me as much as my rowing experiences. After some of the physical tests I went through, I believed I could do absolutely anything if I just put my mind to it, and I still do to this day. The people that I was surrounded by were a pillar of my strength. I learned how much the environment around you and the attitudes of the people among you shape a person's life. My coaches and my teammates taught me that I was capable of anything; all I had to do was work hard and believe in myself. Never in my life was I part of such a resilient, dedicated, and powerful team.


The work continued, as did our victories. It was now two weeks before the Midwest Championships and we were going into the competition undefeated. We had fourteen days left to practice, and we counted each day as a step closer to success. Race day came quickly. We advanced in the preliminaries, we beat our heat, and then we went on to win our semi-finals. The hour of the final came, this hour that we were waiting and preparing for for so long. We started to realize how close it truly was as we put the boat in the water and rowed up to the start. My heart was pounding as we glided by the screaming crowds. We finally got to our staring dock and waited for the other nine boats in our final. It was now a minute from the start as the announcer blared from his bull horn. The count down would start in fifty-five seconds. I counted each second in my head like it was my last. Then we all heard the announcers voice over the noise of the crowd "5-4---1-Ready all, ROW!" The flag went down and that signaled the beginning of our starting sequence. The rest is history.
