Lorene Cary, an African American girl in Black Ice is non-athletic, a coward, afraid of trying new things and too quick to judge.
In the first scene we meet Fumiko, a Japanese girl. On the way to soccer practice, Fumiko asks Lorene if she likes to play basketball. Lorene replies "no".
