Achievements mean different things to different people. To some people, an achievement is obtaining an award that shows they are better than the rest of the competition. To others, it is meeting a personal challenge that they set for themselves. To me, it's a little of both. I also want to be able to have fun and enjoy the ability that I possess and have worked hard to develop. An achievement is something to be proud of, whether it is acknowledged by many people, or just yourself. One achievement I am very proud of is my Division All Conference award. But it is not just the award that I am proud of. It is the work and effort I put forth to obtain this honor, that makes me proudest.

The first time I ever picked up a tennis racquet was in the summer of seventh grade. My friend and I were bored so we decided to grab the two rusty old racquets we had in our garages and head down to the courts. Since it was our first time, we were terrible. The longest rally lasted three hits and usually ended with a complete miss of the ball or an extremely inaccurate shot onto the adjacent courts. We didn't come prepared either. Our two bright minds decided to bring only two balls. Safe to say we did more chasing then actual hitting. The only aspect of tennis that my friend knew anything about was serving. He had learned how Pete Sampras serves in an article located in one of the tennis magazines his father had. My friend was unsuccessful with this style of serving, but it worked very well for me. Even though what my friend and I played that day could hardly be considered tennis, I developed a liking for the sport and decided to continue playing by joining the school team. The racquet I showed up with at the school tryouts was terrible. It was heavy, had a broken string, and didn't have a handle. Instead of buying a new handle, I wrapped it with duck tape. This turned out to be a bad idea because when my hand became sweaty, the racquet would fly out of my hand, sometimes sailing over the net. I also realized that I was one of the only kids on the team that never took lessons before. With all these disadvantages in my corner, I was still able to make the team. From this point forward, I knew I had an untapped ability for tennis.

Each day I worked hard to be better at the sport that I enjoyed playing so much. When ninth grade came, my goal was to make the Varsity tennis team. I worked hard but was unable to achieve my goal because I wasn't a polished player. Even though I had ability, aggression, and desire, I didn't know many of the technical things that a Varsity caliber player would need to know. Instead, I became first singles on Junior Varsity and was team captain. In addition, I knew I was a lock for Varsity in tenth grade. This was the year of two of the three biggest achievements in my tennis career. I made Varsity and became second doubles. Our team won the Division Conference Championships against our rivals, Glen Cove. My partner and I also were named All Division. We were very proud of this award because we worked so hard all year. Since our team's record was very good, we moved up from Division three to Division two. This was a much tougher Division and would challenge my team and me greatly. Even though our team struggled, my partner and I achieved great success and were able to obtain the highest recognition possible, All Conference.

Even though I've obtained awards and honors from tennis, they are not my greatest achievements in the sport. The thing I am proudest about is the experiences, friends, and enjoyment that I've gained while playing tennis. Many of the relationships that I have today with coaches, friends, and girls are because of tennis. It is a sport I love and even though this is my last year playing it competitively, I will always remember the years I enjoyed playing with the team and the fun we had together. What started out to be something to do on a boring day turned out to be one of my passions and talents that I am proudest of today.

It is important to realize a couple things about the restaurant industry, for those who do not know a lot about it. It is different from other industries in terms of hiring. There are always applications coming in from prospective employees, especially in a larger, high volume restaurant. Because of this, the managers are always looking at applications, and the potential for interviewing and hiring. You do not wait for someone to quit or change their schedule before you start to look for someone new. It takes time to go through the selection and interview process, and then the training after that. In a restaurant, the goal is to have your staffing levels appropriate to your sales volume. So, if you wait too long to interview and train, you may fall short of your proper staffing level. This could ultimately lead to not having enough servers to work at any given time, which could in turn lead to bad service for the guests. It all goes back to staying ahead of the game when it comes to interviewing.

Applebees uses applications as the basis for screening potential employees for interviews. The manager may look at things like previous experience, availability and flexibility to determine who may have the best fit for the job. The manager would look at all the current applications, and interview the people that most closely fit the needs of the restaurant.

The interview process is very structured at Applebees. There is a first interview, done by the service manager. There are four sections of the interview, within which the manager can pick two or three questions from the list provided for them. The sections of the first interview consist of action orientation, composure, teamwork, and guest focus. The manager will rate the answers in each section from one to five. The manager adds up the scores from each section to get a total, and would then determine whether or not to proceed with the interviewing process.

The next part of the interview process is a test, the SQ-II (service questionnaire, second edition.) This is a test of 150 yes or no questions. The test is given to see if applicants answers correlate to those that have proven to be successful in customer service and guest relations. The 150 questions are rated using five areas drive and energy, sociability, emotional consistencey, accomodation, and acceptance of authority. The manager translates the answers into a five letter code. This code is then located on the summary interpretation table. This is a very detailed table, which tells what type of characteristics the person may have, and how well they correlate to success in this industry. At this point, the manager must again decide whether to continue on with the interviewing process, depending on their scores on the test.

Cheap University Papers on Recruitment and selection plan

If continuing on, this is when the reference checks would be done. Then the applicant would have a second interview, this time with the general manager of the restaruant. The questions asked during the second interview are based on the specific tasks of the server position. Again, the manager will be asking two or three questions from the list provided for them, in each of four sections. The sections in the second interview include interpersonal effectiveness, integrity and trust, humor/work attitude, and suggestive sales. The manager would rate the answers on a scale from one to five to find a total score for the second interview. At this point, the person would either be offered a job, or be told they will be contacted by mail or phone within the next three to seven days to be told the results.

As you can see, Applebees has a very detailed and structured interviewing process. They have learned to spend time in this process early on to try to find the right person for the job every time. Why go through orientation and training for someone who will not be there next month, simply because the fit wasnt quite right?

How Comfortable was the Cabinet War Rooms?

If you order your research paper from our custom writing service you will receive a perfectly written assignment on How Comfortable was the Cabinet War Rooms?. What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Before answering the question of how comfortable the cabinet war rooms, I will discuss the meaning of comfortable. Comfortable can be talked about in relative or absolute terms, relative is when you discuss how comfortable a place is in comparison with other places and realistically what could be in a place. Absolute is when you talk about how comfortable the cabinet war rooms in comparison with how comfortable it could be in your wildest dreams, ignoring the facts that it still had to be effective and that they were in use during the World War with strict rules on food and lighting etc.

From visiting the cabinet war rooms, I can see that in context with the rest of London at the time, they are quite comfortable enough in relative terms to still be effective. However, this evidence is unreliable, as several installations have been added to add to the comfort of the visitor. For example, in the primary evidence from Olive Margerison, she mentions how it was very stuffy with a very poor ventilation supply and how she would always try and leave as often as she could. In the modern Cabinet War rooms, an Air conditioning system has been installed so you cannot imagine how it would have really been like.

From other evidence from Olive Margerison, she mentions how the facilities for lower ranking staff were very 'Spartan'. She said the ventilation 'left much to be desired' and how she felt the Cabinet War rooms were 'Not luxurious, least of all luxurious'. This evidence can be taken as reliable as it is a primary source, but she is very old and her memory is fading so you cannot take her evidence as absolute truth. In the Cabinet War Rooms today it is 'not safe' to see the lower ranking officers living conditions so this shows that it cannot have been too pleasant to stay down there. She also says of how she always had to bring her own bed linen.

Custom Essays on How Comfortable was the Cabinet War Rooms?

On the positive side, she does say that the comfort 'didn't matter' as they 'crashed out' and were 'absolutely worn out'. She also says that she was aloud to go out and this was fairly flexible, this is good as it creates a good working environment and this adds to the comfort. She also said the lighting never failed, there were regular health checks and that she made good friends which was 'Absolutely wonderful'. From her interview she seemed to say that it was a pleasant working experience as friend brought her in and that they were all very good friends. This evidence may only be partially reliable as she picks up on this a lot more than the discomforts. She says that it was always efficient and effective and this is linked to comfort as if somebody is relatively comfort they work well without having too many disruptions. From her evidence you get a very clear sense of a very friendly working atmosphere.

From the booklet, we can see that the docks were very cold. Low ceilings, limited ventilation, plain walls, no plumbing and very scare plain bedrooms. This would have been uncomfortable but from the interview with Olive Margerison we can see that this did not matter to the staff. Upper staff living upstairs had it much easier, from the image of Winston Churchill's bedroom we can see there are pictures on the walls, proper toilets, wallpaper and general homely effects, this is very different from the lower staff's rooms.

In conclusion, I can see that the cabinet war rooms were physically uncomfortable; there was a poor ventilation supply, cramp living condition and a generally very uncomfortable place to work. However in relative terms, the cabinet war rooms was comfortable enough to allow it to be successful and effective. There is also a very clear bond of friendship and pulling together in hard times coming out of the interviews with the staff. Thus I can conclude that the Cabinet War Rooms was comfortable enough for it to be effective.

IF YOU COULD TRADE PLACES WITH ANYONE IN THE WORLD, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?

DO YOU WISH YOU WERE DIFFERENT? (i.e., taller , stronger…)

At times we all wish we were different had different looks, different family… different gifts and talents…so did P.J. Funnybunny. Let's read his story…

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on What's My Destiny?

READ STORY

WHY DID PJ WANT TO LEAVE HOME? à because he had to eat the same meal everyday, too many siblings, & big ears. So, he had problems with his looks, with his relationship with his family, & same ol' meal. DO YOU HAVE ANY OF THESE SAME ISSUES/STRUGGLES?

PJ 1st wanted to be WHAT? à a BEAR. WHAT WENT WRONG THERE? à couldn't sleep not very exciting.

PJ wanted to be WHAT NEXT? à a BIRD. WHAT WENT WRONG THERE? à he couldn't fly.

PJ wanted to be WHAT NEXT? à a BEAVER. WHAT WENT WRONG THERE? à lazy he didn't like to work at all.

PJ wanted to be WHAT NEXT? à a PIG. WHAT WENT WRONG THERE? à he didn't always like to sit in the mud.

PJ wanted to be WHAT NEXT? à a MOOSE. WHAT WENT WRONG THERE? à couldn't make good moose calls.

PJ wanted to be WHAT NEXT? à a POSSUM. WHAT WENT WRONG THERE? à hanging upside down gave PJ a headache.

PJ wanted to be WHAT NEXT? à a SKUNK. WHAT WENT WRONG THERE? à didn't like living with them - the awful smell.

WHAT WAS PJ'S MAIN PROBLEM? à He took himself and his life for granted. He had a great life and just wasn't aware of it. Also, when PJ "became" the other animals, he gave up being a bunny (because later he says that he was glad to be a bunny again). Over and over he tries to be someone else this never works always be yourself. When you try to be someone other than you really are, problems will ALWAYS occur. When he didn't like something or it got tough, he would quit….

DESCRIBE THE OTHER ANIMALS (including his own family) THAT TOOK PJ IN? à they all welcomed him and accepted him and took him in despite being so different…what a great example for us!

IF YOU WERE ONE OF THESE OTHER ANIMALS, WHAT WOULD YOU THINK WHEN PJ WOULD LEAVE YOU FOR GOOD? à "I thought you wanted to be one of us…we're not good enough for you…" OR "We're glad you wanted to be 1 of us. Thanks for trying, but you just weren't created to be 1 of us…" At 1st I thought the other animals were sad/shocked to see PJ leave but they end up following him from place to place and are very happy that he is at home, so they weren't too upset.

WHAT MADE PJ COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT HE REALLY WANTED TO BE A BUNNY?

When PJ got back home, WHAT DID HE DO/HAPPENED? à the very things he did before he left ate carrots, played with all of his siblings, & looked at his big ears. His circumstances didn't change, but his attitude & perspective did.

WHAT HAS GOD CREATED YOU TO BE? à to be His to be human for all eternity; holy and pure and righteous…

God places a lot of value/worth/significance/importance in each of us. WHY?

·God created us.

·He created us in His image (READ GENESIS 16-7).

·He made us a little lower then himself or angels READ Psalm 8-.

·Jesus died for us he bought us with his blood (READ ACTS 08)

·We have God in us His Spirit (1 Corinthians 61-0)

·Being a saved and faithful Christian God looks down and see the blood of Jesus covering us He sees Jesus; therefore, we have great value.

If we were honest, we all have a search for significance of wanting to be somebody special/important. We want to be remembered and admired. God has a plan for each one of us à READ JEREMIAH 11-14a.

PJ took off in search of what he really wanted to be. WHAT DID HE FIND OUT? à that the best thing he can be is what he was created to be.

WHAT HAS GOD CREATED YOU TO DO? à READ EPHESIANS 10. We are God's "work of art" His masterpiece and we are to do good things to serve and to love…God created us the way we are for a reason…and that reason is to glorify Him (John the man was born blind).

An Analysis of An Inspector Calls

J.B.Priestleys An Inspector Calls is a well-made play that attacks the social mores of his time; it contains all the ingredients of a well-made play, this is because it is captivating, and it holds the attention of the audience. It achieves this by the use of climaxes, the slow unravelling of the plot and the use of the detective-whodunit style.

Despite this Priestley is concerned with the darker side of Capitalism. An Inspector Calls is Priestleys call for reformation. Priestley sees the nation as a society with communal, rather than individual responsibilities. The members of the Birling family are only concerned with individual gain and profit over person. They are responsible for the young womens death by treating her as property, and it is this lust for material wealth that Priestley speaks out against.

An Inspector Calls is a well-structured and well-made play because it contains many factors that captivate and sustain the attention of the audience.

Help with essay on an inspector calls

One of the factors that makes the play captivating is the use of climax, the way it holds the audience all the way through, building up slowly, gathering the plot as it goes on and then finally ends in a stunning climax, for example the way the Inspector extracts small threads of information from the members of the family and slowly puts the picture together and narrows it down to the main culprit as the climax.

The whodunit genre keeps the audience guessing all the way through the play, and as clues are solved and stories are unfurled the culprit becomes clearer, but as soon as one thinks he or she knows who it is Priestley cleverly seems to switch to the inspecting of another character. This makes the audience engrossed in the action that is happening on-stage.

The mystical appearance of the Inspector when the Birlings are having a celebration party, and Mr Birling is giving a speech on how the modern man should live, then eerily the Inspector steps in as almost as he was instantaneously opposing the views of Mr Birling, this seems to bring up questions of the inspectors background and who he is, as even the local constabulary have never heard of him.

But An Inspector Calls is more than just a well-made play, it is a play that attack the social mores of the time. In the time of Priestley people only seemed to look after themselves, their time and attention was not spent on the community, but on themselves. There was hardly any communal spirit or common wealth But the way that some of these cranks talk and writ now, youd think everybody has to look after everybody else as if were all together like bees in a hive, community and all that nonsense

The Inspector in the play is a mysterious man who comes and goes without a trace and seems to have no background. The Inspector is a channel for Priestleys views and criticisms on the social mores of the time. The Inspector is a contrast to the Birlings as he seems to favour community responsibilities rather than individual ones. The Birlings represent the richer people in society that do not care for their fellow people in the nineteen tens, for example Mr Birling sacked the girl Eva Smith for striking for a higher salary, but the demand was minuscule. They are set so far away from the community that they did not even realise that Eva Smith had died, let alone how the helped to kill her, they find this out only when the Inspector brings it to their attention.

Even though An Inspector Calls is a very well-made play Priestley really tries to hit home the importance for care of your neighbour. Priestley was a socialist in his time, unlike most of the people around that time who were only interested in monopolising and individual gain. Priestley believed that everyone should either share their wealth or at least help the needier. He thought that the continuing monopolising of the system would be immorally wrong and selfish.

And I tell you that the time will soon come when men will be taught it in fire and blood and anguish.

A buyer and a seller agree on price and exchange a commodity. Then, if the seller is working for the government, the buyer is thrown in jail and convicted to serve, say, 10 years with a $10,000 fine; if the buyer is working for the government, the seller is convicted. The government bargains with the convict for his life, liberty, property, and pursuit of happiness, if he will incriminate himself or any other buyers and sellers he knows. The government, with judicial stamp of approval, then spies on these other persons or breaks into their homes. It can use electronic eavesdropping, secret agents, search and seizure of person or property, bribe witnesses, set up a false business in the commodity, or examine all information (especially records of financial transaction) public or private about these persons. Finally, if the government gains any evidence, after thoroughly penetrating their privacy, that one of these persons (or anyone else they run across) ever possessed the commodity, used the commodity, handled money exchanged for the commodity, committed any action involving the commodity, they can convict that person to spend years in jail, pay fines of thousands of dollars, seize his property and business...and, of course, seize and destroy the commodity.

The Punch Line The commodity is a particular psychoactive chemical identified in legislation.

Most Americans will accept that punch line as sufficient explanation for the actions of their government. To the rest of us, who have not had our day in the media, the punch line is at best ironical humor. It speaks to us of outrageous injustice, official deceit, and ignorant apathy...of fundamentally false dogma. The prevailing party line in America has indoctrinated our society in an extensive mythology about DRUGS. Drugs are immoral and destroy the spirit...Drugs are harmful to our children and to the fabric of society...Drugs are responsible for organized crime, theft, and violence. Most Americans take smug comfort from what they are offered by the mass media. They see that only the poor, minorities, mobsters, or a few token entertainers are caught by the police. They hear every so often that new scientific evidence proves illegal drugs dangerousness. They are given stories of incredible depravity, horrendous corruption, and lives destroyed all because of drugs. They easily acquiesce to public officials or editorialists who express the unassailably righteous condemnation of drugs. All this with cigarette or beer in hand...

Most of the prevalent attitudes about drugs range from poor perspectives to misrepresentations, contradictions, or simply falsehoods. One common perspective treats illegal drugs as a distinct class of evil, harmful substances. This attitude, for instance, is expressed when a comic strip about a shiftless alcohol addict (Andy Capp) is humorous and popular, while a hypothetical equivalent strip about a heroin addict would bring howls of outrage and condemnation for corrupting young minds. This even in spite of the fact that being a heroin addict does not necessarily ruin lives, cripple the addict, increase crime and violence like alcohol addiction does - exactly contrary to the establishments representation. A more profound understanding of the drug problem, and consequently better policy concerning it, follows from realizing that attitudes toward drugs fundamentally contradict other attitudes. A most important contradiction is that drug laws violate the most basic beliefs in individual rational autonomy - freedom to choose for oneself how one behaves and what one does with his own body. Ultimately, the drug problem does not concern only a few illicit drug takers. Every American who pays taxes for the requisite police state, who knows someone harmed by drinking or smoking, who cares about his freedom to behave as he chooses will be affected by the current policy. After a review of the major arguments and evidence, the drug problem will appear to be aggravated and usually caused by drug criminalization. The repercussions of the current policy and social attitudes lead quickly to authoritarianism.

On September 11, a horrible tragedy stroked America. It was when two hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Towers, which lead them to collapse into gravel and dust. Now that President Bush knows what happen, he is now waging war with Iraq. What will happen if decided on going to war? Will citizens still have rights/freedom or will they pt restrictions on them? If the war was to happen and they would put restrictions on our rights/freedom it would be wrong. I feel that they should not put restrictions on them because this is what citizens of America strived for, which is known as the Bill of Rights.

Even though civil liberties should not be restricted, it?s happening right before my eyes. Just the other day 100 people from Albany, New York got arrested. They got arrested for protesting of a man?s arrest for wearing a peace T-shirt while shopping in a Crossgates Mall. Sixty-one year ago Stephen Downs was arrested and charged with trespassing in the mall after he refused to take it off. Who were the people who arrested him? I mean were they not ?America?? I thought this was the land of the ?free,? and we got to wear what we wanted to wear. They shouldn?t get put out public places because of what is on their shirt. By during this kind of act they are or breaking the 1st amendment, which states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Therefore you shouldn?t get put for what you are wearing but for acts of badness.

Since September 11, we are losing our liberties. On November 6th, 001 in USA Today, I found out that the Justice Department approved eavesdropping on conversations between defense lawyers and clients in the terrorism probe. This act violates the 4th amendment. The 4th amendment states The Fourth Amendment prohibits the police and other government officials from searching people?s homes or offices or seizing their property without reasonable grounds to believe that a crime has been committed. In most cases, police can conduct a search of a person?s home or office only after they get a written search warrant from a judge, detailing where they will search and what they expect to find.

President Bush has decided that terrorism suspects can be tried before special military council. Based on this decision, as many as 1000 foreigner was gather search that they can find the attackers. As we look back at the amendments this points out the 5th amendment, which is states that no person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Write my Essay on The Restrictions on Civil Liberties are unjustified?

In conclusion, we are very concerned about the spread of terrorism, but we have to ask ourselves what is the balance. ?How do you do that and ensure that we dont trample on the constitutional rights that we have fought to protect for over 00 years?(Sen. Tom Daschle) If restrictions was place don our liberties, How would I?ll life be if civil liberties were restricted? In my opinion it wouldn?t be worthless.
