The book Night by Elie Wiesel has many themes to it. The one that I'm choosing is the discrimination of man kind and how prejudice people can be.

The Holocaust is one of the worst case scenarios that showed cruelty on behave of mankind. Elie said, "A prolonged whistle split the air. The wheels began to grind. We were on our way." I could not imagine how frightened he was when the Nazis were relocating he and his family. At this point, there was nothing Elie, his family, and any other Jews could do. They were on their way to concentration camps whether they wanted to or not. In my opinion, the Nazis were the most inhumane group of people in the world. They didn't think about their actions and the other people's feelings. All they thought about was getting rid of Jews. No humans should have had to gone through this ordeal. How cruel can people get?

Before all of this, Elie was a very committed Jewish boy. He was very religious and studied the kaballa which was unusual for a boy to be studying. After going through the concentration camps, seeing his fellow Jews get tortured and killed, and being tortured himself, he started to lose faith in GOD. "For the first time, I felt a revolt rise up in me. Why should I bless His name? The Eternal, Lord of the Universe, the All-Powered and Terrible, was silent. What had I to thank him?" This part of the book is when the Nazis were forcing Elie and some other Jews to go into the crematory. Elie questions why he should believe in the Lord after all he has gone through. He asks why should he pray and be thankful for things when he is going through so much pain. This is what cruelty does. It changes your perspectives in life and sometimes, like in this case, it questions some of the important aspects in your life like faith.

In one of the parts of this book, Elie describes how he has to see his father get burned right in front of him. After going through this terrible loss, how will he ever recover? Although he has a very hard time, he forces himself to struggle and survive for his life. This is a very hard task for him, but fortunately, he gets through it.... all because of his father.

"My mind was invaded suddenly by this realization there was no more reason to live, no more reason to struggle." This is what he thought after he saw his father huddled near him wrapped up in his blanket and not moving. Even though Elie disobeyed his father at times before, he loved him very much. Their relationship grew during their time in the concentration camps. They both realized how they might not ever see each other again and they didn't take granted of any of the time they had left with each other.
