Lady Macbeth

Lady Macbeth is first introduced to us in Act 1 Scene 5. This is when she receives a letter from Macbeth. The first image I get of her and I noticed it in the film was evil powerful and ambitious. I decided this due to she call's evil sprits upon her self so she can kill the king and become Queen. This is said through words like the following 'unsex me here' saying she wants to get rid of her womanly feelings. 'Take my milk for gall' saying change the milk to feed her child to poison, which tell us she's not really that normal.

Also I get the picture that nothing will stop Lady Macbeth since she dreams of being Queen and she will achieve it. When Macbeth returns from battle she's all over him, and telling him what she wants to do, telling us the audience that she's in control over her Macbeth relationship. Once King Duncan arrives for his visit Lady Macbeth turns into the perfect hostess she's polite courteous and completely different to how we saw her previous telling us she can change her personality easily. In these scenes Duncan calls her 'fair and noble hostess' where as the scene before Lady Macbeth has been plotting to kill Duncan.

In Act 1 Scene 7 we get to see Lady Macbeth in control, determined and I wondered did the evil sprits really turn her? This particular scene I remember when I saw the video of Macbeth because it showed her bossy point demanding, evil al the things a women shouldn't be. Lady Macbeth says in this scene to Macbeth 'was the hope drunk' exclaiming you made me a promise how dare you change your mine, 'art thou afeard' meaning you coward your afraid showing that she isn't he's weak. Also Lady Macbeth says something which leaves a question in my mind did she have a young child and it past a way or not? She says she's given suck and she plucked her nipple from his boneless gums. Then she carries on persuading Macbeth until she gets what she wants mc to say he'll kill King Duncan so she can get her dream.

Custom writing service can write essays on Lady Macbeth

Lady Macbeth next appears in Act Scene when Macbeth enters with two 'bloody daggers' after killing King Duncan, suddenly for a second but I noticed it on the video she got sacred which was showed when she spoke in short sentences then suddenly Lady Macbeth is in charge again 'give me the daggers' imposing if your scared I'll do it. Then in the video we see her bossing him around like he was a child. I found this scene particularly interesting to watch because it per traded each Lady Macbeth in to two ways in power and a scared and it was acted well so you could feel the tension there must have been between them at this moment.

In Act Scene King Duncan's body is discovered. We discover not only is Lady Macbeth evil and persuasive she's a good liar and actress too. She shows as this with the surprise tone of him being found in 'what our house?' 'Help me hence' then follows by fainting, but I wonder was this on purpose or did she really faint which I'm not sure of and the video didn't tell me that either.

When we next see Lady Macbeth in Act Scene she has her dream she's queen but she doesn't seem happy. She seems distraught scared and anxious, but never less she covers for her husband when he has his visions of Banquo and uses her skills of a liar to cover the real reason of why Macbeth is saying Banquo is there but isn't. The next scene we see Lady Macbeth in is the most dramatic and when I saw it on the video it looked weird, the tensions was and Lady Macbeth looked a mess. Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking she's having a nightmare of the night king Duncan was killed. 'Yes here's a spot' which is indicating to the blood on her hands from the daggers and she said this a few times more 'the thane of fife had a wife. Where is she now?' saying Macbeth killed the Macduffs, there gone. 'Here the smell of blood still' which shows in her eyes she will never be free of what she had done which in the video shows her scrubbing and scrubbing her hands.

Finally Lady Macbeth kills her self by jumping off her balcony showing how distraught she really was.

In Act 5 Scene Lady Macbeth is called a 'fiend-like queen' but is she really deep down I think Lady Macbeth was a kind gentle person but had a ambition and would do anything to make it happen a it had consciences because it cost her her life and made her unhappy for her last months alive and this was shown in the video by how she looked and the acts she put on.

Body Piercing

Just like tattooing, the practice of piercing a hole through the human skin to insert jewelry is an ancient art form that has been in existence since the beginning of time. Different cultures use the art of piercing or the adornment of jewelry for various different reasons.

The history of body piercing dates back to ancient Egypt, where certain types of body piercing signified social rank. Egyptians could spot a woman who was a member of the royal family by looking at her navel ring. The special privilege of navel piercing was also reserved for members of the priesthood. Ear piecing was also popular among Egyptian women, and the custom of wearing large gold hoops evolved into smaller earrings that supported pendants. In contrast, in Babylonia and Assyria, it was the men that wore earrings to denote rank.

In times of the Roman Empire, the Caesars bodyguards wore nipple rings as a symbol of virility, courage and fashion sense. Also, Roman soldiers needed their nipples pierced for a more pragmatic reason to hold their short capes when going off to war. In India, the nose ring was used to show the individuals class and wealth, while the Arabs celebrated the passage of men into adulthood by piercing the scrotum.

Piercing also occurred among tribes in New Guinea, Indonesia, Australian Aborigines, and North and South America for hundreds of years. Among the Tlingit of Southeastern Alaska, for example, ear piercing was directly related to an individuals rank in society.

An individual could raise the social rank of his grandchildren by hosting a community feast called a potlatching, in which the host paid a member of his clan to pierce the rims of the childrens ears. At successive feasts, more holes were added to the ears the adding number of holes marked an individual as a member of the nobility.

Other piercing trends seen today involve the stretching of the earlobes in order to accommodate ear-spools and earplugs. These earplugs, which can range in size from one centimeter to inches in diameter, closely resemble the ones worn by the people of ancient Mexico, including the Maya. In Asia, there are also examples of stretched earlobes that come from wearing extremely heavy earrings.

Until the late XIX century, lip piercing defined social status and age among the Eskimo people of Alaska. Both men and women wore lip-plugs, called labrets, which were made of ivory. Young men received the labret as a sort of initiation into puberty while Eskimo women usually wore only one central lip-plug for decoration.

Nose piercing was also popular in Ancient Mexico and India. Today, women in India and Pakistan continue to wear nose rings, as do many people around the world.

In the 180s, the bosom ring, which was sold in many Parisian and London jewelry shops, became a very popular fad among Victorian women in Europe. Ladies were willing to go through the painful operation of piercing their nipples for the sake of love -in the belief that fuller, more erect, shiny nipples would better please their lover. Some women even wore chains connecting their breasts as an added ornament. Not surprisingly, the bosom ring fad outraged the medical community who decried this indecorous practice for destroying the dignity of the womans body.

Yet, the bosom ring piercing wasnt the only type of body piercing practiced in Victorian times. A type of piercing that is today known as Prince Albert was very popular among men. This practice consisted of a piercing through the urethra and head of the penis to secure the genitals to the right or left pant leg during the tight trouser craze.

Closer to the present time, during the infamous 70s, exotic piercing became popular thanks to the San Francisco S&M scene and the punk movement in England. Piercing artists like Doug Malloy, Jim Ward, Fakir, and Alan Oversby (a.k.a Mr. Sebastian), today considered the grandfathers of piercing, ultimately influenced todays standards and procedures. Doug Malloy is also credited with establishing the first piercing studio in the United States.

Painful as it might seem, today, body piercing occurs worldwide and is practiced by men, women and children. Its increasing popularity has been helped by fashion gurus like Jean Paul Gaultier, who connects pierced ear and pierced nose with posh jewelry, and Naomi Campbell, who comfortably displays her pierced navel on covers of magazines.

The job I chose to apply for is a chef manager-in-training job at Nordstrom Restaurant Division in Denver Colorado. Though I have never been a manager before and have little if any experience in this part of the field I feel like I have the ability and knowledge to at least work my way into becoming a great one. The qualifications of this job require a passion for food service, restaurant background, strong leadership skills, experience with food, lab and/or expense controls, committed to excellence in quality, service and cleanliness, flexible and not afraid of change, and strong communication skills. I believe that this is a great opportunity for me to strengthen my management skills by going through their management program and learning what it take to become a top quality regional and general manager. I believe that there are definitely skills that I will need to polish up on such as mediation between employees who have a conflict of interest. It also wouldn't hurt to work on my knowledge of sauces and dressings. Though my restaurant background is not as extensive as I would like it to be I believe that I have the skill, motivation and ability to learn everything I need to know and more so that I can better prepare for owning my own business one day.

Nordstrom Restaurant Division is all about it's employees. They pride themselves on a work environment that you can learn, work, play, achieve and succeed in the food service environment. Nordstrom has been honored with Fortune Magazine 5 years in a row as one of the 100 best Companies to work for in America. They have been named to Fortune's list of the 50 best companies for minorities. I would love to work for a company with these qualifications because they seem very employee centered. I like the benefits and they way they offer programs to help improve your skills in areas that you may need a little work on. They're not afraid to hire employees that lack all the experience as long as they make up for it in motivation. They offer competitive wages, bonus program, balanced work schedule and benefits. The benefits package includes 401k plan, employee stock purchase plane, profit sharing, medical insurance, paid vacation and merchandise discounts.

I would like to give off a professional, confident and placid persona. I want them to feel like I'm eager to learn yet confident in the knowledge that I've attained through my previous experiences. I want them to see a stress and pressure free person who can handle both if the situation were to arise.

To the interview I would definitely have a suite a tie on. Professionalism is the key to attaining a good job along with experience and dedication. I would have clean shoes and the suite would be evenly pressed so they would recognized that I take my appearance and this job seriously.

How long have you worked here and why do you like it so much?

Why has this position become available and what didn't the previous employee like about it?

What kind of benefits do you offer such as medical, dental, bonus, vacation time and how long is the probation period before these benefits become available to me?

What is you employee turnover rate and if it was low, how do you keep your employees so satisfied and happy?

Some of the questions that I would expect them to not to ask me are question like

What is the origin of your name?

What are the names and relationships of those with whom you live with?

When did you graduate from high school? Was it affiliated with a church?

Do you intend to have children and if so, when?

I would make sure that I did not act fidgety to get up and leave. I would make them feel like confident in their establishment by giving them my undivided attention and asking pertinent, specific questions. At the end of this interview I would thank them for their time and proceed to give the a hand shake before they reached to give me one.

I think I should earn about $5,000 with my experience and education because I want to start as a line cook and work my way up learning from others so that I will be fully aware of that restaurants operations. This I feel will give me a advantage when I become Manager of their operations. The average salary in Colorado Springs, CO for a sous chef is $6,441. This is perfect for starting off with.

.How does greed play a part in the Kings and Dukes decision not to leave right away with the cash

The reason that the King and Duke don't decide to leave right away is because they want to sell the property to make more money. If the King and the Duke did not try and sell the property they would have made it away clean.

10.Why does the sale of the slaves upset the Wilks girls?

Tom Sawyer promises much--robbing stages, murdering and ransoming people, kidnapping beautiful women--but none of this comes to pass. Huck finds out too late that Toms adventures are imaginary that raiding a caravan of A-rabs really means terrorizing young children on a Sunday school picnic, that stolen joolry is nothing more than turnips or rocks. Huck is disappointed that the adventures Tom promises are not real and so, along with the other members, he resigns from the gang.

Period 6 Book Response

Dinotopia the Maze

Dinotopia the Maze by Peter David is a book of braveness, courage and adventure. The main characters Gwen, Jason and Booj (a Velociraptor) try to find a megaraptor, Odon. They believed he could heal Gwen's dad who was ill. They must find the hidden maze full of traps that Odon is hiding in. This maze requires both teamwork and strategy. They must work fast because they need to find a cure for Gwen's dad.

Help with essay on Cheetahs

Gwen did not have a good relationship with her father. "Is that understood!" () Gwen didn't like her father at that time. She thought her father didn't like her. Gwen tries to talk to him but all he cares about is working on his farm. " You're my daughter. I love you. Any other discussion is simply pointless. Dwelling on what might have been is a waste of time, Gwen. And there're not enough hours in the day for me to waste. I'm a farmer I have other things to do."(16) Eric Corey (Gwen's Dad) should think more about his daughter besides his work.

Gwen's father had become ill. Eric Corey was suffering from Zinix disease and no one could help him. "So how do we cure it?"(48) asked Gwen. "What kind of medicine do you have?"(48) "I regret to tell you this, my dear, but there isn't any," he said in his gentle Austrian accent.(48) (Dr. Traptor speaking) Dr. Traptor had a mega raptor her name was Ulla who was his nurse and medical associate. Gwen had met up with Jason in the woods after she ran away from her father who had not been treating her well. Jason mentioned how Odon was a healer and he was in a maze with traps. Jason was a very smart boy. "Memorize it. Learn it, understand it, and take it in here-". (7) Gwen and Jason eventually met up with Booj a Velociraptor. On their journey, Booj offered to show them the way to the maze. At the same time that Jason and Booj were looking for the secret entrance to the maze, Gwen disappeared into a hole in a wall after stomping her foot into the ground. Now in the maze, Gwen would have to work fast and as a team with her other two friends, also in the maze, in order to find Odon.

While in the maze they came upon many obstacles. "Why are they attacking us?!".(5) This is when Gwen, Jason, and Booj all needed to work together as a team the most. In the maze there is a natural gas that caused Gwen and Jason to fight. Booj knew what was going on and told Gwen and Jason which made them stay together as a team. As they got closer into the maze, what they thought was a monster was really a geyser and they headed toward it. They had finally reached Odon but he wouldn't help them to heal Gwen's dad. "I've been polite, and I've been patient, but now I want to be left alone. There are always other healers, seek them" (1-10) Odon didn't believe humans and dinosaurs should work together. Since Gwen, Jason, and Booj wouldn't leave, Odon knocked Booj down and held Booj down with Odon's own foot. Gwen tried to get Odon away by punching him. Jason tried to grab Odon's tail, Oden finally backed off. Gwen and Jason told Odon that Booj was their friend and they would never run away. After that Odon offered to help Gwen's dad with medicine that he made from fungus. The fungus grew in volcanic vents near to the house where Odon used to live. Odon wanted to spend time with Jason, "I've had very little contact with society for some time now. I venture out to the surface very rarely. However, I think it's time I re-evaluate my life. Embark again on the maze that relationships with others always are. However, rather than throw myself into the thick of it, I shall spend time with Jason. It will be a good way to ease myself back into your world."(18) (Odon speaking) The characters showed that good things can happen when people work together to come up with a plan.

The author's use of adventure with the teamwork message throughout the story, made this an exciting and suspenseful book to read. This book was full of courage and adventure. The author created an image in my mind of a maze that was scary and dark. This book had a very good ending. Gwen, Jason, and Booj were successful and got to Odon and cured Gwen's dad. The lesson I learned in this book is that people working together as a team, where everyone helps each other, can accomplish things much better and quicker.

Anorexia Nervosa is a mental disorder in which a person has an intense fear of gaining weight and a distorted perception of their weight and body shape. People with this illness believe themselves to be fat even when their weight is so low that their health is in danger. A person with anorexia nervosa severely restricts food intake and usually becomes extremely thin. People with this disease are sometimes known as anorectics or anorexics. Anorexics have a preoccupation with food, weight, dieting, and body image. They are dissatisfied with their bodies, perceive themselves to be fat regardless of their actual weight, and are obsessed with becoming thin. Many are so focused on outward appearance that they have little awareness of internal sensations such as hunger and fullness. Anorexics usually undertake strict diets, severely restricting food intake and avoiding certain foods they deem taboo. They may also undergo intense, strenuous exercise regimens and weigh themselves frequently. Despite eating very little, many people with anorexia nervosa become overly involved with food by preparing elaborate meals for others or taking over food shopping or preparation for the family. At meals, they may cut their food into tiny pieces, eat very slowly, and dispose of food secretly.

The incidence of anorexia is higher among teenage girls and young women than in other groups of Americans. Females account for about 0 percent of eating disorders in the United States. In Western society, the number of people who have this disorder seems to be increasing. Anorexia nervosa may be mild and transient or severe and long lasting. Anorexia nervosa primarily affects people in middle and upper socioeconomic classes.

About 0 percent of people with anorexia nervosa also develop bulimia nervosa. This is a type of eating disorder in which individuals engage in episodes of binge eating, or consuming large amounts of food in a short period, and then purging the food from their bodies by self-induced vomiting or abuse of laxatives. Death rates as high as 10 to 0 percent have been reported. However, because mild cases may not be diagnosed, no one knows exactly how many people have anorexia nervosa or what percentage die of it. This has been stated. According to the American Psychiatric Association, between 0.5 percent and .7 percent of females experience anorexia in their lifetime.

Nutrients are chemical substances supplied from the environment that humans require for survival. Digestion breaks down nutrients to sizes that can be absorbed and transported into the bloodstream. Metabolism refers to the way that nutrients are altered chemically and used in anabolism, building up or synthesis, and catabolism, breaking down, of chemical compounds to support the activities of life. We eat to obtain nutrients that power everyday processes of life. In a more literal sense, eating is a complex, finely tuned homeostatic mechanism that balances nutrient utilization with nutrient procurement. At the center of this control are parts of the hypothalamus called the accurate and paraventricular nuclei. Here, a molecule called neuropeptide Y links biochemical messages concerning nutrient use to regulators of food intake. These regulators include release of peptides that control appetite, pituitary hormones that oversee endocrine control of nutrient use and storage, and insulin release.

Leadership in Organizations

Leadership is something I feel is essential in all organizations for them to succeed. I read an article titled Leadership styles, from Elvis to Rosa Parks. This article basically defined what leadership meant, and how it should be used in the workforce. This article touched on two major points of leadership, embracing a vision, and turning a vision into reality.

The first point I will talk about it embracing a vision. The writer of this article felt that to be a good leader one thing you must do is get people to embrace a vision or a goal that you have, as there own vision or goal. To do this you have to have full support and trust from your employees. This may sound like an easy task but in some cases it can be very difficult. For example, I work at a pet store and the managers wanted to start doing school field trips. None of the employees were very enthused about the whole idea, because it meant more work for us. But, the Managers kept enforcing the fact that it would bring more business to the store, which in turn meant more sales for each employee. The managers then put the employees in charge of scheduling and organizing the school events. The managers left all the decision making up to the employees, which gave us a chance to do what we wanted. Because, the managers left all the decisions up to us, it almost felt like we came up with the idea ourselves. So you can see, although we didn't come up with the idea in the first place, the managers helped us to embrace it as our own. This idea I feel can be used in any organization. From my personal experiences I am definitely more willing to do something that I feel is partially my idea, rather that something I don't feel any connection to.

The second point the writer of this article talked about was turning that vision into reality. I touched on this in the previous paragraph, but I will elaborate a little bit more.

After you have the employees to feel that the idea is there's, as a good leader, you must inspire them to proceed with the idea and make it happen. To turn the vision into reality is easier than the first point the article made. Once you feel that you have helped the making of the vision or idea, you are likely to help achieve it. Continuing with the example mentioned previously, once we all accepted the idea as our own we worked very hard to get it done. We now all work together to schedule class activities for all different types of schools. We cater our discussions to what the teacher wants us to do. We all really have fun with it. You would never have guessed that noone wanted to do it at first. Another good example of this is one David Brewer, the writer of the article I read, made. He gave the example of John Kennedy's idea of taking a man to the moon. Many people thought it was unthinkable but because of his leadership, he persuaded other to believe in the idea also. A decade later a man walked on the moon.

So as you can see, a manager being a good leader is almost essential for getting quality work out of your employees, and to be able to achieve the unthinkable. So if someone is looking to become a manager or want to be looked at as a leader, they will try there hardest to achieve the goals set by managers no matter what. I read another article that gave a few good example of what people look for in a leader. About 85% stated that performance was the most important trait for a leader. Others felt that adaptability to different situations made a good leader, and other thought flexibility, and persistence made a good leader.

Whatever makes a good leader, it is just important for a manager to possess good leadership skills. Most people follow by example, so if a manager is a leader and does his work how he wants his employees work to be done, the employees will probably work harder.

In conclusion, according the David Brewer the writer of my article, Leadership is two things. One, someone who possesses leadership should be able to get employee to embrace a vision or goal as there own. Two the manager should then be able to be a good leader by motivating his employees to achieve the vision or goal. By possessing these two qualities David Feels that this makes a good leader.

If I Should Die Before I Wake by Han Nolan

The two main characters in my book were Hilary and Chana. Hilary is a girl who lives in our time. But Chana is a girl who lives in the times during the holocaust. Hilary is sixteen, has blonde hair and blue eyes. She is apart of a neo- Nazi gang in her town and hates all Jewish people. Chana is a Jewish girl during the holocaust, but the book does not describe her appearance. She is about thirteen in the beginning of the book but by the end of the book is nineteen. Hilary is very depressed with her life. She hates almost everything and everyone who is not in her Nazi gang. She became depressed and mean after her father died when his office building burnt down. Hilary was about five years old when her father died. Hilary thinks that his building burnt down because the boss of her father [which is Jewish] was too cheap to hire better security. Hilary is stuck to live with her mother who she does not get along with. As Hilary gets older she meets her boyfriend Brad. Brad gets her into the neo- Nazi gang, where they do chants to Hitler and hurt Jewish teenagers. One night Hilary and Brad go out on Brad's motorcycle. They get in an accident in another town and Hilary gets sent to the hospital. When she is the hospital she has these dreams of a Jewish girl during the holocaust. The girl is Chana and Hilary is very confused with the dreams and does not know what they mean. Chana is a girl who's father died because Nazi soldiers killed him. After his death Chana and her family are taken from their home and sent to a ghetto for Jewish people by the German Army. There she lives in a one-bedroom apartment with eight other people. Her and her family are constantly hungry because there is so little to eat. Hilary dreams about Chana and her family everyday. When Hilary wakes up she begins to stop hating Jewish people. Hilary and Chana both grow a lot during the story. Hilary starts to have less hate in her life and Chana grows into a courageous person with enough strength to handle Auschwitz concentration camp.

The setting of the story in the beginning of the book is in the town that Hilary lives in. There she meets her boyfriend who brings her into the Nazi gang. The entire book jumps constantly from when Hilary wakes up in the hospital to when she goes back to sleep and Chana is in Auschwitz concentration camp. The book does end with Hilary being in the hospital.

This book was an emotional roller coaster. Where one minute a girl is sick in the hospital and the next another girl is working constantly in a concentration camp where she hardly gets any food and when she does it is a soup that has insects, socks, underwear and many other horrible things floating in it. When Chana first goes to Auschwitz she has to take a shower nude with hundreds of other women. Then they shave her head and give her clothes that are much to big for her and don't keep her warm. There Chana works for two years which is a very difficult thing because most people who went there did not survive a week. After a little more then two years of being there Chana faints because she is so hungry. The climax of the story is when she wakes up from fainting and she is in the hospital with her grandmother and is confused. The resolution of the story is when you realize she fainted on the day the Germans lost the war and is set free with her grandmother to go back home. Hilary during all of this is growing as a loving person and learning not to be as hateful. Hilary understands how awful it was to hurt so many people just because they were Jewish and breaks up with her boyfriend.

Privilege

America is one of the most socio-economically diverse populations in the world, often pairing the richest classes with the poorest in the same community. As a teacher-to-be, it is my duty to treat all students equally, therefore I need to be able to look inside myself and figure out if there are any prejudices I might have that I might not even be aware of. I would like to consider myself as a very open person, but I know that I need to constantly be recognizing, and re-evaluating any stereotypes, I could have. In order to do this, I had to think hard to remember my past, and what shaped my view on the issue of social status.

I grew up in an upper-middle class suburban town called Los Altos. However, I went to a public school with kids from upper and lower socio-economic levels because kids from the town next to Los Altos were from lower income families, and were both in the same district. I remember how all of the kids would compare lunches at school, and trade food with each other. There were two types of lunches lunch A. consisted of a deli sandwich with all the fixings, yogurt, a bag of un-crumbled crackers, an apple (sliced thinly), and two cookies, and a juice box. Lunch B. consisted of a cheese sandwich, a bag of tortilla chips, a candy bar, and a soda or squeeze it. The only prejudice I can vividly remember having when I was a kid was that the kids with the A. lunches were somehow better taken care of, than the kids with the B. lunches.

I can also remember vividly a time when I felt I was discriminated upon by my skin color. I was in kindergarten, and we were putting on a show with the Mexican Hat Dance as one of the numbers. There was a solo part available for the girl who did the dance the best, and the way the teacher chose the "best dancer" was by having an audition. I really wanted to be the solo dancer in the Mexican Hat Dance because I had danced since I was three, and I remember thinking that I was the best dancer in my kindergarten class. I remember that there was only one Hispanic girl in the class at that time. The other ten girls in the class were Asian and Caucasian. The next day the teacher announced that the soloist was the Hispanic girl. I was frustrated because I really wanted that part, and I can remember feeling like my teacher chose her over me because she was Mexican and I was not. Maybe she really was chosen because she looked Mexican, or maybe my teacher just thought that she was a better dancer than me, either way, it makes me realize that even at a young age I was aware of the possibility that discrimination could have occurred.

Despite our differences, we all got over the visual barriers and became friends. I had a culturally diverse group of friends. I remember how we all pretty much ignored the fact that our skin colors, and facial features were different. Instead, we focused on our commonalities. This seemed to work fine, until we got into Junior High, and our priorities changed. We all wanted to fit in and we all seemed to have different ideas of was and was not "cool". There seemed to be no middle ground anymore. If you were a certain race, the chances were you hung out with mostly people from your race. I actually can remember making a conscious effort to be friends with everybody in my classes, but for the most part, my close friends were now Caucasian. I remember feeling confused and frustrated by the newly formed racial groups. Ever since then, I have been frustrated with the concept of privilege as a whole.

I would consider myself to be privileged because of my parents' success. Although I recognize the fact that I am lucky to have been born into this lifestyle, however, I decided to put my privileges to use in order to help the underprivileged. That is why I decided that I wanted to be a teacher. I am willing to take risks for what I believe in, and I believe that it is imperative for all children to recognize that they are special and unique. My plan is to individualize each child based on all of the components that make them who they are, by emphasizing a more direct interaction with my students. I hope that I will be able to make a difference, so someday everybody will have equal opportunities.

Hills like White Elephants a story written by Hemingway, indirectly tells us

Buy Hills Like White Elephants term paper

about unwanted pregnancy". Throughout the story, Hemingway does not convey the main idea. He conveys it in the introduction;" In which the unspoken subject is the abortion(164). Nevertheless, if we consider the symbolism of Jigs statement that hills resemble white elephants (165), we might be able to make a more definitive case that this in fact is a story about unwanted pregnancy. The Story is also a third person narrative. We never find out how either one of the character feels; we only find out what they feel after reading what they say to each other. The Story also speaks of a conflict that remains unresolved till the end.

The story is structured with the absence of a rising action , falling action ,climax and resolution and the presence of a flat structure. Due to absence of these, the story is termed as meaningless.

Hemingway focuses the story on mainly two characters American man and the Girl (Jig). The writer describes the girl as courageous. She is willing to call the situation what it is, to speak out, about their shallow relationship;" That's all we do isnt it--look at things and try new drinks?(166). It seems that Jig is brave enough to go through the pregnancy process, whereas the man is too selfish and afraid," But I don't want anybody but you. I don't want anyone else. (168) He cannot face up the change and challenge that life brings them. Ironically, hes the one responsible for building up her courage to have the operation. Throughout the story, it is observed that he (the man) is practically pleading with her to have the abortion because he does not want to deal with it. In spite of her objections, he returns every now and then to the subject. Even after she says," Would you please please please please please please please stop talking?(168), he persists. He also tries to manipulate her with passive -aggressive rhetoric" Well, the man said," If you don't want to you dont have to. I wouldnt have you do it if you didn't want to. But I know it's perfectly simple.(166). Towards the end, it is the girl who has to deal with the consequences of their joint action. She suffers the pain of her child, the regret of what could have been. She has to go through a procedure that is not simple and risk free. After realizing, that they cant have everything",(167) she resigns to the situation and copes with quiet resolve. The girl does not even complain or weep but simply say's," There's nothing wrong with me .I feel fine.(16) Throughout the story the writer conveys the mans selfish temperament and in the mean time he awards the girl, the badge of courage.

Hemingway describes the conflict between the man and the girl at a railway station. He sets a stark scene at a remote railway station on a very hot afternoon. At the railway station, it is observed that the American Man is trying to persuade his partner to get an abortion. The topic of their conversation (at the station) is never directly stated, but Hemingway ambiguously implies it. The writer graphically evokes the tension between the man and the girl waiting for a train as they discuss whether she should undergo the operation.

The title Hills Like White Elephants" is interpreted. The hills are said to have represented the rounded shape of a pregnant womens abdomen. A more interesting symbolism is the White Elephants. In Webster's Dictionary, under white elephant" one of the definition states" A property requiring much care and expense and yielding less profit." This is applicable to the story as it describes how the American man might view children. While Stating that hills look like white elephants (165), Jig also proves that she is not willingly anticipating the birth of his child. She later, reverses her original observation and in doing so allows the writer to capture her indecision and the general tension of the story.

Peju Ayeni

Summer Reading option

A child called "It" One Child's Courage to Survive By David Pelzer

Custom writing service can write essays on abuse

Peju Ayeni As I read your book it was very difficult for me to read but it was almost impossible for me to put it down. I know that you have been through a lot of hardships in your life. Can you just summarize what it felt like to live in that house.?

David J Pelzer This is something no child should have to go through. Words cannot describe what it was like living in that house. But I thank God that he helped me through it. It felt aws though God was testing me. Seeing how far I could be pushed

Peju Ayeni In the beginning to of the book you talked about the times before your mother began the abuse. Your mother was caring and even loving not just to your two brothers but also to you. You even compared your family to the Brady Bunch. Do you think that at first the abuse was really just discipline?

David J Pelzer It might have been discipline in the beginning. But all I know is that what was once discipline became abuse very quickly. When my Mom became an alcoholic she severely abused me. She slapped me and punched me every day. I remember a time when she pulled my arm so hard it came out of the socket. That is not discipline that is cruel punishment.

Peju Ayeni Do you see in any way why your mother singled you out to abuse. Why didn't she pick one of your other brothers to abuse or why didn't she abuse all three children?

David Pelzer I can't say why she chose me.. But she was a mental case. She really wasn't alright. I can't imagine why she picked me, but I think it was a source of enjoyment for her. Every time she slapped me or punched me she got joy out of it.

Peju Ayeni You where a product of extreme abuse and you suffered much agony. How did you survive?

David Pelzer I had to try my hardest. I had to think of ways to get by. There was a time when she locked me in the bathroom with ammonia and Clorox bleach . I realized that gas rises so I stayed low next to the vent on the floor and I survived.

Peju Ayeni In the book you were quoted in saying "If my mom didn't feed me, I'll feed myself. If she beat me I will tighten my body . I knew I had to take a stand"

David Pelzer I had to be the one to help myself. I knew no one else was going to help me. My father acted as if he was oblivious to what was going on. My mom told him that if he helped me she would leave him. I had to resort to stealing food from the garbage or people lunch boxes. I had to eat the dogs leftovers because of my mothers refusal to feed me.

Peju Ayeni Do you think that your mother wanted to kill you? At one point in your life she loved you. Do you feel she just needed a beating bag to relive her stress or did she want you dead.?

David Pelzer Yes of course she wanted me dead . With out a doubt. She almost killed me many times. The time when she locked me in the bathroom filled with Ammonia Clorox made it very clear to me. She wanted me to die but I always found a way to get. I remember that when she finally opened the bathroom door , she was even more upset because I wasn't dead yet. Also the time that she tumbled on me and stabbed me. That was one of the worst of all. At first she just threatened to stab me if I did not finish my choirs. Then she stabbed me right in my abdomen. My mother just left me there to bleed with no way to clean my wounds. She didn't even think to take me to the hospital She did many other crazy things like burn my hand on the stove.

Peju Ayeni You have been burnt, stabbed, beaten up numerous times and put through great lengths of agony. You are truly a testament of what a child can go through. How did you feel when you where rescued?

David Pelzer I never thought I would be rescued. I never thought I could be saved. I had been going through abuse since first grade. Finally the Nurse was tired of seeing my bruised up body and she decided to call social services and get me foster parents. I remember I was crying when she told me. I wasn't crying because I was sad. They were certainly tears of joy.. Even thought it happened almost 5 years ago the memory is st

fresh in my mind.

Dear Grandfather, December , 1880

We finally arrived, mother father and I. we all miss you grandmother and china so much. How is everything, we are all fine . . . We got off Angel Island three days ago and now we are at our new home. Its not the greatest especially compared to our home with you and grandmother in China, but I have to say that anything is better than the ship ride here, to America. It was so horrible. It was stinky and dirty and so crowded. Remember the night that you dropped us off at the dock and how many people was there well multiply that by like 100. They were such a long line to the ship and that was only the begging of our line standing. We did not get on the ship until around two in the morning. We went through inspections and they asked mother and father questions about our old life and what we hope to get out of our new life. I guess father answer all the questions right and our little family met the requirements because even though I was very tired we got to skip some lines and pass up a lot of people. I felt bad but I was also happy to go to our room and go to sleep. Our room was very small with one bed and the bathroom was connected to another family's room. The food was very blain and different made me miss Grandmother's cooking so much. There were so many different people on the ship, mostly they all spoke in the language that was from the country they came from and some spoke English. Everybody looked so different and acted so different also. The ship ride was like a pre view of Angel Island. I didn't realize how many people were on the ship until I got off. Every where you looked there were so many people carrying there luggage, trying to keep their whole family together, and trying to get into line before it got any longer. No matter what and how many people added onto the lines they seemed to go on forever, but after you get through the first one it is not too bad. The first line they collect all the information about you and your family and ask a lot of questions after that they split up the males from the females and then we go through the physical exception lines. They checked us up and down, from the top of our hair all the way down to how our feet are and how we walk. After we passed through that line we took a picture and went out to meet father again. I was so happy to see him again. Then the last line we had to stand through was a line to get our tickets for the, but that was going to take us to our new home in America. While I stood in that line with my father on my left and my mother on my right I looked forward and realized that is where my family is going straight forward I felt so good in side and so ready for anything. It was very late by the time we got onto our bus but I could still see outside the window, so many lights lit up the city called San Francisco. I was so beautiful. We arrived to our new house very late but I wasn't tired at all just excited. Well it is not very big it has two bed rooms, a kitchen, bathroom, and a living room. We live in what Americans call an apartment witch is a bunch of houses put together in one building. The past few days that I have been here I have seen so many things and made so many friends that live in the apartment and down the street. Mother has even made some new friends. Most of my new friends are in my class at school and I am teaching my neighbor Palo English. Father really likes his job he has not come home one day with out a smile on his face. He has met a man that has come from China also he says that e just came to see if he wants the rest of his family to come and they are. I told father and mother I thing that you and Grandmother should come. I think every thing is worth it even the ship ride. I miss you and Grandmother so much and I would be so happy if u came to live here in America with us and I know you would be happy here too. Well it is very late and I still have some homework to do. Write back as soon as you receive this letter. I love you.

Love always your granddaughter,

Mulan Chang

"Rear window" (154) composed by Alfred Hitchcock, has been dubbed as one of Hitchcock's 'most recognised films', 'a stylish and classic thriller'. Starring James Stewart as J. B. Jeff Jeffries, Grace Kelly as Lisa Carol Fermont, Wendell Corey as Detective Thomas J. Doyle, and Thelma Ritter as Stewart's nurse Stella, and Raymond Burr as Lars Burr.

J. B. Jeff Jeffries the professional photographer was determined to take the pictures of a lifetime and stepped in the way of a racecar accident. The result, a broken leg and six weeks in a cast in his own Greenwich Village apartment. Bored out of his wits, Jeff can let go of his profession and begins observing the world around him. Since his world is limited to the courtyard and the apartments surrounding him, he begins watching and studying his neighbours. As he becomes more familiar with the cast of characters surrounding him, Stewart begins naming different neighbours and becomes familiar with their routines For example the gorgeous Ballerina dubbed as 'Miss Torso', and a lonely middle aged women appropriately named 'Miss Lonely Heart'. Burr plays a scowling, barrel-chested salesman who steps out several times late one night carrying very heavy luggage and returns with the same bags much lighter. When his bickering, bed-ridden wife is conspicuously absent the next morning, Stewarts analytical imagination goes into overdrive. At first, he calls his friend Detective Thomas J. Doyle to some initial investigations as to the whereabouts of Thorwarld's wife. After investigation, Doyle concludes that Burr is harmless. Stewart deduces something far more sinister. He enlists his girlfriend Lisa (Grace Kelly) to investigate some of the events that puts him and her in unexpected mortal danger.

The beauty about Rear Window is its inherent simplicity and the masterful way in which Hitchcock tells the story. The editing of the visual text and the way Hitchcock is using surrounding apartments and their inhabitants to add colour to the text, creates a good pace that always feels natural. Times during which nothing happens in the actual story line, are masterfully used to show us snippets of the people around, which help set the scene and develop the plot, often at times different characters becoming involved in the plot. Each of these 'snap-shoots' is intriguing and exciting to watch, offering a wide variety of interesting characters and events.

Help with essay on Camera Angles in Rear Window

Hitchcock's use of subjective camera angles and lighting, convey the base elements of the crime fiction genre mystery, suspicion, intrigue. In the case of 'Rear Window' the main source of mystery occurs in the process not of seeking out who committed the crime, but rather how the crime was committed and proving it. Hitchcock stays true to his reputation, and uses unusual but highly effective camera angles throughout the visual text. The use of panning across the courtyard, subjective camera views of Stewart binoculars and telescopic lens, allow responders, to see what his eyes are seeing, close ups as well as long range shoots heighten the element of suspense throughout the visual text. He establishes the basis of Stewarts character in a single camera pan -- across the cast on his broken leg, over a stack of magazine covers and a smashed camera (evidence of the accident that landed him in a cast), and up to a wall of framed, action-packed pictures divulging his intrepid photojournalism career. The use of lighting and colour is also successful in establishing different scenes and atmosphere, for example Burr's face cast in half shadow and the entire room pitch black, when Thorwarld enters Stewart room, intensifies suspense, tension and a sense of dread from responders.

Hitchcock's 'Rear Window', is a masterpiece filled with suspense and excitement, the visual text is a superb example of how to make a film on one set and still make the viewer feel free of claustrophobia and completely terrified and engrossed as the take a journey on the process of investigation, in proving the existence of a crime.

Abortions are very controversial in the world today because of many people's beliefs on fetuses rights to life. Two philosophers in particular argue on the subject regarding abortions morality. Warren believes abortions are permissible in most cases on grounds that a fetus is not a person because it fails each category of what constitutes a person. On the other hand, Noonan's main argument is that since it is wrong to kill innocent human beings and fetuses are innocent human beings then it is wrong to kill fetuses. Noonan's argument is completely faulty in assuming that fetuses are innocent human beings when in fact this is the moral issue at hand.

Noonan first wants to define who is human. He states that at the moment of conception a fetus becomes a human being with a full right to life born to two human parents. He argues that at conception there is a sharp increase in the probability of a fetus becoming a person. The reasoning is there is roughly contains 00 million sperm in one ejaculation. The odds of a sperm coming in contact with a female ovum are therefore 1 in 00 million. But let's say that the egg becomes fertilized, then the chances of a new being developing jumps to a 4 out of 5 probability. This is why Noonan makes the claim that at conception a fetus becomes a human being because the chances of it forming into a human increases sharply. To illustrate his argument, Noonan presents an example of a man hiding behind a bush and someone shooting at the bush. If there were a 1 in 00 million chance that the movement hiding behind the bushes was really a person, then for the most part people would not hold you accountable for shooting the man. But, if the chance there is a man behind the bush is 4 out of 5, people would be more likely to blame you for shooting the man. This comparison Noonan makes is completely unrelated. We are looking at someone currently hiding in a bush versus someone who will become a person in nine months. No person is going to buy this analogy if they do not believe a fetus is a person in the first place. The second argument Noonan presents says that a fetus at conception receives a certain genetic code unique to humans and since a being with a human genetic code is human then a fetus is a human at conception. Noonan fails to recognize that certain individuals do not possess the same genetic code as others. For example, a person with Down syndrome carries an extra copy of chromosome 1 so they do not possess the exact genetic code particular to humans. Does this mean that they are not human? Of course not, but Noonan forgets that some people have different genetic codes than others due to mutations at birth. Therefore, this argument is infallible because it does not acknowledge genetic differences in people.

Now we shall move on to how Noonan defines the term human. He does not distinguish which sense, moral or genetic, he is speaking of in his argument that it is wrong to kill innocent human beings and fetuses are innocent human beings then it is wrong to kill fetuses. If human being is used in the same sense then one of the two premises is question begging. Noonan assumes what he claims to be proving in one of his premises. On the other hand, if he uses different senses then the conclusion does not follow. The first part, "it is wrong to kill an innocent human being," is a moral truth if a human being is used to mean a "full fledged member of the moral community." (Warren) But the genetic sense is in which any member of the species Homo sapiens is a human being. Let us assume that a human being is defined in the moral sense. Noonan only gives genetic evidence to define a fetus as a human therefore the conclusion does not follow.

Custom Essays on Abortion

As Warren points out, Noonan needs to show that fetuses are human beings morally with full and equal rights in order to support his traditional antiabortion argument. Both Warren and I define a human as a fully rational being with a full right to life. Noonan tries to prove that fetuses have experiences at eight weeks because they respond to touch. The problem with this argument is that a fetus is not a rational awake being.

Antonia and Lena Compare/Contrast

At the time of My Antonia, the Nebraska prairie was filling up with immigrants looking for a new beginning. Their old life across the ocean was not what they'd hoped, and in coming to America they tried to do as well as they possibly could with their second chance. Antonia Shimerda, a Bohemian, and Lena Linguard, a Norwegian, were both children at the beginning of the book, and although they spent a good deal of their adolescence in the same area, their lives and personalities were very different.

Antonia was definitely a hard worker during her childhood. After her father took his own life she had to step up and do farm work. Working like a grown man could not have been easy for a teenage girl with no experience whatsoever. Later in her life, as her first marriage fell apart, Antonia once again had to step up and do difficult tasks that were usually done by men. Even after becoming a mother of many children in her second marriage, Antonia still did many hard outdoor jobs while raising a large family as well.

Lena also did do a lot of hard work throughout her life. She did do some work in the fields, but the majority of her work was done designing and making clothes. She took a job with Mrs. Thomas in Black Hawk she thought that there was always too much trouble happening at the farm. When she was working in the town Jim went to college in she was designing as well. In fact, throughout the rest of the book she continued to design and sell in San Francisco.

Antonia always managed to survive in the times that there was not a man in her life, but she seemed to want one there anyway. Even though she was never romantically involved with Jim Burden, she always seems to like it when he was near. The way she was treated in her first marriage combined with Wick Cutter's attempted adultery with her could have soured her opinion of men enough to remain a single woman for the rest of her life. She still wanted and maybe needed someone to be with and eventually ended up in a marriage where the man seemed to treat her fairly well.

Lena never wanted to be married at all. She did spend a good deal of time with Jim as a young adult, but she had no romantic interest in him. She simply enjoyed having another person around in Lincoln that she could see plays with and talk with. From the time she took the job as a dressmaker, she always told everyone that she would not get married. She thought that there was no way she could avoid having a husband and kids who would always get in her way and take her time away from work. At the end of the story she was still living single and making a good living.

Jim had many feelings about Antonia over the length of the book. Early on they were simply close friends who spent their recreation time together. As they got older, they seemed to be the only thing that could remind the other of their youth. They both always enjoyed being able to reminisce about the good times in their lives with each other, no matter what was currently going on. Jim's effect on Antonia was always strong as well. She even told stories to her children many times even though it had been twenty years since she had last saw him.

Lena's relationship with Jim was not as strong, but still they had both had an effect on each other. They did not spend all that much time together as children. Most of their interaction was while they were both in Lincoln. They enjoyed going to plays together, and seemed to remind each other of the good things about the present. Jim's effect on Lena did not seem to be as significant over time, and despite Jim's attempts, they never became involved.

The differences between these two girls strongly outweigh the similarities. For whatever reason, whether it was their birthplace or anything else, the place where they grew up didn't have much of an effect on their personalities, or where they ended up in life.

At age 16, the relationship between my family and I progressed profoundly. Before then, there was hardly any communication, let alone a relationship. How does a nurturing relationship occur between parent and child?

In Amy Tan's novel, The Joy Luck Club she explores the relationships of four mothers and daughters. In the relationship between Ying-ying St Clair and her daughter Lena, the mother tries to teach her daughter the value of self worth. Tan tells us the story of Ying Ying's earlier abusive marriage in China in order to connect her past experiences with Lena's.

When Ying-ying was sixteen she attended her aunts wedding and met a guy who soon became her future husband. At that precise point in time he was drunk, and in his state of mind he attracted Ying-ying by plunging a knife into a watermelon. I think the raw act was evocative of taking a girls virginity. When the man wooed her with words of love and flattery it wasn't long before young Ying-ying fell in love with him. Shortly afterwards, Ying-ying married him. She was miserable and her marriage was a disaster. She soon found out that the man of her dreams was that of her nightmare also. When she became pregnant, her husband left her for another woman. Ying-ying was devastated. She felt she had no choice but to have an abortion. But the abandonment by her husband, followed by the abortion, however left Ying-ying with deep emotionally scars. As a result of this, she moved to Shanghai to live with her cousins and spent ten years being poor. She then left her cousins, moved to the city, and got a job, trying to erase her past.

However, while she was in Shanghai, she met an American man by the name of Clifford St. Clair. He dated her for a profound number of years, but Ying-ying would not marry him. Then, she heard that her first husband was dead, she said yes to Clifford's proposal and moved to America with him. Soon after, she gave birth to Lena. .

When Ying-ying visited Lena and Harold in their home, she judged it to be overpriced and poorly built. Although one would of loved to acquire Lena's modern and comfortable life-style, she failed to make a favorable impact on Ying-ying. Although she was put into a fashionable guest bedroom, Ying-ying was upset because the room was small; the Chinese custom was to give the guest the best room in the house. She also believed that the house was so poorly constructed that it was going to fall down.

During her visit, Ying-ying sees quite clearly that her daughter was unhappy in her marriage. She also realized that Harold is too busy and self-centered to notice Lena's misery. Ying-ying knew that her daughter was suffering a fate that she suffered many years prior. Ying-ying knew that if she did not do something about Lena's miserable marriage, she would of been scared. She did not want Lena to have the same kind of scars she had. Ying-ying admits to the reader that she was a rebellious girl from a rich family. She compared her youthful self to a tigressfull of fire and heat; she was "waiting between the trees" to pounce on something she liked. This time she wanted to pounce on the opportunity to provoke some positive action into her daughter. She could not bear to see her daughter living in such despair.

Lena could always see that her mom was depressed, dead even though alive (in a matter of speaking). Similarly, Lena too was faced with trials and tribulations in her marriage. Not only was she not receiving any respect from her husband but no love from him as well. Her mother acknowledged the apparent problem and tells her daughter to leave him and never come back if she didn't get what she wanted from him. Later on, she did leave and found the happiness she was seeking. With her mothers guidance Lena found a way to cut her spirit loose as her mother once did for her own.

In conclusion, I have discussed the relationship between Ying-ying and her daughter Lena. Both in which endured a great deal of turmoil in their marriages and overcame the suffering during their journey of self-discovery to become stronger women towards the end.

Picking Up The Pieces A lab on Fiber Analysis

Objective To collect fiber evidence, then analyze it to identify its source.

Procedure

1.Collect a red fiber from the "victim" by carefully lifting the fiber with a pair of forceps. Do not touch the fiber with your hands. Place fiber on a piece of white paper, then fold the paper in half twice.

Custom Essays on Fiber Analysis

.Carry the fiber to your lab station. Prepare a wet-mount slide of the fiber by placing it on the slide, adding a drop of water, and covering the fiber and water with a cover slip.

.Examine the fiber under low, medium, and high magnification of your microscope. Sketch what you see. Note any pits or striations on the fiber.

4.Compare this fiber to known samples of wool, rayon, silk, and cotton. Sketch each of these samples at the magnification that gives you the best view and record these sketches here.

5.Light your candle and compare the burning characteristics of the unknown fiber to the known samples. Record your observations on the Data Table.

a.Holding the fiber in forceps, bring it close to, but not touching, a flame. Describe the fiber's behavior as it approaches a flame does it begin to melt, ignite, curl?

b.Holding the fiber in forceps, touch the fiber to a flame. Does it ignite quickly or slowly? Does it sputter, drip, or melt?

c.Remove the fiber from the flame and describe how it behaves. Does it extinguish. Continue to burn, or continue to glow?

d.Note any odor associated with the fiber in the flame. Does it smell like vinegar or hair?

e.What kind of residue is left after the fiber is removed from the flame? Does the fiber leave a white, fluffy ash, a hard bead, or a melted blob?

Data Analysis

Through careful examination of the crime-scene fibers, we have discovered the material typing. During the microscope examining we found that the fibers where very loose, and stringy. During the burning test, we discovered that the material melted approaching the flame, and burnt and melted at the same time. It also drips with a plastic look to it, and smells like burning plastic. The residue left was a stringy melt. On the known fabrics we concluded that wool and cotton are very much the same. Both had stray fibers off of the main fiber. The rayon had very thick continuous weave. The silk had a rather "spun" look to it, and last but not least the polyester was stringy and loose. During the burn test we discovered that wool was very slow to ignite as well as silk, rayon and cotton were quick to ignite, and polyester melted then ignited. Also wool and silk smelt like burning hair, cotton, and rayon smelt like burning leaves, and polyester smelt like burning plastic. The residue left by all of them was wool had a big blob that melted together, rayon had a slight ash left, silk had a hard beady ash crust, polyester had a stringy melt, and cotton left ash crumbles.

Conclusion

In conclusion we have determined that Casey is the murderer. Through the evidence, and data analysis we conclude this in many ways. The fibers found on the victim's body were that of polyester. During the burn test both fibers found on the victim and the known fiber, polyester, demonstrated similar characteristics. Among these are, they both melted when approaching the fire, smelt like burning plastic, and the residue left was a stringy melt. Through the microscope tests we determined that the characteristics of the polyester and the fiber found on the victims body were similar.

Both had thin loose fibers and were both reddish-pink.

How is it useful

Fiber analysis is important in many different ways. One way it is important is if a crime was committed and stray fibers were left on the victim, a forensic scientist can study those fibers, link them to a person, place, or thing and help solve a crime, by placing suspects in attention. I learned during this lab that it is very important to pay close attention to the little details. In identifying a fiber it is very important to pay attention, because many fibers look the same to the naked eye, but with further examination they are much different.

Compare the way in which Robert Browning presents unusual characters in unusual situations with close reference to the language used. Which characters do you find most memorable?

Robert Browning lived between (181-188). He died at the age of 77. Robert Browning was happily married after a long struggle. Elizabeth Browning came from a very over protective family her father was very patriarchal. Elizabeth managed to get away in her 40's where she married Robert. Elizabeth Browning at the time was a famous poet who wrote a sonnet called 'Remember me when I have gone'. Which led her to her fame.

Victorian times was hard for women, they had to reserve themselves and they never flaunted themselves towards other men. They were expected to always look good. They wore their corsets so tight that it squashed their internal organs. It also was also seen as a sexual act to eat fruit in public they went in hiding to eat it. Some woman even got ribs removed so they can get a better figure. Most of the 0th centaury woman married when they were very young. Rich fathers often married their daughters of very young to rich elder men.

In the poem Porphyria's lover Browning sets the scene as personified weather, it is as if the weather has a personality, 'the rain set early into the night, the sullen wind was soon awake'. He describes the weather as if something bad is going to happen. However when Porphyria comes in to the cottage she brings warmth love and happiness 'blazed up the cottage warm'. It's as if Porphyria's lover is the cottage and all of the troubles are outside of the cottage. In the poem 'My last duchess' is set in the time of the renaissance 14th-16th century where it was fashionable to have a painting of yourself. Robert Browning in the poem describes a large mansion; it was a massive rich stately home. This shows that someone very rich and powerful lives in this mansion.

In the poem Porphyria comes into the cottage, her lover knows that she has been with someone else. …..'When glided in Porphyria straight'. /

This shows that Porphyria has no shame. 'She shut the cold out and the storm, and kneeled and made the cheerless grate'./

This shows that all her movements are pleasant. 'Withdrew her dripping clock and shawl, and laid her solid gloves by'./

There is some sexual promiscuity going on here.
