The book Night by Elie Wiesel has many themes to it. The one that I'm choosing is the discrimination of man kind and how prejudice people can be.

The Holocaust is one of the worst case scenarios that showed cruelty on behave of mankind. Elie said, "A prolonged whistle split the air. The wheels began to grind. We were on our way." I could not imagine how frightened he was when the Nazis were relocating he and his family. At this point, there was nothing Elie, his family, and any other Jews could do. They were on their way to concentration camps whether they wanted to or not. In my opinion, the Nazis were the most inhumane group of people in the world. They didn't think about their actions and the other people's feelings. All they thought about was getting rid of Jews. No humans should have had to gone through this ordeal. How cruel can people get?

Before all of this, Elie was a very committed Jewish boy. He was very religious and studied the kaballa which was unusual for a boy to be studying. After going through the concentration camps, seeing his fellow Jews get tortured and killed, and being tortured himself, he started to lose faith in GOD. "For the first time, I felt a revolt rise up in me. Why should I bless His name? The Eternal, Lord of the Universe, the All-Powered and Terrible, was silent. What had I to thank him?" This part of the book is when the Nazis were forcing Elie and some other Jews to go into the crematory. Elie questions why he should believe in the Lord after all he has gone through. He asks why should he pray and be thankful for things when he is going through so much pain. This is what cruelty does. It changes your perspectives in life and sometimes, like in this case, it questions some of the important aspects in your life like faith.

In one of the parts of this book, Elie describes how he has to see his father get burned right in front of him. After going through this terrible loss, how will he ever recover? Although he has a very hard time, he forces himself to struggle and survive for his life. This is a very hard task for him, but fortunately, he gets through it.... all because of his father.

"My mind was invaded suddenly by this realization there was no more reason to live, no more reason to struggle." This is what he thought after he saw his father huddled near him wrapped up in his blanket and not moving. Even though Elie disobeyed his father at times before, he loved him very much. Their relationship grew during their time in the concentration camps. They both realized how they might not ever see each other again and they didn't take granted of any of the time they had left with each other.

Cycles of "boom" and "bust" will remain with society forever. A modern day example is the hit success of the T.V. show Survivor. The new, unique show comes out and everyone loves it. So, all the major companies create their own new Survivor show. The reality TV show market goes "boom." Then the market becomes saturated with reality shows. Nobody is interested anymore and the whole thing goes "bust." This is much like what happened with three major industries on the western frontier.

With the flood of western expansion and the bestowment of 160 acres of land, almost every settler became interested in farming. Farming was a way to sustain your family and make a little money on the side. Farmers of the day, however, were plagued by many failures. They did not understand how to re-fertilize the land, and over time their land became stale and arid. They could not grow crops to feed their families.

Discovery of gold in the west and a few lucky individuals becoming filthy rich very quickly prompted a floor of settlers to venture west. Once thousands of hopeful gold diggers arrived, they realized there was a very slim chance they were going to become rich very quickly. The mines were overcrowded and ruled with strict regulations because almost everyone would work for almost free. The gold industry busted on everyone and destroyed the dreams of those unfortunate travelers who had left behind their jobs and families in search of riches. They are all forced to return home much as they arrived, in poverty.

The cattle industry was once an industry of the middle-class rancher. But, with the advent of barbed wire and the train systems, everyone became interested in cattle ranching. This rush of cattle flooded the market with cheap beef. The only ones able to stay afloat were the big business owners of cattle. The large businesses were able to hold out as the industry fell; eventually they recovered as many of their competitors were forced out of the market. The little man was once again not able to fulfill his get rich quick fantasies.

Much like today, few people are able to benefit from the boom-bust cycles of society. The average western settler did not become rich or fulfill his every fantasy by taking advantage of these booms. More often, he returned home in poverty and continued his normal life. Settlers learned that they could not depend on the wavering cycles of the economy to guide them to reaches. They realized that they must forged their own path and create for themselves a new life filled with the dreams of wealth that they wanted. The boom-bust cycles helped for the average American to realize that they are the only ones who can make their dreams come true.

The main character in this book is Buck. He reminds me of a friend of a friend of mine named Ryan. They are both strong, courageous, smart and a good friend.

A part in he book I found unrealistic was near the end when buck got revenge by killing the Yeehats. How could one dog scare them all away? There is no way that a dozen people would run from one dog.

I think that the relationship between Buck and John Thortan is interesting because even after all the things they have gone through, saving each other's lives, Buck is still just a dog. The saying "Mans best friend" definitely applies.

The part in this book that reminds me of my life is when won the bet for John Thortan by pulling one hundred and fifty pounds. This reminds me of my friends. We rely on each other for help and we always pull through and get out of whatever we got ourselves into.

Buy cheap Call of the Wild and Count of Monte cristo summer reading term paper

If I were Buck at the end of the book, I would feel happy. Having gotten revenge for John Thortan, earning respect in a wolf pack, and finding my place in the wilderness.

The main character in this book, Edmond Dantès, reminds me of my friend Brian. They are both sneaky, smart, tough and in the end they get what they want.

I think the relationship between Edmond and Abb Faria, The prisoner of Château D'If, is interesting because of their situation. When they first met Edmond was so lonely he would have been happy for any company no matter what the did or who they were. However as the book progressed you find that Abb is willing to free Edmond from his cell in exchange for his help. During the time they spend together Edmond learns from Abb and they develop a father-son relationship.

I find this whole book to be realistic. I think it is all possible and could have happened. The main character, Edmond, seemed to have everything planned out. From when he escaped from prison to when he got his revenge on all the people who ruined his life.

A situation in this book that reminds me of my life is when Edmond was falsely accused of a crime he did not commit. Sine I am the only boy of four children I often find that my sisters are all against me, and many times I am blamed for things I didn't do.

If I were Edmond at the end of the book, I would feel satisfied knowing that I defeated many powerful enemies without them knowing who I really was.

IVF (In vitro fertilisation) is an assisted reproductive technology in a process by which egg and sperm are fertilized outside the body and then placed in a woman's uterus after fertilisation. It usually involves the removal of eggs from the woman's ovary and the collection of sperm from a male. The embryo, which results from fertilisation in the laboratory, is transferred to the woman's uterus about two to five days later. At this stage, long before any organs have formed, it is still visible to the naked eye and consists of only a few cells.

IVF has had huge publicity and has gained a false reputation as the solution for infertility. In practise, it is one of the most demanding of all procedures in reproductive medicine and is the least successful compared to some alternatives. Strictly speaking, IVF is not even a "treatment" for infertility as it does not alter the underlaying cause of infertility. It is simply an attempt to help someone who is infertile to have a baby, the attempt can be repeated several times, but the basic cause of infertility remains. Although IVF does not change the underlaying cause of fertility, it is best where possible to seek therapy which may improve the chances of becoming pregnant naturally. But there is no doubt that IVF has revolutionized the treatment of infertile people and increased our knowledge about many aspects of what initially causes infertility.

In vitro fertilisation means literally "fertilisation in glassware" (from the Latin word vitrum), even though glassware is hardly ever used in IVF clinics because of the need for absolute cleanliness and the impossibility of washing glass thoroughly enough. For this reason, doctors prefer to use disposable containers and equipment which are used once and then thrown away.

IVF is often confused with artificial insemination (AI) which is completely different. Artificial insemination refers to conception that does not take place by sexual intercourse. It involves a doctor or nurse placing sperm directly into a woman's vagina or uterus with a syringe or some other artificial method; fertilisation then occurs in the woman's fallopian tube in the natural way.

Cheap Custom Essays on IVF

It is important to realise that IVF is not always the ideal treatment for most infertility patients and certainly it should not be the first option to be considered. More that half the women referred to IVF clinics could be better treated by alternatives. Too frequently no systematic assessment of the medical condition of the patient is made in the early stages. There is a real need for referring GP's to make better judgements as to wether a patient would most benefit from IVF treatment or consider other alternatives. Often patients themselves push for IVF when there may be a more suitable, possibly cheaper, treatment.

Stars

A star is a luminous globe of gas consisting of mainly hydrogen and helium which produces its own heat by nuclear reaction, stars shine for many billions of years although they have been found to have changed in appearance and size. We can see stars from earth because they are bright and glowing, it is a luminous globe of gas, the temperature rises as dust grains radiate much of the heat, but as it grows denser less of the heat generated can escape and it warms up. When the star is about 10 million degrees Celsius the temperature is very hot, high enough for a nuclear reaction to begin, vast amounts of energy are released, contraction stops and the star shines.

Constellations

As seen from the Earth, all the historic planets are conspicuous naked-eye objects moving in looped paths against the stellar background. The size of these loops, which are caused by the Earths own motion round the Sun, are inversely proportional to the planets distance from the Earth. The constellations are totally imaginary things that poets, farmers and astronomers have made up over the past 6,000 years (and probably even more!). The real purpose for the constellations is to help us tell which stars are which, nothing more. On a really dark night, you can see about 1000 to 1500 stars. Trying to tell which is which is hard. The constellations help by breaking up the sky into more manageable bits. Around the world, farmers know that for most crops, you plant in the spring and harvest in the fall. But in some regions, there is not much differentiation between the seasons. Since different constellations are visible at different times of the year, you can use them to tell what month it is. For example, Scorpius is only visible in the northern hemispheres evening sky in the summer. Some historians suspect that many of the myths associated with the constellations were invented to help the farmers remember them. When they saw certain constellations, they would know it was time to begin the planting or the reaping. The nearest star, Proxima Centurai (part of the Alpha Centurai group) is just over four light years away. The diameter of the orbit of this comet cloud would be about 00,000 Astronomical Units, or two and a half light years.

Day and Night

The earth spins on its axis every 4 hours, the side of the earth nearest to the sun is lit up by the suns light so this side is having daytime, the other side is in darkness so this side is having night time. A day lasts for 1 hours and a night for 1 hours so altogether 4 hours make up day and night. In June and the summer months the days are long and the nights are short whereas in December and the winter months the days are short and the nights long.

In Circus in Town by Sinclair Ross, an eleven-year-old girl called

Through her intelligence, Jenny rises above her disappointment. Her

mother considers Jenny to be a country girl who will live her life on the

farm. "Nothing ahead of her but chickens and cows! Another ten years

Can't you just see the big, gawky know nothing she's going to be?"

(Paragraph 10) Jenny is upset that her mother does not value her learning

achievements in school. However, Jenny encourages herself by

remembering that "She was farther on in school than any other girls her

age." (Paragraph 11) Her intelligence helps her to see herself as a

valuable person by gaining the self-confidence that her mother has

undermined. It is also through her naivety that she accepts her

predicament in a positive way.

Jenny's innocence allows her to see the bright side of her situation.

Although her circumstances do not let her go to the circus, she does not

put blame upon her parents, but rather herself for causing a quarrel

between her mother and father. "A beautiful poster a band and half an

elephant- and she felt exasperated and guilty that there should be a

quarrel about it." (Paragraph ) Jenny is so pure that she forgets the

unpleasant occurrences and criticizes herself for any bad things that

others have done to her. Furthermore, this optimism leads her to achieve

her dream, whether real or unreal.

Jenny is optimistic and uses her imagination to keep her dream

alive. When reality does not allow her go to the circus, she tries to

accomplish her hope instead of just throwing it away. " The circus went

on. All night long she wore her purple tights and went riding Billie round

and round the pasture in them." (Paragraph 4) Jenny uses her

imagination to create her own circus by in an attempt to hold on to her

dream toward realization.

Naivety, intelligence, and optimism are characteristics which help

Jenny to rise above the grim reality of her life on the farm. Her intelligence helps her to remain confident even when her mother

discourages her by saying she will amount to nothing. Against all odds,

she naively believes in making her dream come true. She keeps her

which together with her intelligence and naivety allows her to respond

After going through all the Sonnets, I liked Sonnet 10 the most.

To be frank enough, I found Sonnet 10 a very odd loving poem. Rather than praising his lover, Shakespeare at first seems to be insulting her. According to him, her eyes do not sparkle like the sun, her skin is grayish-brown rather than white, her lips arent very red, her cheeks dont have much color, her hair looks like wires, her breath doesnt smell very good and that the sound of her voice certainly isnt as nice to listen to as music. He also points out that she doesnt float like a goddess; rather she walks on the ground like everyone else but at the end, he tries to illustrate that his love for her remains undiminished.

It is always observed that while writing a love poem, most of the poets tend to idealize and romanticize the one they love. They use all sort of comparisons to show how beautiful or handsome he/she is. But these comparisons aren't realistic. Even if someone really believes that the lover has sparkling eyes, snow-white skin, a charmingly musical voice, . . . etc., these beliefs have nothing to do with love. In turn these seem to be more closely related to blind infatuation. In Sonnet 10, Shakespeare tries to sum up the above-mentioned points in the last two lines wherein he states that the one he loves is as rare as, and therefore as precious as, any of those lovers who have been unrealistically described with false comparisons. He realizes that the one he loves is not perfect but his love for her remains undiminished.

The poem is in the English sonnet form. It contains fourteen lines wherein the first twelve lines are divided into three 4-line quatrains & the last two lines are combined to form a couplet in order to sum up the main theme of the poem. Each line in the Sonnet also consists of 10 Syllables. For Example - My/ mis/ tress/ eyes/ are/ no/ thing/ like/ the/ sun/)& the lines also form an iambic pentametre. The poem also has a rhyming scheme of ABAB CDCD EFEF GG.

Order Custom Essay on Best Sonnet

Additionally, among all other sonnets, Sonnet 10 consists of mixtures of similes and metaphors used throughout. The entire sonnet forms a series of comparisons. Shakespeare uses metaphor and similes to compare the features of his love to beautiful things they are not like. For Example - In Line 1, he uses a simile to compare the mistress eyes to being Nothing like the sun, in line , he uses a metaphor to illustrate how pale her lips are compared to a coral and so on.

Finally, I can only say that Shakespeare has presented us, a vivid impression of a woman who is foolishly captivated with her relatively poor appearance and the reaction of her love.

Hence due to these reasons, I liked Sonnet 10 the most.
