Traveling to places where you have never gone is very exciting. Life itself can be described in terms of a journey. There are pitfalls along the way that one must learn to avoid, dangers that must be talked about and exciting new things to learned. One of the ways authors talk about a journey is in a travel writing. Jonathon Swift and Wu Ch'eng-en used the travel writing to tell two different types of stories. The characterization of the minor character's of the Yahoo's and Pigsy in their respective stories, are similar in their view of how passions need to be controlled but very different in their reasons of why such passions are bad.

During the Enlightenment in Europe people were taught that the body is controlled by two opposite forces passion and reason. Reason was employed to control the rashness of passion. Jean-Baptiste Moliere believed that one should try to moderate his or her passions so they don't take over one's life Hugo 5. People consider passion as very worldly. It shows an emphasis on our lives and the world around us. It screams, This is important! Passion is powerful. We use it for emotions that are based on value-judgments. Whether its love or hate, joy or anger, we experience it in response to what is important in our lives. Reason tempered the hot emotions of passion. People devoid of this tempering quality were thought to be on a spiraling path down. The Eastern cultures also had a similar point of view of on the idea of passion. The Buddhist religion teaches that passions must be controlled to achieve true nirvana.

In Gullivers Travels the reader is taught about the danger of uncontrolled passion. This passion is represented by the actions of the Yahoos. Presented to us as an uncivilized bunch, they have nothing even resembling reason. Yahoo's choose their leaders from the most uncouth and deformed. Whenever they feel the need they have sex or lounge in the dirt and mud. Their passions make them worse than animals. Even the word yahoo in the Houyhnhnm language even means ill quality Swift 470.

In Monkey uncontrolled passion can not only make one worse than animals but also has the power to reduce the character to a animal state. Passions seem to turn the character Pigsy into less than human. His character flaw makes him grow ugly. "...His nose began to turn into a regular snout, his ears became larger and larger, and great bristles began to grow at the back of his neck" Ch'eng-en 1. Pigsy like his name suggests resembles a pig. His greediness has caused him to take the form of a animal. Pigsy's main interest is in satisfying his lusts. He symbolizes the physical appetites, brute strength, and lack of patience. When he becomes a priest it is because he must, not because he wants to. "For if we don't bring off this scripture business, I shall turn layman again and live with you as your son-in-law"Ch'eng-en 7.

The purpose the two author's had for creating their minor character's are very different from each other. Swift's Yahoo's were used for a political purpose. Swift wanted to show the wrongness that prevailed in the English government. In the story Gulliver explains to his master about the English government and other governments in the same vicinity. He describes at length the practice of law, who can be considered as nobility, the realities of war and other human actions. "I endeavored to give him some ideas of the desire of power and riches; of the terrible effects of lust, intemperance, malice, and envy"Swift 451. Because of his narration, Gulliver slowly comes to the realization that the Yahoo's were almost the same as the people he came from. He can see that he is all too easily controlled by passion and not very well by reason. "I could no longer deny that I was a real Yahoo, in every limb and feature" Swift 465. This satire filled discourse helps the author show what he feels is wrong with the world he lives in.

Wu Ch'eng-en did not use politics as his purpose, instead he wanted to show a religious point of view. Buddhism has respect for all things alive. There are a hierarchy of alive things from insects to Buddhas. All creatures human and beasts have good seeds and bad seeds within them, the whole goal of life is to cultivate the good seeds in order to acquire a higher level in the next life. Buddhism believes in Karma. This is the belief that what you do will come back at you, good or bad. The Second Enlightenment of Buddhism teaches that excessive desire begets suffering. The suffering of birth and death as well as the leading of a weary life are all caused by greed. Few desires along with no craving make our mind and body comfortablePrince. Pigsy is used as a example of the way one should not be. Pigsy's constant love of money and worldly possessions is not fitting of a Buddhist monk. His love of money allows him to be tricked and fooled. "'If I steal a treasure... I expect more than a petty, skunking share. The treasure must be mine'"Ch'eng-en 56.

Passions in Monkey and Gulliver's Travel's are portrayed both in a similar way and yet different. In the two travel writings, even the minor characters are alive with the currents of passion. Through these stories we are shown that passions have the power to reduce the humanness in one's self. They prove to us that it is better to control one's passions and use reason when possible. However the reason for one to do for so is disputed. The reader is delighted with the characterization of the Yahoo's and Pigsy what ever the reason. Works Cited

It is mans nature to make sense of the vast, diverse reality we are in. We need to understand the essence of every moment we experience, every person we communicate with. We philosophize and strive to find truth and meaning from this wild whirling world that supports our existence. And from this stems how we perceive ourselves and others to beour personality, our identity.

A huge part of this wild whirling world is our media culture. Its omnipresence provides a world in itself, an environment from which we humans draw the materials to form our identity and means of channeling self-expression. Media has become such a big part of our reality that for many, the difference between fantasy and real life has been blurred (Reyes, 18). No doubt about it, media has seeped through our everyday living. Slowly, insidiously, it has given us access to everything, anytime causing moral paranoia all over due to the fact that suddenly it is difficult to distinguish the boundaries between morality and the aesthetic license.

The causal effect of television violence on aggression, even though it is not very large, exists (Eron, 1). Television, among other forms of technology such as video games and cinema, mediates violence and makes it seem more immediate, exposing viewers to levels and forms of violence they might never otherwise encounter (Bok, 18) The emergence of virtual reality enables a player to feel the excitement of a real killing. On the other hand, it may serve as a channel for aggression. The player may not foster such seething personal hatred for the enemy on screen. To him the main goal is simply to attain the highest score possible. Killing off people like in Duke Nukem or Doom or Counterstrike may have the same mechanics and achieve similar satisfaction as a wholesome pop-as-much-ballons-as-you-can-with-a-dart game at the carnival. One technology is simply more of an aggressive nature than the other. On one hand, aggressive kids get a healthy channel for their aggression, on the other, media violence may serve as a trigger for that aggression. Whatever level or type, for whatever reason it is patronized, technology has aided in the pervasiveness of media adding to its power of influence.

From here, social paranoia grows and many have debated over whether just how strong the influence of media in human existence is. We theorize to find if violence in society is truly a product of media and we work to find the interconnectedness between its tools of expression and our way of life (Notes in class, 00). Should violence in media be censored?

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Hooray for Violence

Theories

The Diffusion Theory seems to dilute the paranoia of censorship. According to this theory, an idea (the message) has to go through a lot of other materials and factors that sizably affect the public's process of discerning (Notes in class, 00). This makes media not as powerful as how the hypodermic need le effect portrays it to be. Other agents in the viewers' environment mediate the flow of the message and obviously color it to mould the viewers' moral character. These may be, among countless others, education, exposure from living quarters, religiosity, the types of people we interact with and events we witness. The viewers' process of decision making, according to Diffusion, would be highly affected by culture and upbringing.

If one were to defend the issue of censorship, this then would be contradicting. This is because it precisely states that violence in media is only one of many factors that can bring about aggressive behavior from human beings.

It is in this context that censoring violence in our country is not necessary. Although, I find that it is a more pressing concern that the type of audiences watching it must be closely monitored and regulated. Violent media content should go hand in hand with proper guidance from authoritieswho should watch who.

Another good theory to support anti-censorship matters is the Uses and Gratification. According this theory, children, adults, Filipinos, black people, human beings of all sorts do what they want with media and not so much the other way round. This largely mutes the influences of media on the public, although it cannot be denied that there will always be, to some extent, some amount of influence. There seems to exist a vicious cycle where media violence makes children more aggressive and these aggressive children turn to watching (or for video games, "take part" in) more and more violence to justify their own behavior (Eron, 1). But again needs are met depending on what social context one is coming from.

Violent action flicks and the Philippine Society

In the Philippines, violence is not as much a source of heated debate as films with explicit sexual representation. Recall the bruhaha that came about when The Piano or Schindlers list was to be shown in Philippine theaters. On the contrary, when Saving Private Ryan or Bad Boys II came out with all its fabulous gore, we barely heard a peep. We hear a lot of rape cases that start with the viewing of a porno film. None yet about murder sprees by a bunch of juveniles after watching big bellied Eddie Garcia romp his weight around in Sisimba Ka Na May Bulak sa Ilong. The truth about it is, perhaps our violent films are not violent enough to spark anything as dramatic as, say, the Columbian Massacre. It does not seem to be much of a threat. On the other hand, these types of films do hold significant statements of our Filipino culture and humanity. It may reveal our warped perceptions on what the ideal isour heroes are renegades and our women are mere sex icons that do their bidding. In a way these films do become a threat as they create false ideals of what is the macho norm in society, cultivating cases of wife-beating, rape and other such things.

Coming out of the Philippine scene, we could take a look at the film, City of God, for another example. Its cast is made up of real people who actually lived in such a hellish violent world. The reality of their performance effectively pulled audiences into their bloody universe. This is what makes City of God a socially revealing and shocking film. Violence is a social reality. And violent films, though larger than life, reflect our type of culture and society. If it takes an orgy of blood, exploding heads and flying torsos to shock audiences into realizing the value and dignity of human existence, then so be it.

Educational Software Evaluation

The level of technology has increased and continues to increase at a rapid rate in the world around us. It would be nearly impossible to find a profession or career that has not been radically affected by technology in general, and more specifically the computer. All professional fields, from diagnostician to dairy farmer have seen computer technology playing larger roles in their day to day functions. Among our many responsibilities as educators is the need to help our students be prepared for what awaits them in their future roles in society. Denying the tremendous importance of technology use in your classroom and as a teaching tool, is denying an aspect of your role as an educator and an aspect of student's needs. Facing up to the challenge of integrating technology in the classroom and in our curriculums presents several problems.

If we agree as to the important role of technology in modern education, we must further admit that there are at present great problems with the integration of technology into the general curriculum of schools around our nation. Education for the instructor deals with the art of imparting knowledge in a subject area and grade level in which that instructor is adept and competent. More importantly, teachers function as a guide to the students "discovery " of said knowledge. Educators, philosophers, scientists and psychologist alike have long pondered over effective methods of teaching and on how humans acquire and apply knowledge. The computer has only emerged as a factor in educational objectives relatively recently. Because of its "newcomer" status the computer has yet to find a sound, firm resting place in classrooms around our country and with teachers and administrators in the schools. Many teachers and schools have accepted the fact that computer technology is important to their students but are just not sure how the technology should be used.

Some teachers who have worked in education for many years, have gained experience with what "works" in their classroom. They have had success with traditional methods of instruction and assessment, and have prepared their classrooms to function around those methods of teaching with which they are comfortable, and with which they believe their students enjoy success. Teachers who fit this description may resist or even resent the suggestion of integrating new technology into their classrooms "If it's not broken why fix it" is an adage that describes this type of resistance.

Do my essay on Educational software evaluation CHEAP !

Other educators, already overwhelmed with the daunting tasks involved with preparing lessons, grading papers and tests, preparing for mandated assessments and general classroom management, see the introduction of computers and new technology into their classroom as one more stone piled onto their delicately balanced scuttle. They respond like the character Scotty on the original Star Trek episodes when Captain Kirk has requested that he make the Enterprise move faster "We jus can't duh' it captain, we haven't got the power!"(read with Scottish accent) is how they may be thinking.

Still others have a desire to integrate the newest technology but simply have not been properly trained to do so. Because of our busy schedules, large workloads and familial obligations, it is extremely difficult to find time to become computer literate. With technology changing so fast it is time consuming to keep up with the latest trends not to mention learn a whole new language and set of commands and functions. These teachers might respond "Computers, I'd love to but I thought a laptop was the place where my cat sleeps!"

All of the aforementioned attitudes are cute simplified versions of real problems that exist in the minds of educators in different variations and extremes. All are also completely valid and deserved to be adressed. The solution however is not so simple. Even as school districts and educators around the country are working on integrating technology into the classroom in a smooth and agreeable fashion the dilemma remains What do we do with it once it is there?

The effectiveness of computers as stepping-stones to real learning has everything to do with how computers are used in the school. Just as in traditional lessons keeping students on task, setting goals, objectives, and outcomes and providing for assessment are essential. The pedagogy involved in the use of computers in classroom or lab lessons may vary greatly from more traditional methods, therefore extensive training is integral to any technology plan. I am of the opinion that any district that spends millions of dollars on new technology and little or none towards offering training to teachers is wasting their money. The mere presence of technology is not enough to provide the best learning experience for our children.

Having qualified leadership in administrative positions with regards to technology is now an essential to every school. Very often a big problem with the integration of technology into the curriculum stems from the decision-makers themselves. Administrators and board members in schools around the country allocate tremendous funding for technology plans with every good intention of bringing their school or district up to speed with the technological world. Without much prior experience and without a proper template to follow, the plans are often flawed. Commercial firms and salespeople often steer districts in directions that may not necessarily be the best for their particular school but will result in a substantial profit for their firm. Many schools have already created technological administrator's positions. This position should be appointed to an individual with the student's best interest in mind and a tremendous amount of knowledge in the field of computer technology. This person would also hopefully provide guidance and advice to all technological purchases that district had planned.

Aside from finding sufficient funding, the main problems schools around our country face in integrating new technology in the curriculum is in teacher-readiness, proper teacher-training and sound technology plans from the administration. Adressing these in no simple task but with time, cooperation and the overall needs of students in mind, educators will rise to meet this challenge.

Colonial America Religion and Wealth

Colonial America can best be described as a place for a new beginning. Most early settlers of what would later become America, colonized the area, in search of wealth and moral purity. They all had one dream, one goal, one aspiration, and ultimately one major concern, and/ or ideal upon arrival to the "New World" and that was to connect every aspect of their life. They wanted to form a connection between political status, employment, recreational activities, their religious foundation, and its' subsequent beliefs. Reports of the economic success and religious and political freedom of the early colonists attracted a steady flow of new settlers from all over the world. They came with similar objectives and goals as the previous colonists, and they to were seeking new found success in the "New World." The Puritans came to the colonies to seek wealth and riches, as well as the freedom to practice religion as they saw fit, as opposed to the almost communistic religious beliefs they were allowed and forced to practice under the British rule.

Jones

In the early Colonial America period religion played a major role in a lot of its' new founder's lives. Many groups ventured off to the new land of wonder on dangerous and risky voyages to escape persecution for their religious beliefs, which were not tolerated in England. The Puritans came to the "New World" to erect a "City Upon a hill" that would serve as a model for the rest of the Christian world. The goal they strived for in order to make this city successful was to create the perfect, pure society where there was no sin and God ruled completely. More or less so, they were attempting to create a euphoric society. Their first action they took in order to reach this goal was to put the church in control of the colony. Sometimes people were not allowed to question what they were taught and if they did so they were punished accordingly. They did everything in their power to keep this dream alive. They created strict laws and enforced them vigorously all in the name of God. It was destined to fail because of the growing political liberty in England and the numerous advancements during the age of enlightenment; which eventually came into direct conflict with established Puritans beliefs.

Along with religious motives many of the new founders came to the colonies seeking wealth and material success. With rising unemployment, several harvest failures, and other economic conditions in England, the decision of many colonists to migrate to the colonies was made easy. The new founders looked upon the American colonies as a place where they could buy land or find employment and eventually, and ultimately better themselves as people. This new land which was not ran by Parliament, was a way for the "common man" to make a name for himself. As a direct result of land being offered for

free, or at such a low cost to the majority of the newly declared colonists, it became one of, if not the, greatest economic attraction of the World. They took their land and built farms to harvest crops, which were sold overseas. Other settlers planned to make a profit from their colonies and to expand English trade and industry. They advertised for settlers and brought to their attention that fertile land and valuable resources were available in the so-called "New World." Land ownership also provided people with independence and a promise that both them and their families could partake in the better standard of living offered by the vast expansion of the "New World." "By the early eighteenth century the great families built large mansions and modeled their lives on the English rural gentry" (APS Reader, p.5). The economic aspect of Colonial American society was centered around trade and barter. This was of significant importance as Americans saw many different trades in their communities.

Although the majority of the new founders came to America to settle on their own and to seek a better life, some of them had no say so in the matter. Prisoners in the overcrowded England prisons, African- Americans, and Native Americans are some of the different groups who were involuntarily imported to the "New World" to provide settlers with "free" labor. The Colonial period marks the beginning of slavery in North America. Slavery was a lot more prosperous in The Southern colonies than The New England Colonies. The southern new founders had large plantations and crops that needed an enormous amount of labor and tending too, then say the tobacco and rice crops up north. Even though slavery was perceived as being brutal and barbaric, many different colonies

Jones 4

established vague rules and regulations regarding the protection of slaves. The Virginia's Statutes 1705, Chap. XLIX, section VII states "That all masters and owners of servants, shall find and provide for their servants, wholesome and competent diet, clothing, and lodging, by the discretion of the county courts…" Slavery continued for many years. Ending in a dispute between North and South to abolish it. Little did colonists know what started as a minor disagreement would soon take many lives and become the greatest war ever fought amongst Americans, which all started by the human desire to prosper and gain wealth in the "New World."

Most Europeans knew that by coming to America they would be forced to endure

and hopefully overcome obstacles, barriers and undoubtedly danger; however, they were also aware that the "New World" offered the opportunity for a new start in every intimate aspect and specific detail of their life. Some of the new founders, or colonists were already well endowed but saw America as a place where they could gain power and extremely prosper. To an elite group of new founders it was not just wealth but gentility that they craved (APS Reader, p.5). Many others yearned for success and numerous died doing it, but by the mid-1700s, most colonists had achieved the goal they were striving for upon arrival to the colonies and were conquering and expanding the land we know today as the land of the free and the home of the brave --"AMERICA."

Introduction

In this Essay I'm going to review two official football clubs websites, Leeds United FC and Derby County FC. The reason I have chosen this type of site is because I'm a keen sportsman and enjoy football. I don't support either Leeds United or Derby County but feel associated with both teams as I'm at university here in Leeds, and my home city is Derby. Therefore Im I can criticize and admire the design without being bias.

Firstly Im going analyze 'Leeds United' site then 'Derby County' The areas I will be looking into are

•Navigation

•Style / Design

•Layout

•Advertising

•Colour Scheme

•Contents

•Download time

Leeds United FC Official Website

When the address is entered into the browser an 'enter page' appears which asks if you would like to play football in a competition at 'Elland Road' following the more details link you come across a page where the viewer can enter a team into a six-a-side tournament, but for the pleaser of entering a team you have to pay Leeds united £1000. This I feel is a waste of time as most people visiting the site will be the younger generation and therefore won't be able to find that amount of money for a competition, and this all before entering into the main site.

When I finally got into the site I was bombarded with flashing text and advertising, this I didn't like as it distracted me from what I wanted to look for, like team information fixtures and results. From this advertising I found it hard to navigate around the site. The navigation probably isn't that bad but the way in which the advertising is placed is makes it look unpleasant.

In the top right hand corner there is a quick links bar which consists of 6 links, Fixtures Striker, online stores, new tickets betting and latest news. This is a nice idea but I thought it was a hard to find, all of the above are also placed on the very long site map on the bottom left hand side of the home-page. There is a total of 4 links on the main menu which I feel is far too many and looks unprofessional. Some of the more important links could be put into pictures and placed somewhere else so they stand out more and make it easier to navigate around the site. When one of the 4 links is clicked you then get more menu which drops down, this just looks cramped and dense. The less important links could be put into a JavaScript menu so when the mouse moves over the menu extends, this would make the site more user friendly.

The overall design and style of the site is poor. There is no feel of professional design, or thought into the menus and tables as they are all over the place. The site has been centralized which some times is necessary and can look first-class but in this instance just looks overcrowded and teeming with information.

As I have already said there is far too much advertising on the site, some of this is for 'Leeds United' products like the 'Leeds United Store' and other sponsors of 'Leeds United'. The Ladbrokes advertising is fairly productive as it allows the viewer to see what the odds are for the different scores and outcomes. On the right hand side you can actually see what you would win if you placed a bet on a certain score. I like this as it useful and constructive.

The colour scheme should really match the clubs colours, white yellow and blue. I don't feel that the amount of white space is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. If the main colour was blue it would stand out more, and the other two colours could be used subtlety in a way that would look pleasurable.

The Contents of the Leeds United Site is enormous it covers everything any fan wants to know from the 'history' of the club and Elland Road to 'live Commentary' and 'Interactive Information'.

The download time for the site in general was pretty fast even though there is a vast amount of flash on there,

Derby County FC Official Website

When the page loaded up on my browser at a glance it looked very professional with the black background, picture of 'Pride Park' and a graphical look to it with the grey / silver table out-lines. The site has more order to it than that of the Leeds United site, with a clear menu on the left and news headlines down the middle.

The navigation around the site is simple and easy to use. The menu on the left hand side is condense and to the point. On some of the links a drop down menu appears which helps to organize the menu and doesn't allow it to become cluttered and chaotic like that of 'Leeds United'. With this site it has been made with a center frame this is very effective and works well within most browsers. One problem I have with the main navigation menu is the text used; I found it hard to read as the text is small and in a very strange font. It would be better if they kept some continuity throughout the site.

The design of the Derby County site looks professional and skilled; it makes the viewer believe that the team plays football in this way (which isn't true). I really like the way on the right hand side you can look at the next match, league table, fixtures and results and squad details, without much effort in the same frame. There is only one piece of flash on the site this is in the form of a news bar at the top giving a vast amount of information at one click. This looks elegant and helpful.

The colour scheme works excellent, the team's main colour is white same as 'Leeds United' but they chose to use black as their main color and white and yellow in the layout.

There is advertising in the site but not too much, it works well within the layout and doesn't distract from the main object of the site.

The content of the site is also of good quality it has everything, you as a fan would want to know about the club.

Download time is fairly quick; you have to wait a while to play the penalty shoot out but only 15-0- seconds on a 56k modem.

Reality Dating Shows The Now and Then of this Phenomenon

The phenomenon of dating shows has swept over the nation. We turn on the television out of boredom or out of loneliness, and think that by taking an interest into someone else's private dating life will give us some kind of peace about our own pathetic ones! Dating shows have become the most common reality television within the past year (cited in TV guide, 00). With a variety of selection dating, from singles talking over a cup of coffee, to the multiple group dating which humiliatingly zeros down a lucky man and women in which they share the victory of an already chosen date just for them! Although this ever so popular dating addiction we have all become so prone to is take over evening television, as we know it today, it is far from a new phenomenon.

Take a trip down memory lane. During the 150's and 160's, dating shows were very common, not as common as they are today, but just the same, people took a similar interest into the dating world of others. The Dating Show airing from 156-187, was the beginning of it all. This show was set up as a game show more so than a reality show. There was a selected person who would be seated in a hidden area, so the various dates couldn't be seen. The "picker" would get to ask a variety of questions to the #1, , possible dates, and the lucky one, in which the picker felt most in common with, would win the game! The prize would be a personalized date set up by the television station. With the unbelievable take off of this show's success, many other television stations began to create their own original takes off this hit. This sensation grew rapidly duringthe160's-180s. The public's interest took a positive look into this new possibility of reality dating. Boredom was just beginning to hit the public with the repetitive, stereotypical shows in which families were placed in predictable situations in everyday life. This became a problem for television at that time. There was a cry for variety, and something needed to happen to revitalize the reputation of television, (Marsten, 1). With the creation of the reality based dating shows slowly emerging during the 60's- 80's, a revelation of public dating was established.

It seems as though the newest craze in reality TV is romance/dating shows. During the 10's-000's, we have been introduced to a multitude them. Theres Dismissed, where someone goes on a date with two people of the opposite sex simultaneously, and then one of the prospective dates gets Dismissed. Another would be Blind Date, which comes complete with thought bubbles, reminiscent of VH1s Pop-Up Video, that provides irreverent commentary on how the date is going and what the people on the date might be thinking. Elimidate is like Dismissed, but with twice as many people. In Change of Heart, each member of a couple goes on separate dates with other people, and then they come back to each other to see if they want to stay together now that theyve had a taste of something better. And theres Fifth Wheel, where two couples go on a double date, and then a fifth person-maybe a previous lover or even a celebrity-is added to the mix, (www.online-dating-service-guide.com/hot_shows.htm). What a growth from the generations before!

There is no doubt about it that within the last ten years, television has gone through, many different changes. Remember the days of innocent viewing? Families could all gather around the TV and watch a program that suited the entire family in a magical way. It seems that those days have slowly faded away. We are bored with the same old sitcoms. Ever since the dating show revolution began, we have definitely seen a variety of new programs created to grab our attention in a way we have not been alerted before.

Can you see the pattern of fewer and fewer values being blended together over the years? It's like we don't care about the fact that we are rudely nosing our way into other people's lives. Relationships should be based on a privacy enjoyed by the viewing of the two individuals alone, rather than two-million viewers publicly. Looking back into the beginning of the dating shows, values seemed to be a lot more evident. Getting to know a person involved asking series of personal questions in which to gain a common bond between one another, versus the reality of today's shows in which skips the common threshold and moves right in for the sexual kill! The attraction is what is solely used as bait in the shows of today. Don't get me wrong, it is important to be attracted to a person in considering any type of relationship, but when that is the strongest connection between the two, then there is bound to be a shallow outcome. In the dating shows of the past, there is a very definite line drawn out in indication to a healthy and hopeful connection between the couple. After an episode of any given reality show of the present, we can almost predict the outcome. The two, already given up to their most common association, the alcoholic beverages they "got to know each other" over, will more than likely give themselves away to each other over the next few days- the extent of their relationship- without even knowing the scope of each other's background information. According to the statistics almanac (Wagner, 16), it is stated that 0% of set up couples either put together through television dating programs, or good old fashioned blind dates, are going to walk away from the experience with nothing but a feeling of wasted time spent with a person the have absolutely nothing in common with. Unfortunately this is the outcome we are given to take part in, but hey, its only television right? That stuff isn't put on there to project reality, but rather stereotype it, and we all feed off of it, because its not us we are watching make complete fools of ourselves- it's complete strangers! In that case, it seems to leave us with a clean conscience of the fact that we are meddling in others relations!
